  • One of my favorite 9mm carry guns. We look at what this gun is capable of.

    I was Military Police in the Army so I have extensive training with firearms long rifles and pistols. I recently obtained my conceal and carry for my state. My first everyday carry weapon was an M&P shield 9mm. After taking this gun to the range 2 or 3 times I no longer felt I could trust this weapon with my life on the line. More malfunctions than I could count and very inaccurate. While that gun was sent in to be repaired, I purchased a Glock 26 4th gen. Let me tell you I don't think I will ever go back to the M&P Shield as my everyday carry. I purchased the Glock 26 immediately took it to the range without even cleaning it, it has never failed on me, And the accuracy is noticeably better. That being said I do think there were some defective issues with the staring on the barrel of the M&P Shield, and the ammo I use at the range is not the highest quality. I've been nothing but impressed with my Glock 26 4th gen and would recommend this gun to anyone for an everyday carry. It has been 100% flawless for me in its performance.

      @@matmon4953 It's a little thicker but not bad at all for printing imo. Honestly though I really don't care much anymore about printing.

    Thanks for watching and commenting. The G23 is excellent and great EDC carry. In my experience (and for my small hands) the G26 is a bit easier to get fast/ accurate hits on target. Also the ammo is less expensive than the .40 so you get more practice! Bottom line both will do the job when you need it!

    Thanks for watching. This question is largely a matter of personal "choice" and it's subjective. Whatever gun you can shoot well and get good hits with is a good place to start. Both Glocks and MPs have been reliable and durable (Shot 18,000 rnds in my MP pro) and 25,000 through my Gen 2 Glock 19. Both are solid performers.
    Check out my other vids on MPs and Glocks that might help...

    Thanks for watching. This is a common question from people wondering which one is best. The answer is it really Is dependent on the mission. The G 19 is in my opinion the best compromise for size comfort and use. The 26 is a smaller gun bit better for concealed carry. However if you're trying to develop skills on a firearm the larger gun the easier it is to master the skills. If you mastered the fundamentals of shooting then a small handgun as advantages for carry...

    No. The issue is my primers are not fully seated therefore they protrude slightly from the base and therefore the primer does not ignite. Never had one issue with any Glock shooting factory ammo... the malfunctions that I get are my reloads. And they're always the same problem I simply have not seated the primer... The three to half pound connector makes no difference whatsoever From a Reliability standpoint. Thanks for watching. Hope you will share the videos with others.

    I actually enjoyed watching this video. I carry a G26 Gen3 as my EDC, with the 10 round flush magazine. In my pocket rides a G19 mag with the X-Grip sleeve. That thing makes the G19 mag fit so well in the 26 that it's just crazy, love the X-Grips.

  • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
    @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  11 років тому

    Actually the type one malfunction was related to my reloads. Often since I did load volume I failed to fully seat primer this causes this type of malfunction. Never had any issues whatsoever with factory now and it fired thousands of rounds through the gun. 3 1/2 lb connector does not affect the actual striking of the primer that would be the Striker Spring. I have not changed the striker spring. Thanks for watching

      how much does the g26 kick/recoil than the g19? i have carpel tunnel so its a big deal. i cant wait for my g42

      @yukno374 8 років тому +1

      i asked about the g26 and 19 because i want a 9mm but a soft shooting accurate one im just thinking g26 has much more recoil for home i keep g30sf but feel way more comfortable using a 380 because of the accuracy i get, like i said the carpel tunnel makes the 380 round the best for me

    The grip extension is still more concealable than the 19 while allowing (for most people) a three-fingered grip. Same idea as a bobtail on a 1911.

    I just added the G26 to my collection. I took it to the range for the first time yesterday to break it in. I will say, the pistol does shoot well, recoil is minimal in my hands and it is as accurate as any other. The trigger, for me is okay as well. The thing is, out of all my sub-compacts, the Glock is the only one I got slide bite from.

    Great shooting! I've shot qualifiers on 8" targets at 25 yrds and I can't get hits that well!
    Love my G26. Have a Shield that I carry, as well. Like the Shield, but can't shoot it as well as the good ol G26! Great size and feel combined with big gun accuracy is hard to beat.

    Combat vet here, actually have had to use the G26 in a few situations. As much as I love my Beretta M9 (and boy do I love it, even when I had the chance to upgrade to something else I didn't, I'd done a lot of work to mine), I own quite a few handguns ranging from Glock 19 to Kimber TLE 2 (way overrated imo, anything with a 200 round break-in is not something i'd ever recommend to anyone except competition shooters who dump $1-5k in their guns anyway), Springfield XDm, Smith and Wesson M&Pc (Which was my primary carry over my Glock 19 for awhile), the Canick TP-9 sf is my newest that I love, along with another Gen 3 Glock 26, as of right now it's my primary carry gun. I see no reason to carry the heftier guns when the chances of engaging someone past 45 feet on my current job is so low that you'd just be overly paranoid and distracted to even focus on that. (I guard money-trucks, won't say for who or what but it's a good job esp for a one-eyed handicripple veteran like myself. All I had to prove was combat proficiency and they really wanted me to help manage security so, I went all Nick Fury on 'em :P)
    Good shootin', btw. Us handicripples are quite handy!

    In fact, it's more likely the ammo with mine as I use the factory trigger and rebound springs. When I had a model 49 an acquaintance at my prior gun club cut a couple of coils off the latter, and it smoothed out and lightened the pull, but it would not always go off on very slow pulls.

    Fair question. the G19 is really the best "small" full sized Glock in my opinion. however, sometimes the G26 is just a better (smaller) carry option. Plus I like the whole Glock 9mm family. I can shoot the G26 with the flush fitting mags fine. But prefer the slightly longer +2 mag extension (so you have 12+1 capacity.

    Great video as usual ! My EDC is a Glock 26 Gen3.I carry my G26 with a Glock 19 magazine with a X-grip insert. Even with all of the new micro 9mm out here such as the Shield plus, Sig 365 and the Springfield Hellcat, the 26 still works for me !

  • @Highlander0766
    @Highlander0766 8 років тому +5

    Buy a Model 19 GLOCK if you want a longer grip. The short grip is designed for better concealment. Once you add the extended magazine, you negate the benefit of the size differential. It's up to you though.

    I don’t feel one is “better” than the other. I own both and have great appreciation for Glock and M&P pistols. I’ve shot and carried Glocks as an EDC for twenty years. I like and am impressed with the M&P line in that it fits my hand better. If comparing the M&P full size then you need to compare it to the G17. Glocks are not as good a fit in my hands but I would definitely choose a G17 or G19 if heading off to combat. Checkout the other vids on my channel on Glocks & MPs some of G26 v MP9c

    The Glock OR the M&P would serve you well. You should try them first and get some training with a good instructor. It's always easier to shoot a full size gun than a compact version. The question you have to ask is "how will I use the gun... will i carry it or will it be in a safe?" Good instruction is very important as is "trying" the side arm. I have several vids on Glocks and MPs on the channel. Check them out...

      No pistol can guarantee zero stoppages. Most of these are either operator induced stoppages or a problem with the ammo or the magazine.
      Knowing how to clear stoppages is an essential part of the manual of arms with semi automatic pistols.

    +Guns, Gears & On Target Training, LLC If using G26 for home defense, would loading the weapon with 115 grain Hornady Critical Defense FTX HP or American Gunner XTP JHP be adequate or would these lite weight rounds sacrifice too much weight and stopping power in exchange for lighten recoil? How about a 100 grain lite load?
    Thanks for a great video... Enjoyed your show and another show on testing guns and various ammos.

      +Milton Yee I like using what large Law enforcement organizations are using. These include rounds like the Speed Gold Dot 124 grn or 124 grn +P or the Winchester Ranger T 127 +p+. As far as home protection, I personally perfer egressing the building if possible or establishing strong hold position in a room, dialing 911 and waiting for the police to arrive. The rounds you mention are also good options. I just prefer heavier bullets in the 124 grain - 130 grain range.

    Okay, understood,but are you sure it is a failure to fully seat or seating too deeply.
    On another thought, I do know that on a revolver like a 442 if I do a very slow and soft pull I am more likely to have a light strike with reloaded or non-factory ammo - but that's different operating mechanism.

      The G26 a great pistol for sure. I actually have moved to the G48 with the Shield Arms 15 round mag. Very slim and reliable. with a 15+1 capacity and full sized grip, it's winner in my view. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    I had a shield and traded it for a G26. Smith and Wesson ticked me off with my 9mm FS. The fact that they think the trigger is fine is unacceptable. I took some heat from a veteran that I would get rid of an American gun for an Austrian gun. I said that we need to step up.

    Is this a good CCW and/or all-purpose gun for a woman? What about racking the slide? When I shot the gen 5 at the range, I had trouble removing the safety flag and holding the slide back simultaneously, which meant that the slide went into position when I did manage to remove the flag. As a result, I had to rack the slide to chamber a round and evidently wasn't able to rack it all the way back, which caused a failure to feed. I did not experience this with the other pistols I shot, not even the Shield Plus, which also wasn't the easiest. Is it a matter of practice or improving grip strength?

    • @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC
      @GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC  Рік тому

      Yes, try the M&P EZ . Many of my students who have issue racking the slide find this pistol a great solution. There are videos of the 9mm and .380 version on my UA-cam channel.
      Hope this helps and you’ll subscribe and watch other content on my channel.

      @@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC I've shot the EZ before and it's reliable enough, but I'm more interested in the newer Equalizer compared to the EZ. I can also rack the Ruger Security-9 pistols (both full-size and compact) and the M&P 2.0 Compact, as well as the G19 and the Sig P365 pistols (and some others) without trouble using the push-pull method. So while I do have some limitations re: hand strength (thanks to a lifelong condition), they aren't so bad that everything else is impossible to manage, so I'm trying to keep my options open in addition to figuring out ways to improve my grip strength and technique. Thank you for the recommendation.

      @@rosemarsili9159 For concealed carry I like the Glock 48 with Shield Arms Mags. but carried a G19 for years. Recently I've been using the P365XL for EDC.
      I have a significant handicap with my left hand and arm but have no issues racking the slide on any semi-auto. Best of luck and stay safe. Given you're comfortable using the "power stroke" or what you referred to as the push / pull technique I'd suggest trying several pistols and find what best fits your hand. Stay safe.

      @@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC I love the P365XL and have chosen it as my primary carry, but I'm trying to keep my options open in the event that I may need something different, so I'm asking around. Thank you for the reply and you stay safe also. :)

      It's not as small as the 26 or P365XL, but the Walther PDP F-Series may be what you're looking for. Has a lighter recoil spring so it's easier to rack the slide.

    I've honestly only ever shot a full sized .45 as far as Glock goes. How would you say the felt recoil in the g26 would compare to say, an LCR or Aluminum j frame with +p loads? Subbed by the way!

    ok, so what would you choose as a only gun or first pistol out of the 26, m&p9c and the shield? all striker fired good shooting reliable tools out of the box but what's the best pick? I'm sure there's videos on this subject but I like your advice in your videos.

      Is this going to be a target sport, home defense or carry gun?

    • @insertname290
      @insertname290 8 років тому

      +t77snapshot already got the shield, looking to buy a full size now. reason for buying the shield was first off, I got a steal on it lol 500 for the pistol, the two factory mags plus 5 additional 8 Rd mags, gun bag, box of hollows, 2 boxes of target ammo, enough stuff to clean the gun for a year and to top it off l....it was NEVER FIRED. figured I could do it all with this pistol and I was somewhat right. I have smaller hands and even I wish the grip would fill my hands a little more. I think a full size m&p is next. would even consider buying a g26 gen 3 as my "full size" even though it's not much bigger because it's got a wider grip and capable of larger capacity mags (like 33rd and those glock drums ) I was on the fence about what kind of pistol to buy first but feel like I made a pretty good choice. have put 650 ish rounds through this little mighty mouse of a gun and not ONE issue. my buddy's g43 even jammed a few times on break in so I'm pretty impressed. anyways, thanks for the reply. figured I'd atleast share my experience up until now. has been a pleasure. only mod is I kind of scratched out the rear 2 dots for faster target acquisition at short range. other then that, don't feel like I need to do anything. might go for a tritium dot one day but as of now I'm more then satisfied.

    I mean this in the most respectful way possible, and I am asking because I am truly curious. Do you have full grip strength in your left (support) hand? And does it inhibit your shooting at all?
