    Humidipak tip: When they dry out, don't throw them away. Put 'em in a Tupperware with a separate vessel filled with distilled water (i.e. don't get the humidpaks wet), and close the Tupperware. Two weeks later....bam! Good as new.

      To add to this, you can also buy the same product literally called “humidifier packs”! They have ones that keep humidity at 55% at less than half the cost, and for more than double the quantity

    • @TheOnlyGuitarFather
      @TheOnlyGuitarFather 2 роки тому +2

      Don’t use them in high altitude or desert regions. It’s not enough moisture

  • @greatkingrat
    @greatkingrat 9 місяців тому +2

    I live in a slightly humid climate with the humidity ranging from 65-85 outside. I run a humidity controlled dehumidifier which brings the humidity down to 45-55%. I have two sensors to check at all times and alert me when it’s wrong. I don’t use the packs at all, I don’t generally need to add humidity just remove it. Because of this I can keep my guitar out of its case for easy access at anytime.

    Although cutting the strings is certainly faster, I would take the time to take it off in one piece. You had to guess how long the string has to be to get a good amount of windings on the tuner. You ended up with one winding. I once had my guitar set-up by a luthier and he set it up perfectly with the right amount of wraps on each string. Now I take off the old strings and cut the new string to the same length. I end up with a nice clean headstock with the right amount of wraps around each tuning peg.

    Cool video Marty some good tips. The one thing I would question though is how you wind a new string on. The way you showed requires the string to go round the peg a few times to be secure and even then, unless you've overlapped at some point, it isn't guaranteed not to slip. Dave Doll from Martin Guitars shows a great way to do it, his method needs fewer wraps and is very secure.

    If you simply push down on the string you have just cut at the pin you will not need to use the pin remover. The pin will be freed up immediately. Those pin removers as near as I can tell were designed for clumsy people (most of us) to mar the finish of your acoustic when it slips off, which will cause you to hate your life.

Is it okay if I will put humidipak on the guitar itself then put the guitar in a gig bag? An issue with silicone anything on your guitar - it's impossible to clean off well enough for glue to ever stick to it. A big problem if your guitar ever needs repair. For example, you drop the guitar and break the headstock... The Luthier will need to do gluework repairs - which will fail if you've gotten silicone onto the wood.
