Marty Music Digging it. Thanks Marty! Love Jamin along with your long intro sets. Thanks for all you do, I've got a set little Taylor GS mini. Hey, can you help us with this beautiful and complex chord progression? It's jono mccleery, this idea of us ua-cam.com/video/vLnrTS_P3jk/v-deo.html
Humidipak tip: When they dry out, don't throw them away. Put 'em in a Tupperware with a separate vessel filled with distilled water (i.e. don't get the humidpaks wet), and close the Tupperware. Two weeks later....bam! Good as new.
To add to this, you can also buy the same product literally called “humidifier packs”! They have ones that keep humidity at 55% at less than half the cost, and for more than double the quantity
I live in a slightly humid climate with the humidity ranging from 65-85 outside. I run a humidity controlled dehumidifier which brings the humidity down to 45-55%. I have two sensors to check at all times and alert me when it’s wrong. I don’t use the packs at all, I don’t generally need to add humidity just remove it. Because of this I can keep my guitar out of its case for easy access at anytime.
Although cutting the strings is certainly faster, I would take the time to take it off in one piece. You had to guess how long the string has to be to get a good amount of windings on the tuner. You ended up with one winding. I once had my guitar set-up by a luthier and he set it up perfectly with the right amount of wraps on each string. Now I take off the old strings and cut the new string to the same length. I end up with a nice clean headstock with the right amount of wraps around each tuning peg.
Acoustic guitar is very hard To please but I love playing acoustic blues. I can jam during 3hours, I just love the song of my acoustic guitar. So that's great that you do this! thanks Marty ! Rock'on!🎸
The sound will have become incredibly dull and lifeless.the stringa must be grossly dirty. I change mine every few weeks playing many hours a day though.
My acoustics i tqke care of them as if they were my childs, And i do the same with some electrics, but damn i really keep playing for hours and hours on my les paul and i maanaged to let it age natirally after the years. It really looks beatiful and feels so personal
Similar feeling for Taylor Academy Series and a blowout priced Breedlove Pursuit Exotic Concert E Sitka-Koa. 'Course they were bored this past year and produced the AD12e and GTK-12e at Taylor... buying off the lot after they've been parked for awhile...
Cool video Marty some good tips. The one thing I would question though is how you wind a new string on. The way you showed requires the string to go round the peg a few times to be secure and even then, unless you've overlapped at some point, it isn't guaranteed not to slip. Dave Doll from Martin Guitars shows a great way to do it, his method needs fewer wraps and is very secure.
Great advice Marty! I also take my guitar to my local Luthier for a check once a year. That way he can check for Action/Intonation & Truss Rod adjustment, among other things......... :)
Lol when you said throw it on the ground.. I instantly think about how I step on them randomly because I forget to pick up that one D string / hurts my soul every time
If you simply push down on the string you have just cut at the pin you will not need to use the pin remover. The pin will be freed up immediately. Those pin removers as near as I can tell were designed for clumsy people (most of us) to mar the finish of your acoustic when it slips off, which will cause you to hate your life.
Could you please do cliffs of Dover? I really wanna learn the rest of the song but no one else has any high quality tutorials and I really like your style of teaching.
DONT USE HUMIDIPAKS IN HIGH ALTITUDE OR DESERT REGIONS!! I’ve had two dry out thinking the humidifier packs were doing their job.. use the Oasis humidifiers on that case
I’ve been wanting to buy a Taylor Acoustic Guitar but worried that I won’t be able to maintain it properly. Can someone clarify it to me. Is it okay if I will put humidipak on the guitar itself then put the guitar in a gig bag? And I will only take off the humidipak when I will use the guitar then I will put it back if I will be storing my guitar again to its gig bag?
Hey Martyr ,hey guess what? I didn’t just find my guitar my guitars found me , I was taking out the trash and really wasn’t paying attention till the last second when I saw a beautiful acoustic on top of the pile l,As I was throwing my trash bag mid-flight I jump up and grab the guitar, Well she was missing strings and the little thin white thingy on top of the bridge that holds the strings in place ,Next I give it a once over and notice the strings are super low much lower than electric,Nothing wrong with her not one dead note she is beautiful, now I will learn how to play grandpa guitar
I watched an old lesson from you, how to play The Game Of Thrones Theme Song. I realized you have done everything, only some Megadeth and Pantara is missing. So hehe 😝 ...i would appreciate it, if you make a lesson ...see you in the next video 😜💪 ...great toutorial by the way!
Hey Marty great vids! I'm planning on purchasing a Seagull S6 in the near future and the cost of the original is the same as the acoustic-electric model, so I was wondering if there was any real difference in sound when playing them normally? I don't currently have any need for the electrics, but since there's no price difference, should I just buy the acoustic-electric anyway just in case I have a need for the electrics at some point in the future?
Leave it tuned, there's nothing which can damage your guitar by leaving it tuned. Plus, it's more of a hassle if you detune it nightly and retune in the morning.
Hey Marty, love the channel. Been practicing my acoustic life along with you when I have time ☝🏻🎸 . Question for ya and if you had time to even display it is . What’s the difference in the acoustic guitar strings I’m using 80/20 , but seen there’s a lot of different Metals and sizes. Peace ✌️ , and ready been enjoying the quarantine jam sessions
An issue with silicone anything on your guitar - it's impossible to clean off well enough for glue to ever stick to it. A big problem if your guitar ever needs repair. For example, you drop the guitar and break the headstock... The Luthier will need to do gluework repairs - which will fail if you've gotten silicone onto the wood.
I just got an acoustic today. Very big and heavy... no returns, tho lol. Idk anything about guitars. I'm scared something might happen to the strings, and I won't know what to do.

Don’t use them in high altitude or desert regions. It’s not enough moisture

Unwinds the cut string and drops it saying, "just throw it down there with all the legos!" 🤣 As a father with lego loving kids, I can relate!
Any idea where to buy elbow grease? People tell me most stores have it right next to the blinker fluid but I can't find any.

What about oiling the fretboard once or twice per year with lemon oil?
RNArizona..... great advice! I'm not far from AZ and the desert is a big issue for acoustics.

There are simple ways to clean up your guitar

2. Washing machine

What type of website do you use to learn songs
Hey Marty...you mentioned lubricating the tuning pegs and the bridge...what do you use to do that with? and how do you do it?
most use vaseline
Petroleum products like vaseline and lithium grease will destroy rubber and plastic. Best to use silicone grease.
Pencil for the nut. Spray dry Teflon for the tuners.
