Bonsai Bush is stunning, I am really attracted to the tiered canopy that happened here. I've noticed a "weaker" growth with all of my plants in the grow tent, even house plants that prefer warm, moist environments. Even the ones that aren't super woody, the leaves just don't feel right. So I rotate them out each day so everyone gets a chance to dry a bit at least. Not sure if that's the correct approach, I'll know in a few weeks 😅 I'm expecting a few casualties this winter but that's why we propagate. Plenty of extras!
Yeah it's kind of a balance. I'm thinking I'm going to try putting a small fan in there to blow the air around a bit. Not sure of that will make a difference or not? I'll post results when I do!
There is a potter friend of mine who has a style of making that the untrained eye might look as if a child had made it. He's actually a master of the Craft, and I dare say is kind of an international rock star within his field. He describes some work as I imagine you might descrìbe this tree. "It ain't pretty.... but it sure is beautiful!" I enjoyed this very much! Thank you, and all the best to Luna!😅
it's coming along great, i like how it's future shapes/contours are coming along...... i kinda wish i would have bound my ficus bush/trees i inherited from my mom's back porch a few years ago, it's going to be awhile til the pair i saved grows together naturally.....i've been using light weights ( just various lengths twisted copper wire, hooked over selected limbs) to give my longer branches some droop without doing bark damage, seems to set shape in a couple weeks time...........been enjoying your content, many props
she estimated 7-8 years, it had also been a group of around ten trees, all a lanky 6ft tall.....i got all excited and crudely chopped a lot (too much?) 4 years ago, but it's looking okay these days, needs a repot/root trim, just apprehensive and prolly lazy, lol.... @@BonsaiBoise
Thank Kennet! I think you're right, I've just never tried a graft before so I'm not sure what to expect. I might experiment on one first and see how it goes
Good morning Mike got my ☕️ ready to watch. I remember watching the video where you got this in my original search on how to propagate ficus. I will be doing some cuttings soon again of my Benjamina Ficus, just trying to figure out a good rooting medium to use, I may use sand I always have amazing success in sand, soil, not so much lol. Those fused pictures you showed look pretty neat! Any updates on those air layers you did earlier in the year? When that are all fused together down the road it will be well worth the wait. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your weekend!
So the air layer one was on the bush to bonsai 1.0, but I really should do an update to that! It's been quite a while now and I don't think I've ever done a follow up.
Hi Mike, the tree looks good, but I wonder why you don't use the grafting method? It's very easy and my Benjamina respond very well to this method. Good luck and greetings from the Czech Republic.
Thank you! To be honest, Ive never really done a graft. I've seen a few methods. One where you drill a hole and thread a branch through it. Another where you make a slanted cut and then put a cutting in. And another where you just place the roots of a cutting around where you want it to grow and then wrap it up. if I were to try that here, maybe the slanted cut method?
@@BonsaiBoise I am using method where you just make slanted cut and then put a cutting in. I then seal the cut with paste and wrap with some foil to hold everything together and make the connection. Make sure you have a clean and sharp knife before cutting into the trunk! Kind regards, Petr.
I like the potential of how much fun I'll have over the years working and watching the tree transform into something more. That's the best potential
Agree 100%!

Love the analogy! I might rename this tree to be my "Ugly Duckling" that will someday be a swan. 🦢
Nice long term project Mike. It’s developing very well. Thanks, keep growing
Thank you! I give it 5ish years before it starts to look semi-respectable.
What a great long term project, looking good
Thank you!

Thanks I appreciate that! How old is the one you inherited from your mom?

@@stevenjohann5435 Oh nice! I love those inherited plants. So raw and full of potential.
Interesting. Good luck.
Thanks!
Hi Mike
Maybe you could graft some branches with exposed cambium. It´s more work, but the grafts only take weeks.

@@BonsaiBoise didn’t you do an air layer on a maple at a friends? Something like that?
