This was a monster hit back in (1984) for Foreigner. When Motown had their 50th anniversary special back in 1985. This was the song all the participants who performed in the special sang to end the show. It was one of the highest rated programs ever in television history. Awesome!
This song brings back a flood of memories. I remember driving home from work and this track came on the radio. I pulled into my car port and stayed in my car until the song ended. There was NO WAY that I could not hear the whole song. To this day I get chills hearing and now seeing this song. Thanks for reacting to it. Take care.
I have a similar story. I was actually walking to the bowling alley a couple blocks away listening to my walkman when this song debuted here on local radio. It stopped me in my tracks. I knew I was listening to a future classic on my first listen. Crazy how music brings back memories of specific times and dates.
@@carlgibbons5777 There are, of course, other things such as a specific smell that can bring back memories but music does it the best. I can hear a song and remember things that I had not thought about for over 50 years. Take care.
I remember this song so clearly, and the feelings it brings up for me never change. Lou Gramm's vocals are so perfect, and using the choir was a choice move. For me, it always feels like dreamy nighttime. The TV show "Miami Vice" featured so many current, well known songs, and this was one of them. It's forever entwined with that time and place.
I love this song, but it has a bittersweet history for the band. It's the song that split up the band. Mick Jones (guitar) and Lou Gramm (vocals) worked on it, but then Mick decided he was going to keep 100 percent of the song - not the normal way they work together. Those two wrote most of the catalog together. This hurt Lou enough that he stopped contributing the the writing, left after the next album, and the band was basically over at that point. There are still hard feelings today.
Lou Gramm is one of the best rock singers that ever existed. I had the pleasure of seeing him live with Foreigner (with opening act The Doobie Brothers) back in the mid 90s, and he was just as amazing and impressive live. What a concert that was, Foreigner and The Doobie Brothers on the same bill 😁😁
I saw that show in Columbus Ohio, great billing. Columbus Clippers double header and a Foreigner / Doobie Brothers concert to round out the night, AMAZING!
#1 in the UK and US in 1985, knocked Do They Know It's Christmas (UK) and Like A Virgin (US) out of those positions (Foreigner's biggest hit, 3 AM inspiration by a Higher Power? per Mick Jones) with the New Jersey Mass Choir, Jennifer Holliday and Thompson Twins Keyboardist Tom Bailey. The music video played on MTV during its Golden Age. Absolutely Beautiful, Meaningful, with the Strongest and Right Emotions! :)
Whew! I’ve heard it many times, but I got to me again. Especially with the video. Yes, when you hear it on the radio, you stay there through the whole song. The kind of song, where, if I’m parking the car and it comes on, I just sit there in the car listening to it until it’s over.
Lou grew up near where i live in western new york state, he is a true legend and no one could ever sing this song better. His voice tone is perfect. The choir was outstanding.
This is my favourite Foreigner song. And don`t you love videos that finish on a happy note. I thought Baby Gap was going to cry there for a moment but Momma Gap saved the day at the end with a smile. 😄 Great reaction ladies.
Saw them live when this album came out...performed with a full choir for this.....one of my sis-in-law's best friends was in the choir......great music to go see back in those days.....
The lyrics are also powerful. This song is so heartfelt and the choir gives it a gospel vibe. As someone who's been through so much turmoil in his life I find so much to identify with in this song. I'll be 49 next week. I'm so lonely and alone. Looking for love and not finding it leaves you tired and drained. I do hope it will come around someday. I so want to know what love is finally. I think I've earned it.
I grew up on this band. Love this sobg so much. I think a great contrast of a song to this song would be Twars For Fears woman in chains. It is another amazingly beautiful song!!
It's less about romantic love and more about love for each other. They narrowed that church that was undergoing renovation and invited the members to come down and sing. With the money Forigner pay it allowed the church to reopen way ahead of schedule
This song is timeless! Songs from that era will be around 100 years from now....and well beyond. Imo this era of music is the finest of all time!! Please keep the reviews coming from these great artists from this era! ❤ it and your content!!
Hey there ... Just wanted to say how much I loved this reaction ... AND ... to tell you where they got the name of the band. There were 6 original members in the group, 3 from the UK and 3 from America so someone figured that, no matter where in the world they were, at least half of them would always be foreigners. BTW, this IS one of my favorites songs too 😉🌹.
Such a great rabbit hole to dive down!! The only group I know that’s half American and half British! Lou Gramm’s voice is amazing!! Mick Jones’ guitar playing is awesome and so is his songwriting!! They have another great ballad called “I Don’t Want To Live Without You” which was written a couple years after this song. “Feels Like The First Time”, “Long Way From Home”, “Hot Blooded”, “Double Vision”, “Head Games”, “Juke Box Hero”, “Urgent”, “Waiting For A Girl Like You” are a couple other songs to rock out to! 🤟🤟🤟
Good suggestions. I’ve always preferred ‘I Don’t Want to Live Without You’, and it has a sweet video. I think the most famous example of a US/British group would be Fleetwood Mac (3 Brits / 2 Americans).
Foreigner had a very successful run of hit songs from the mid-70's to the mid-80's. "I Want To Know What Love Is" is one of their best power ballads and their only song that reached #1 on the pop charts. Foreigner is one of my favorite rock bands during that time-frame. Other Foreigner songs that highly recommend you try are "Waiting For A Girl Like You" , "Cold As Ice", "Double Vision", "Urgent", "Feels Like The First Time", "Hot Blooded" and "Juke Box Hero".
Lou Gramm is one of the greatest rock singers of all time, so incredibly soulful. And while Foreigner is certainly a rabbit hole worth discovering, I also think Lou's solo hit "Midnight Blue" is required listening.
Hi ladies can I just say you two ladies are so beautiful anyway I'm John from East London in England this song by foreigner is one of the great songs of the 1980s
I was a teenager in the 80s, and this song was huge in Australia so I remember it well. I find the chorus a bit sappy these days TBH but the verses and bridge are really lovely ☺
Do us 80's music lovers a favor. When you hear reactors or people attribute this song to Mariah Carey corrct them saying that she covered and who actually sings this rock ballad.
Kelly Hansen is the current lead singer of Foreigner, but to me, Lou Gramm will always be the voice of Foreigner, just like to me Peter Cetera will always be the voice of Chicago.
“Through the clouds I see love shine”…Lou has said in interviews that the song “could” be interpreted that he’s talking about Jesus Christ….but that sadly doesn’t “sell”
Excellent comments, M&D ! Can I make a suggestion (this from a guy in the UK). Could you checkout ABBA's 'The Day Before You Came' official video? This was their very last song before they broke up in 1982. I think it's probably their best one. Its whole concept is brilliant and the storytelling is superb. It also has a driving tango beat and the operatic backing vocals (by Frida) to Agnetha's main vocal are haunting. Go on, give it a go!!!!
This was a hit when i was an apprentice in the building trade. The scene were the black guy is carrying the metal strut(Purlin) used to be hilarious to us on site because they are extremely lite. You could actually carry about 12 if they weren't so bulky, you certainly wouldn`t carry less than 6. Everytime one of us lads were deemed not to be working hard enough the older guys would be shouting, oh no its that lazy Bugger from the Foreigner Video ! (but not the word bugger)
I love this music! ! The days of innocent are over it's because you discover to love someone. ❤ I know she love me ! But it didnt manifest in reality because someone will suffer if I persu it . Anyway I survived but it hunt me for good . Got me ! Human ?
Daughter is so pretty ! The natural look , with the long dark hair ! Sad to see all the tattoo's ! Imagine your mother at her age with her body all marked up ? Stop following the crowd , and just accept your natural beauty, and I like your facial emotional expressions ! True to dedications to women ! My first wife 1982. New wife 1985, Foreigner " Waiting for a girl like you " !
Hello ladies, love your reactions to the music. If you haven't already done it but could you please please do a reaction to Mike+ The Mechanics "The Living Years"

I always say " Music is like a Time Machine ‼️ it takes you back That Time ⏲ That Place ❣
For real, this song is one of the greatest of all time ever..very very super emotional

For me, it always feels like dreamy nighttime. The TV show "Miami Vice" featured so many current, well known songs, and this was one of them. It's forever entwined with that time and place.
I so wish I would have been old enough to appreciate it at that time....but boy I sure do now.....and will forever!♥️
1 Song Takes me Back in my time machine !
Lou Gramm - Midnight Blue
wow just saying the title of the song has got me taping & singing 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣
Cant go wrong with Foreigner. ❤️
I love this song, but it has a bittersweet history for the band. It's the song that split up the band. Freddy Mercury, Lou Gramm, Jimi Jamison, Steve Perry and Glenn Hughes are the best Rock Singers.
I saw that show in Columbus Ohio, great billing. Columbus Clippers double header and a Foreigner / Doobie Brothers concert to round out the night, AMAZING!
Gonna see them in Sept. Doing their final tour.
Great passionate song!!
Ah, I do remember this song. Beautiful. Another song like this is by REO Speedwagon, Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore.
Saw them LIVE in Puerto Rico back in the 80's. Awesome band, underrated.
Whew! I’ve heard it many times, but I got to me again. Especially with the video. Yes, when you hear it on the radio, you stay there through the whole song. The kind of song, where, if I’m parking the car and it comes on, I just sit there in the car listening to it until it’s over.
This is a special song. It came out shortly before I married the love of my life, and it takes me back to that time. Beautiful song.
Lou grew up near where i live in western new york state, he is a true legend and no one could ever sing this song better. His voice tone is perfect. The choir was outstanding.
#upstate !
1000 👍 the world needs this right now ❤
Great reaction. Have a wonderful day ladies!
Great song, great group and yes power ballad for sure.
This is my favourite Foreigner song. And don`t you love videos that finish on a happy note. I thought Baby Gap was going to cry there for a moment but Momma Gap saved the day at the end with a smile. 😄 Great reaction ladies.
The live version video of this song (audience clapping) is great.
I proposed my gf with this song this year in Switzerland.
Beautiful song! Foreigner has a few great power ballads.
I saw Foreigner do this song live on this album’s tour. They would always bring out a local choir to do this song with the band live. It was amazing.
Classic 🔥 bop. One of the best slow 80s ballads.
The visuals in this video is amazing. The video truly has images that fit the song and emotions.
I was a teenager finishing Basic Training and it takes me back to those days. All the friendships, the fun, the growing up.
Saw them in concert way back ...awesome
I love Foreigner
Saw them live when this album came out...performed with a full choir for this.....one of my sis-in-law's best friends was in the choir......great music to go see back in those days.....

This was my wedding song
Good shows tonight. Thinks
One of the best smoochy slow dances ever
Love this song, brings back good memories of college days, thank you for another great reaction.
The words of my heart along with I Wanna Be Loved Like That by Shenandoah.
Baby Gap's reaction at 5:49: oh, I know! One of my fave parts of the song right there when he reaches for that note.
I grew up on this band. Love this sobg so much. I think a great contrast of a song to this song would be Twars For Fears woman in chains. It is another amazingly beautiful song!!
A power ballad is a perfect term, couldn't agree more, especially with the vocals at the end!
It's less about romantic love and more about love for each other. They narrowed that church that was undergoing renovation and invited the members to come down and sing. With the money Forigner pay it allowed the church to reopen way ahead of schedule

Soooooo Good!!!!!
That was awesome ladies. Brought back old memories. I love watching your reactions!

Beautiful song by a great group, and hits my heart because I never knew what love is, and being in poor health now, means I never will
Such a beutiful song what a voice he has I think Mariah Carey did a cover of this but nothing beats the original

The ultimate power ballad.
Waiting for a girl like you is another the best one..
Lou graham had a great solo career as well after he left foreigner. You really need to check out some of those tunes as well.
This album is perfect.
This is so very awesome! His vocals are so good. Love your reactions.
Lou Gramm had one of the best lead vocals in the history of rock!
Lou had a great voice!
This is one of my biggest biggest biggest Favorite song thank you. Is always glad to see your videos
Hi ladies can I just say you two ladies are so beautiful anyway I'm John from East London in England this song by foreigner is one of the great songs of the 1980s
What an amazing video. So touching.
Move this song
Hey guys! I've missed ya!
Always reminds me of when I came off Drill Sgt status in Alabama and my next duty station in Colorado.
Such a powerful and beautiful song!!
Highly recommend you listen to Foreigner live with the 21st Symphony Orchestra and choir do URGENT. It'll blow you away.

Awesome grupp
Best power ballad of all time
I love this song and the group and the video
This was my teenage break up/didn't get the girl song
The gospel choir. Perfect
Amazing song
Backing vocals by the New Jersey Mass Choir. They later released their own recording of this song and add it to their tour setlist.
Cold as ice, feels like the first time, jukebox hero are some big time hits from foreigner
Lou Gramm what a beast
Very powerful song ❤indeed
You are " The mirrored beauty"
If you notice a video, everybody in the choir has a personal cameo throughout the video itself
i WAS A TEENAGER IN SMALL TOWN south of ATLANTA a group of us would go to the lake at night ,, this song was there
Excellent comments, M&D ! Can I make a suggestion (this from a guy in the UK). Could you checkout ABBA's 'The Day Before You Came' official video? Agent Provocateur put Foreigner back on the map.
Gave me chills as well.

I have just found your channel . What a great musical trip down memory lane

Being waiting a long long time lol
Lou gram great voice with passion, foreigner 4 the album great ❤❤
I love this music! ! The days of innocent are over it's because you discover to love someone. ❤ I know she love me ! But it didnt manifest in reality because someone will suffer if I persu it . Anyway I survived but it hunt me for good . Got me ! Human ?
Hi, brand new subscriber! Love your Garth Brooks reactions and this as well… how do we request a song from an artist I don’t see on your list? 😊😊😊
React to Survivor's "Is This Love." It's a very underrated band. It deserves a lot of recognition. Do this favour.
Lou Gramms voice!!!
I'm not sure there is a better song than this...
The both of you have very beautiful dark hair.
Break It Up from 4 is great!
They are called “Foreigner” because half are American, half British so whatever country they were in, some would be foreigners.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hello ladies, love your reactions to the music. If you haven't already done it but could you please please do a reaction to Mike+ The Mechanics "The Living Years"
Lou Gramm is from New York
