Great video. Thanks for sharing. Have already bought one. Have tried other blades and was not satisfied with the results. However, will try this one in a couple of months, since the weather is extremely hot now, everywhere in Europe, especially in the south.
I know. The weather has slowed me down somewhat! I have 5 fallen trees to clear up about 50 yards further up the garden! Sigh.
I suspect the dry weather has been the cause of that too, one tree fell and managed to pull down 4 more with it. I hope you find the blade useful. I certainly use it a lot. :-)
I bought the two bladed version of Oregon mulcher blade a few months back, and only got the chance to try it out a few days ago, using a Stihl FS91 four stroke trimmer. Wow! What a great tool for the thick brush! Before using it, I used the stock three bladed Stihl blade, and while it cut brush and smallest saplings fairly well, it left debris that then got in the way of advancing the blade into another swath. I also use a Renegade circular saw type blade for trees and heavier brush, and it, too, has its place. But the Oregon blade is my go to in the thick vine type brush, with occasional sapling. It has the rotating mass to swing through the thick.
It is the mulching action that makes it do useful Graham! :-)
Thanks Russell for your video on this brushcutter blade and how to use it. Interestingly, it wasn't available in the US, so I ended up purchasing via Amazon UK. Tried it today on my Stihl trimmer on thick, tall blackberry bush, and it worked great!
I think that this blade is absolutely brilliant. It is really strange how bit is not available overt there in the US. I would have thought it would sell really well over there. :-)
The blade works excellent, but ALWAYS use the protective guard and heavy duty protective clothing. I returned from emergency surgery just two hours ago with a 5cm wide and 3cm deep tear in my leg - I didn't hit a rock, brick or whatever, just a bit of woody weed flew at my leg like a bullet. I did have a guard on, somehow it managed to fly below it.

Purchased one of these blades because of your review to try on greenbreier in Texas. Looks like it should do the trick based on what I'm seeing here!
It is pretty effective with the heavier scrub. :-)
It tears through greenbriar vines very effectively, and doesn't snag the cutting head on all the vines. They are pulverised and gone!
great product. No one sells them here though. I found a knock off and it helped a lot for bramble removal (more recently the authentic blades appeared on Amazon USA). However one thing to watch out for: deceleration unthreading. One time I was removing brambles and I let off the throttle as the blade was working. This put instant backward torque on the nut holding it all together as the unit decelerated. The whole apparatus flew off and I lost a bunch of Stihl head pieces which cost a lot to replace. So don't let off the throttle until the cutter head is free and close to the level ground near you.

For some reason the blade is not on sale in the US either. Very strange! :-)
Finally somebody using a harness with a bush wacker.. I can't understand those guys (they are always Americans) that use the trimmer without the harness... Sure, you can do it for a 15 minutes, but try to clear brushes for 5-6 hours.. Also I like bicycle handlebars over this little O handles.
The harness is great for long periods of use. I prefer the D handles to the handlebars LOL. Thank you for taking the time to comment. :-)

I have the three blade version and it is much heavier and more aggressive. I ended up buying a new strimmer that had less power so bought the two bladed version as well and have not used the three blade since.

I tested the 3 blades this afternoon and it was very effective but pretty exhaustive too, especially since I'm skinnier than you and I have the U shape handle, it's definitely not made for this.. I think I must buy the one in your video and maybe tweak the handle. Take care Russell.

Great video, thanks! Anyone used this mulching technique with a handlebar style brush cutter? Easy or difficult to do that downward motion cut repeatedly? Or I suppose you could just put one hand behind the pivot point of the machine and one hand on one handlebar.
Fortunately I am dealing with nowhere near that quantity of brambles, but similar thickness and height. I have a three tooth cutting blade, and a clearing saw, but for the brambles that mulching blade looks like a great solution.
I initially tried the three blade version (Oregon sell it too, but it is much heavier than the two bladed version I demonstrate in the video) on a strimmer with handlebars and found it pretty difficult. I bought the Honda strimmer with the D shaped handle and the two bladed Oregon brush cutter which is a much easier set up to use.
That makes sense, the handlebar setup is great for sweeping left to right, but not for what you are doing here. Oh well, I guess I'll cut them at the base and burn them later.
I would buy one in a heartbeat! It must not be available in the US. I followed your link to the UK Amazon site, but for some reason it’s not on the US site. I have the circular blade and don’t care for it. It won’t mulch like yours. Anyway thanks for the video!
How strange. I just spent 20 minutes looking in the US too with no luck. There was one listed on ebay.com that had sold out and I saw a UK ebay seller that would ship it from the UK. It is a real pity because the blade is cheap and very effective.
I had no trouble finding them at my local saw and garden shops. The local Stihl dealer while admitting it's a effective blade, will not sell them because he says the blades are build just off balanced enough to cause enough harmonic vibration that it will either break the drive head or drive shaft of the weed eater. He told me I'm welcome to buy it somewhere else but expect potential damage to my machine.
So far I have had no problems with mine Brent. I just has another major clear out with it this week. If you are worried I wouldn't risk it. :-)
After seeing you video I said to myself: This is what I need to clear the Kudzu that is taking over the back of my property. So I searched for it on line and I found a Champion blade on eBay. Exactly the same blade, except the color.I received that already and I installed on my Stihl FS-55R . .... and I have a problem. The blade vibrates very much. It is mounted correctly as other mulch blades I have but they are circular in shape.
.I did not use it because I am afraid the vibration could brake something of my Trimmer. I assume that the blade is not balanced. When you installed your Oregon, did you have a similar problem and how did you solve it. Could it be that my trimmer needs to have a different head to be able to use it ?? If anybody knows the solution I will appreciate to let me know.
Hi Enrique, it sounds like the blade is out of balance. Try screwing a screw into a vertical surface, like a fence post or door frame. Make sure that the screw is horizontal. Place the blade onto the screw with the screw passing through hole in the centre for the trimmer head. If the blade is out of balance it will not hang horizontally. Grind metal off the low side and keep trying it on the nail until the blade is balanced. It should be OK then. Grind the blade on the opposite side of the cutting edge. I hope this helps. :-)

How do you find using it with a loop handled brush cutter ,I've been asking around and have been advised to use a handle bar type, but I was hoping to use it on a sthil kombi unit cheers
I prefer the loop handle and find it much easier to control. I have a handle bar set up and cannot get along with it. I think it is really a matter of personal preference. Loop for me though. 🙂

how well does it do against rocks? I am trimming a place that was a lot of grown weeds between rocks. will this hold?
I will be dangerous on rocky ground. I have hit a few with no issues, but it would probably damage your machine along with the blade. :-)
How long did it take for the sprouts to come back?
Not long Charles. The area I cleared before making the video is still clear and I use my mower on the garden side. I have kept on top of the other side with the brush cutter. The area I cleared whilst filming the video is now a nettle patch as I decided to leave that section for the winter when it has all died down as it is a huge area. I cleared one area at the top of the garden that has been a problem for years. I got rid of the bramble with the brush cutter and removed a tree stump so that I could mow it in future. I posted a couple of videos showing the stump removal where you can see the area I cleared with this blade. It is a brilliant bit of kit! :-)
I use a stihl shredder blade on a stihl fs450, does most thing damn well to be honest.

I'm planning same thing. I bought 2 parkside 4n1s for spare parts. And I just bought this blade for clearing a buck load brambles. It's worse than jumanzi.
I wonder if I could use this to trim hedges? I have 50' of hedges that are 24 inches from a building - just enough to walk behind them. The walk way get huge amounts of weeds and vines AND hedge trimmings.
I reckon it would trim the hedges, but it would leave them in a mess. It would not look too good. :-)
On second thoughts, I would not even try it. It would be dangerous using the brush cutter at height and in a confined space. :-)
Can this be used on a batter operator 18 volt cutter. What band is this comparable
I would not use this on a cordless machine. It may cope with it, but it is pretty heavy and requires a fair bit of torque in use. I do not have a cordless strimmer, so this is only my opinion. :-)

Yes, it cuts both vertically and horizontally so it is way more effective. :-)
Good tool. Better than those blades that jump violently if in contact with hard wood or big stone, how does this react if you do hit something hard?
It does jump, but it is not too bad. :-)

The link is to the 3mm version for smaller strimmers. There is a 4mm version and Oregon also do a 3 bladed version too which I have tried and is very effective. The 4mm and 3 bladed versions are a little too heavy for my 25cc Honda strimmer.

Did it re shoot from the multiple 4-5in bits of cane left after attacking it?
Are you still mowing/thrashing regrowth from the underground crown root system?
I have a similar problem on my new property down here in Tasmania.
I’ve been informed saturation with poison Grazon Extra to the fresh leaf growth after flowering is the only way to kill this hideous annoyance.
Would love to have your (or anyone’s) feedback.
I hate poison, goats take too long & fencing expense for goats is out of the question.
If shredding & subsequent mowing works that’d be great.

It comes with fittings for different machines. I would imagine that it would fit your machine, but I do not know for sure. :-)
Wouldn’t a normal 3 point blade do the same thing?
The normal 3 blade head only cuts in one plane, the Oregon head cuts in two planes. If you hold the brush cutter horizontal, a normal blade will only cut horizontally, the Oregon blade will cut horizontally and vertically. This dual action helps to mulch the brush as it is being cut and is much quicker. :-)

I hope you like it. I have cleared a fairly large area of very thick brambles and it is hard work, but the blade gets the job done and makes things a lot easier. :-)
It’s called an Oregon blade.....can’t buy it in the United States....Oregon....why won’t they sell it here?
I know Charles, it makes no sense at all. I received a comment from a viewer a few days ago who purchased his from Amazon UK and paid for shipping to the US. I personally think that it would be worth doing that if the postage is not too pricey, he never said what he paid for postage. I have resharpened and balanced mine, so it is not a one time use blade.

Strong blade but not enough engine power
It has been fine Noah. I am not a professional user, but I have cleared a fair bit of ground with this set up so far and in my opinion the engine copes well. I reckon if I was clearing ground every day the engine power may be an issue. I love the harness and handle arrangement too. I am very happy with it.
That's a 34.8 cc Honda brush cutter and they have a lot of power. I own one. I'd recommend the BrushDestructor blade out of Australia. It's at least twice as productive at mulching brambles with that same Honda unit and it can also quickly take down a 6 in. hardwood tree if need be. Kind of pricey but I'd pay double for one if I had to. Here is a video of me with that same Honda unit using a BrushDestructor blade.

I use a backpack brushcutter with a bit more power (Echo RM-410ES brushcutter), but I'm a professional operator. It saves my back and the shaft is alot easier to use, especially on steep banks. Your set-up is fine though for the casual user.
