- Welcome everyone!
Today is all about note taking in college, since I have been asked by others before how I take my notes. I hope that by making this video, you are able to learn some great note taking techniques that you can use in your classes to be successful. Anything I discuss, you can always tailor it and make it your own. I do handwrite most of my notes, but if I am in a time crunch, I will create outlines on a word document.
If you would like to skip the information on how I gather my notes, I provided on a time stamp on where the formatting of my notes begins: 3:35
I hope to see you subscribe and feel free to comment any feedback/suggestions or any questions down below. Good luck on your nursing journey and see you in my next video 🌻🌻🌻

I hope you like the video and try out my note taking method. At this time I am not selling my notes, but look for updates on great study tools 🙂
Are you selling your notes at this time? I love the way you compact everything in one paper
I LOVE this! most people just show their notes, you actually took us with you and explained HOW you made them. Thank You 😊🙏🏼
Jeny Padilla Wow thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. This makes me happy that you benefited from the video! Please let me know if there is anything else you like to see on my channel 😊
As a fellow medical student, YOU ARE A LIFESAVER!! I'm 99% sure this video is the reason I passed this semester
Awwwwww this comment made my day ☺️ It makes me so happy to hear that my video is helping you through med school! Wishing you all the best and good luck in your program!
The 4 Questions is such a good tip! Definitely will think about that when taking notes and reviewing.
Hey Jademarissa! I’m so glad this video was helpful 😄 Thanks for watching! Let me know if you ever have video requests.
Yes I'm old school. Taking notes by writing and making highlights works best for me too. Not to
mention the use of Acronyms to remember almost everything lol. For that reason it's impossible to
share notes, unless you are silly and love laughing.
Thank you so much for this video. I was so lost on how to take notes off a PowerPoint
I love this.the majority of people take notes on their iPads or computer. I will do it this way
Yes.. so many people are paperless and for me in nursing school, I did both and I found handwriting was sooo much better for me 😄 I hope this method helps you!
Thank you for making this! Ive been trying hard to find a video that shows how to take good colorful notes. I start nursing school this month and I am trying to figure out the best way to take notes :)
Hey Ashley! Thank you for watching! Wow you start nursing school so soon. I would definitely try to find a note taking method that works for you :) I personally learn best by handwriting, but sometimes that can take up too much time, so I will make outlines on my computer too. Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with as you transition into nursing school!
OMG this was amazing and yes any video on classes you've taken would be great!!!
Thank you! Yes I will be slowly making videos on all classes I have taken. Is there one you would like to see first? I already have posted Patho and Foundations and a bit of Pharm and I recently just took mental health, med/surg, and older adult health too.
Yes please do show your study process ❤
i love hand writing notes!! it workks so well for me
Aleena Gogna Oh same! I know tons of people take notes on the computer but I feel like the information goes in one ear and out the other while I’m studying 😂😂
I love your notes! I have been doing something similar. It takes forever though is the only downside.
Autumn Allison I totally agree with you! The downside is it takes forever.. but I utilize the time that I am sitting down making my notes to really learn the information as I’m writing it all out. I know to some it is way to tedious, but hey.. this is how some people learn best! I’m glad to hear I’m not alone and you learn similar to the way I do ☺️ Are you also in nursing school?
@@KristenWaldorf I agree! When my classmates see my notes they always say they could never spend that long making notes. For me if my notes aren't neat then it's hard for me to study those later on. Yes I am in an accelerated RN program as well! I have 24 weeks left, so two more terms!
Autumn Allison You are so close!! And yes I agree. My notes need to be neat or else I can’t study from them 😅
Really detailed and informative video! I love how well you explained everything!
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed the content. Please let me know if there is anything specific you would like see next 😃
Thank you! These are great tips. Thanks for sharing your note taking
Dang, this is great! Thank you.
Just started first semester nursing 😳❤️ thanks for the tips!!
Yes of course! Good luck in your first semester of school 😊
I like this way a lot more than concept maps!
Simone Wade Hey Simone, I’m glad you like this method! Hopefully it is helpful to you while in school. I personally had found this organization is most helpful to me, but do what works best for you. Please feel free to leave suggestions if you have anything you would like to see 😊
What a great instructional notes video. I have learned alot from it. Thanks so much!!!😊😊
Maria Elena Jorge Thank you 😊
Great way to explain how you take your notes. Thank you!
Maria Perez Hi Maria! Yes I tried my best to be as detailed as possible and of course feel free to tailor anything to meet your needs. I hope my tips are helpful to you in the future 😁
Thank you! I wrote those 4 questions that your teacher suggested keeping in mind! hopefully, it will help me with med surg 2
Yes I hope they help you too! Those really helped me during my study sessions. Good luck in med surg 😊
Yesss, please make studying videos about all of the classes youve taken
Taya White Hey Taya! I am slowly recording study videos for each subject I have taken. I have a playlist on my channel called, “How I Study in Nursing School.” Feel free to check it out! I currently haven’t filmed a study video for Mental health, OB, Peds, or Community, but those are in the works right now. If you have a subject you would like to see soon on my channel, feel free to let me know and I can get the video up quickly for you 🙂 Good luck studying!
Awesome detailed information. Thank you so much, and you are so pretty :)
Awww thank you so much for your lovely comment 😄 Good luck in your journey!
How do you keep the papers organized since they’re not in a notebook?
Hey Sara 😃 I use clear sheets to keep them covered and clean and then organize them in a binder. I personally don’t like spiral notebooks because you run out of room and then can’t keep notes together unless your glueing pages in.
@@KristenWaldorf I looove this! Thank you ☺️ I am entering into nursing school in the fall and I am a straight A student but I know I’ll need to step up my note taking game to actually retain all the info for the NCLEX at the end of it. My cramming and forgetting all the info after the class is over method won’t fly haha
Definitely going to try this out!
What if my handwriting is horrible and need lines to write straight lol? I love your idea and aesthetic but I can see myself writing big sloppy and all over the page😅
Interesting and informative.
Thanks for sharing.
simegn sendro Of course, thank you! Please let me know if you there is something you would like to see on my channel.
Okay your notes are hella beautiful lol
Hi thanks for this amazing video.
I have a question, the notes you take from your textbook and lecture, then adding them to your powerpoint, are those the notes you put on paper?
Thank you. I'm paper and pencil learner.
Hey Nichole, of course! I hope this video is helpful 😄
Do you have any lectures you can share so we could get a feel?
Hey Jay! Unfortunately I do not. All my classes are live and the ones that are recorded, my school uses a program that doesn't allow downloading or sharing of the lectures due to copyright.. What you can do is look up Registered Nurse RN or Khan Academy on a topic that interests you to see what to expect when you are in nursing school! Those UA-cam videos are great study resources for school and are pretty much in line with what I had to know for classes. I hope this helps 🙂
@@KristenWaldorf Thank you so much. 👍
how long did one study session take? and did you read the text book word for word or just map out the objectives?
Hey Bridget! So normally I studied anywhere from 2-4 hours after class with one longer session on my day off from school. I took one day off as well for myself. I did not read the textbook word for word.. I do not learn that way. What worked best for me was my study books (Saunders, ATI) and watching youtube videos or relistening to my professors lectures. Some students did read the book and found it helpful though. When it came to note taking, I followed my professors powerpoints as an outline and that was very helpful to guide me to what I really needed to know. I hope this helps 😃
Hi Kristen, brilliant video! Can I ask I’m in the UK and the professors only upload the PowerPoint after the lecture,I find I’m writing out the slides what would you suggest I do? Thanks x
Amanda Sutton Hey Amanda, thank you so much for watching! Hmmm, that can definitely feel discouraging. Personally what I would do is skim through the book before class so you have a better understanding of what is being taught. Are you able to record your lectures? If so I would personally just listen during lectures and not write too much. Once the powerpoints are uploaded you can then go back and relisten to lecture and add in any notes you feel necessary. If you can’t record, I would take notes BUT ONLY what is NOT on the slides. You could number your notes to correspond with the slides, so you can go back and fill in your notes once the slides are posted. I hope this all make sense and please ask if you have any questions! 🙂
This is the same in Ireland and it’s not useful at all. I saw a UA-cam video from another UA-camr from the US and in her nursing school they got their entire semester schedule including exams and quiz dates at the very start of the year, including notes more than a week before the class. How perfect is that?! Getting notes after class is the worst. It would be ideal to be able to read the notes before class then just listen to the lecturer in class and make notes on them.
Great job. Hope you do study videos
Thanks Kevin! I do have plenty of study videos on my channel already if you get the chance to check them out. Thanks for watching 🙂
How do you have time to even write notes? Our exams are every week back to back, I have to make my notes in between semester breaks. It sucks because right now we are in Christmas break, yet I'm currently working on my notes for next semester.
Josie Canales Hey Josie! I think each nursing program is a little different. I do admit my summer semester was me solely doing nursing school, but during the spring and summer semesters, I actually had a ton of down time. I also do not have a job in the program, so that gives me more time to focus on school. But I do agree.. when I do write my notes, it does take me a while to get through a slide set. You seem like you are very dedicated and are going to be a great nurse 😀 Don’t forget to take some time for yourself this vacation. You’ve earned it!!!
Can you do one where your teachers aren't teaching anymore and just tell you to read the textbook but they give you 40+ pages to read each day :):
Oh man.... I have had classes like this in the past... In this case really focus on the powerpoints and use the book to supplement and watch videos if you are visual learner! I have always been told the most important sentences in the book are the first and last of each paragraph and then focus on any graphs and images. For classes like this I would say do practice questions too! This will really help you zone in on what you need to know.
Yes please! It’s hell when you are new to the topic and the professor is too lazy to actually put effort into teaching and instead just directs you to the book or Google 😒
I’m sorry to hear you had a professor like that.. Is there anyway you could go to a higher individual in your program and discuss your concerns? I would recommend turning to RegisteredNurseRN on youtube and she normally does a great job telling you what you need to know in all of her videos. She has a huge amount of content available to students too. I apologize for the late response, I just happen to see the comment and realized I never answered this!
Nice video! I wish my handwriting was that neat
Melissa Anne Thank you ☺️ It does take me a while to make sure my notes are legible, you should see my handwriting when I’m quickly writing things down 😂 Just a little practice and patience is all you need!
How do you maintain writing straight?
Hey Dinneka! For me, I kept looking back at my paper every once in a while to make sure I wasn’t writing crooked. Sometimes I did, but I would use also use a ruler to help guide me too when this happened. It took some practice back when I was younger.
My school goes over the power points quickly and don’t hand them out at all
They tell us to read but my professor does tell us what key point to high light in the book
Hey Tanay! I have heard some schools aren’t as resourceful when it comes to handing out notes. I would definitely make sure to create your own notes on the points your professor highlights in lecture. Sometimes the book can be helpful, it’s just a ton of information. Try to break it up into smaller more manageable chunks and then continuously find practice questions to work on. That will help you narrow down the most important information! Hope that is helpful 😊
wish my professor would actually teach and give insides on what could be on the test !! :(
I definitely had professors who were like this. I would highly suggest to find some practice questions within the sections you are learning, as practice questions tend to highlight the important information you will be tested on! Keep pushing through and I'm sure you will do great 🙂
Damn you write great!
Janet Hannah Thank you! I try to make it legible because my handwriting can get so sloppy 😂
How long does this take you to do
Hi, it honestly depends on how lengthy the topic is. Some could take as quick as 20 minutes, some could take a couple hours. But I would also be reviewing as I was making my notes, so for me this was considered part of my studying!
How do you write so straight!
Makara’s Life Hey Makara! I’ve had years of practice taking notes on plain paper 😅 but if you find a thin ruler that will help too!
Wow thanks so much for the ideas! I am a first-semester nursing student at a local community college ADN PROGRAM. Thanks for sharing and teaching us newbie students! I love your channel!
I’m so glad to hear you are enjoying my channel! And of course, I truly enjoy mentoring and help other students and giving advice! How is your ADN program going so far?
Do U Sell Your Notes?
Hi Bei Bei02, at this time I do not. I have been trying to see how copyright my notes, so maybe in the future I will sell them!
Loved this video! Thank you for sharing it's so informative! I just made a new nursing video on my channel too :)
Why thank you! and YESS are you in nursing school too??
Are you selling your notes??
Hey Kenya thank you for watching! At this time I am not selling my notes. There a couple reasons like copyright and my notes are specific to my program. I am thinking of doing cheat sheets so feel free to check back for updates. 😄
Good ideas but slow down, you talk really fast
Hey Avis! There is a feature to slow down the video if you need it. Good luck 😀
