HomePod Mini fix so Siri can play BBC radio stations on request

- At this time HomePods cannot play BBC radio stations when requested from Siri. I am sure a fix is coming sometime in an iOS update. Until then there is this workaround using BBC Sounds App and the Apple Shortcuts App, both on the iPhone. My videos are quick and simple so pause and replay to go at your pace.
Anyone not seeing BBC Sounds in Shortcut Apps list:- settings, bbc sounds, Siri &Search, scroll to bottom and enable “Use with Ask Siri”
Just done that and works a treat!!
Thank you 🙏
Not working in Feb 2022 with iOS 15.3 on an iPhone. Can't see BBC Sounds in the Apps list despite enabling "Use with Ask Siri"
Well I tried on my iPad and got it to work. I then went back to my iPhone and it worked there!!! I think I may have not been on the live feed when I first tried on my phone but another program.
Done as you suggest and Use with Ask Siri was on but still cant use voice command for siri on homepod. Will keep trying 🙏
This is brilliant thank you. Been looking for a work around for ages now. FYI you don’t have to specify where to play it. Whichever Homepod you ask to play it on will play it there. I’ve just tried it and works perfectly.
BBC Radio 6 has been working from tunein for me for months and then disappeared suddenly in the last 2 weeks on HP2. This is a great video. I’ve also contacted the BBC as to why it’s disappeared. It’s gone from GNH too.
Brilliant! Thank you. Was disappointed when I got my HomePod because I hadn't realised I couldn't play my BBC stations on it. Now I can. Hope you do more videos like this on other Apple related work-rounds.
Brilliant! Such an easy workaround. Thank you!
Great job - finally a fix for HomePod to play BBC Radio stations by voice command
I can't seem to get this to work if I call the Shortcut 'Play BBC Radio 1', either on my phone or my HomePod. However, if I change it to 'Start BBC Radio 1' it works fine! Great idea in the vid!
Thanks for mentioning, wasn’t working for me either but now it does my renaming the shortcut word from ‘Play’ to ‘Start’! Finally I can get this to play, it seems Apple keep trying to block control of the bbc sounds app which is so annoying.
Thank you! I just did this and it works perfectly!
Thank you so much for this!!
Than you very helpful video!
Thank you, good shortcut fix until BBC and Apple get their act together!
A really well done presentation however, my iPhone is not showing like for like display as in your video. I am on IOS 15.31
I guess Apple made some changes?
Cheers, was the last thing holding me back from getting one.
It defo works. Cheers
Brilliant 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 🤩
This is potentially an answer to a problem I have had for ages. But unfortunately I can’t get Apple Shortcuts to include BBC Sounds in its list of available Apps, in either my iPhone or iPad. I have gone into both BBC Sounds and Shortcuts in settings and changed the setting for ‘Use with Ask Siri’. I have turned the device off and on, and tried a few times, but the BBC Sounds App still doesn’t appear. Any ideas? Thanks.
An update - I think I may have answered this problem myself! Not sure how, but I think it was by running the BBC Sounds App and playing the desired Radio Station whilst the Shortcuts App was open. A bit like the step described in the video to add a Station, but before you get to that stage.
I have fought my way through some Shortcuts interface changes and I think I have set it up correctly, changing the Playback Destination to my HomePod Mini. But, when I try it, I get ‘The app hasn’t added support for that with Siri’. Is there anything to get this working with 16.2?
Great video, however at the end, you go to rename your pod to BBC 3 and say next but I can find what it is you have choose to rename it. Can you please help. Thanks
Anyone know if this shortcut runs on HomePod mini or iPhone? In other words once set up does iPhone still need to be in same room/home or Weill it work if I leave the house? Tks
does this still work?
I added a shortcut for BBC Radio Scotland, but when saying "Hey Siri Play BBC Radio Scotland" it actually plays a podcast of some sort not live radio. it's not an issue with the shortcut though as when pressing the shortcut button it does play live radio correctly.
Is there a work around to get homePod mini to play from my music library from a voice command?
I can’t see BBC sounds in shortcuts - I have all the latest updates and I’m signed into the bbc but nothing, any ideas?
Thanks for a great explanation. I have done everything you have done (I think) but Siri will still not connect directly to ‘BBC Radio 2’. I have to ask Siri to go into BBC Sounds and then ask for BBC Radio 2, please help! Thank you 😊👍
Fantastic, can the same be done to get Ken Bruce on GHR?
Does this work everyone in the house? And does the person that created the shortcut have to be home for it to work?
Thanks sounds great but I have just tried to set this up in shortcuts and the add commands after the first + are different - query due to due iPhone software - and I can’t see how to add the “where to play”. Could you update your video using IOS 15? Cheers Mark
I just did this. Look for the “+” in the shortcuts, then search for “playback” and you should be able to feel your way around there
Once set up, I’m assuming this will not work if your iPhone is not in the house?
I wouldn’t call this a fix, it is a workaround that wasn’t really reliable and you have to create different shortcuts with different commands if you have multiple homepods in your home. I switched back to Google Homes for now, just hope one day this gets solved by whoever is responsible for the mess.
I did use this fore som time but after last iOS update it dissapaird and i don't get it back?
So there is no possibility to play any radio station from example TuneIn? I can do it with no problem on my Google Nest mini. Just need to ask to play any radio station…
Can no longer find BBC Sounds app in the Shortcuts list. So fed up with this 😢
July 2022 directions: Go to apps listing directly (not through categories) to be able to select radio stations from BBC Sounds.
Really useful but unfortunately on my iphone I couldn’t see the stage where you had to select media so couldn’t get it working. Any suggestions gratefully received please.
Got the same issue !!
Hi.
What I found was that, now in iOS 17.1.2, I just told Siri to
“Play on ”
Where the things in the are the shortcut name, and then the name of the speakers I want it to go to.
Works a treat. Good luck.
BBC Sounds doesn't appear in my App list, despite it being installed. Any ideas?
Same here. Guessing the Apple/BBC dispute got hold of this fix and stopped it! 🤷♂️
same
I got a fix too - Nest Audio.
@@craigatkinsonstudio stopped working on nest for me now :(
I’ve done everything up to the last stage, I haven’t got or can’t find a “Media” app on my iPhone or iPad so I can’t send the link to my HomePod mini. There doesn’t seem to be an app available in the apple App Store. Has anyone got any suggestions please.?
Since this video there has been an update, you need to search for ‘playback’ in the same section you’d choose the other shortcuts and you’ll see it in there
Can Siri play RTÉ radio 1
I can't see media on my iphone 12 running ios 16.2. I've added the short cut for bbc radio stations, but can't tell it to play on the homepod. Can anyone help please
I have fought my way through some Shortcuts interface changes and I think I have set it up correctly, changing the Playback Destination to my HomePod Mini. But, when I try it, I get ‘The app hasn’t added support for that with Siri’. Is there anything to get this working with 16.2? I think perhaps it has been nobbled again?
Only plays podcasts unless I am doing something wrong
