Ficus Benjamin - Office Bonsai - Updates & Air Layers

- I did yet another air layer of a previous air layer on my ficus benjamina office bonsai. So my original office bonsai is now 3 separate bonsai's. In this video i do a quick recap of how we got here and then show the progress from about May 2024 to December 2024.
One of the things I appreciate with your videos is that you got the courage to show us "mistakes/bloopers" which kinda conveys more info to beginners and anyone who hasn't tried things yet. Cheers from a not so white part of Sweden (and I don't mind but my grandchildren want the snow lol)

I think you made the right cut at 15:48. I hope your tent is staying cozy warm and humid this winter season. my heat changed from gas to electric and the grow tent humidity had been impacted, though other variables could be at play.
Main tree: When you transitioned to this tree I could immediately see your style coming through. I don't know how to explain but it is interesting to watch a young bonsai artist, like myself, forming his own style. Your vision is coming together! Hope you, your lady and your doggo are doing well ❤
I appreciate that! I've never really considered if I have a "Style". (It's hard for me to self evaluate). So I'm really happy to hear you say that. For your growtent, someone told me once that if you put one of those hand warmers things in there once or twice a week,, it makes a significant difference. I've yet to try it so I can't say for sure. Wow...That's brave, one little root...So many contradicting opinions, they all seem to work one way or another...'More is lost by indecision than wrong decisions...', seems to be a way to move forward with a least a little confidence...Look at you man, another air layer from the same parent plant...I have a beautiful 3' Amur maple that I plan to air layer the top 18" off early next Summer...Well done brother...Thanks for sharing...
Thank you! Yeah the 1 root was risky, and it looked pretty bad there for a bit, but I lucked out. Good luck on the Amur maple! I've never tried air layering an Amur before
Nice work. I wonder if these finished trees would look more balanced with a tilt. Vertical trunks with most of the branches leaning to one general direction look a little unbalanced.

The middle airlayer, i think the next time you repot it, you should tilt the lower part of the trunk and make the new leader more vertical. It makes the trunk look like it has more movement to me.
Thanks! That's a good idea. I was kicking around repositioning the trunk slightly slanted to make the leader slightly more vertical. But, I like your idea too so I'll kick that around!
@BonsaiBoise ya sounds like what im trying to say. I do it a lot so I could be byist. Lol
Have you tried wrapping the trunk with grafting tape before you apply wire ive had great results because I'm not afraid to twits the he'll out of it and break and snap sections the tape holds the back together
I haven't tried that but it sounds like a good idea. Lately I came across some plastic tubing for medical IV's, and I slip it over the wire. Fits pretty good. Time will tell if it's a good method.

I might have to try this specifically on another focus to see if that is truly what caused it.
Question from a beginner: hiw did you start doing bonsai? Did you start with a club? I think there is ine in your area (Boise Bonsai Society).
I started about 10 years ago when I moved to a house with a giant silver maple tree in the backyard. Little maples started popping up all over the place so I started putting them in pots. Then I started bending them with twisty ties just to see what would happen. After that, I was hooked!
