I've said it before and I'll say it again but Dirt is one of the best albums of all time.
Top 5 for sure.
I still prefer Facelift for the vocals and guitar solos, but I remember hearing this song for the first time. Driving to pick up a friend from work in Worcester, MA on LSD and this came on the radio as their new single. The memory is VIVID.
Jar of Flies is amazing too, but for different reasons.
No doubt man🤘
*discography
The go-to Alice In Chains live performance is Love Hate Love live at The Moore in Seattle Wa.
Thank goodness they didn't go to the typical.
@@BillyBong Singles Would? and It ain't like that ❤
That and Bleed the Freak from the same set. However LHL is the bar set for all other frontmen to follow.
💯 Love Hate Love!!!
That was such a great show
Dude . Staley and Cantrell will always be the best duo of vocal harmonies in all of rock history .
No contest, Layne is the greatest frontman of all time. Dirt is the greatest grunge album of all time. But their debut, Facelift was also phenomenal. And then of course, their Unplugged is the greatest Unplugged performance of all time. Layne can’t be topped.
I'd say Dio or Plant are the greatest IMO but Layne is right up there.
considering how messed up Layne was on drugs during the unplugged it is a testament to his pure skill. This was my early teens (born in 80) so this is the music that influenced me HEAVY! Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, STP etc. To think most those bands the singer is gone...only one is Pearl Jam out of that bunch is alive
The ABSOLUTE BEST... 💯 Agreed!!!
3 leg dog album is also an underrated masterpiece and my favorite!
Watch “Love, Hate, Love” video. Two things to notice, from what you have said, Love Hate Love video Layne is younger and still healthy, hasn’t discovered his “illness” yet. He has a healthy amount of weight on him. The second thing is, you get to hear him LIVE ! Great singing and amazing breathing technique in the same song.
My guys, do yourself a favor and watch their show from Dec 1991 Live at the Moore. I recommend Bleed the Freak, Love Hate Love, Man in the Box, all from that show. Also from the movie “Singles” the recorded Live 2 songs It ain’t Like That and Would. Both are freaking amazing. These are PEAK Layne Staley. Once you watch these you’ll understand what peak Layne is. You haven’t seen anything yet!!!
Y’all done any Mad Season yet? “”Wake Up” , “The River of Deciet”… shit, the whole album is amazing. You can feel Laynes pain in every song he does.
Mad Season were a super-group in the Seattle scene in the 1990s, featuring Layne Staley of Alice In Chains, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees, and John Baker Saunders of The Walkabouts. The band only existed for one album.
John Baker Saunders passed away in 1999 from a heroin overdose. Layne Staley passed away in 2002.
Line-up:
Layne Staley - vocals, guitar
Mike McCready - guitars
John Baker Saunders - bass
Barrett Martin - drums, percussion
Love Hate Love is probably the one that could put this contest to rest. Layne gave it EVERYTHING live 🔥🔥🔥
They are at their best live at the Moore Theater. Also, the pro shot Singles live performance
Hell yes
My favorite band of all time ❤
You guys gotta watch their concert, Live at the Moore. In my opinion it’s Laynes greatest vocal performance, especially Love Hate Love.
Check out there live performance at the Moore in 1990 its unbelievable how badass they sound. That is Layne in his prime
✨Love this song!🤘 Layne will forever be such a badass front man!!! Not the best performance of the song I’ve heard, but still no one could ever live up to Layne’s talent!! Forever missed!!!!!!🤘🤘
Late with Jools Holland was and awesome show. He'd just have about 5 different bands roll though 4-5 different sets on the same stage over an hour. All ranges of music at the same show usually with one or two real headliners. It was a great show.
Absolutely.
Grunge hit big in 92 93 and then everybody else jumped on that sound . But AIC is my favorite by far of the grunge "big Four" which was AIC , Nirvana , Pearl Jam and Soundgarden .
Yall gotta get into some of Jerry’s solo stuff
As a side note; my favorite AIC song is: ‘Bleed The Freak’ because its my personal anthem. I was the only metalhead at a very close minded HS. They really thought I was the ‘next columbine’ because I wore a classic Metallica shirt on the first day…
So yea, bleed the freak, they never stopped coming at me. Still managed to finished top 10 in my class. AND I was a sophomore in college by the time I graduated HS. So they can all stick it in their craw
It was the Muppets with Mahna Mahna.
Plus, Alice in Chains had so many songs that would grab you by your soul and give it a squeeze.
Layne is a grunge God.
AiC were basically done by 1995/1996. The debut album came out in 1990, then the landmark "Dirt" was 1992 during the peak of the grunge era. Nirvana were gone by 1994, and Layne was so deep into dope by 1995 that they didn't even really tour for their 1995 self-titled album, and Jerry definitely has a bigger presence there in terms of taking over lead vocals. Layne had done the Mad Season album in 1995 also, with Mike McCready (also of Pearl Jam) hoping that the band would help get Layne clean. Unplugged was 1996 and they had to drag Layne to that. The band basically went into indefinite hiatus around that time until reforming much later after Cantrell's successful solo career and a much-hyped search for a new frontman.
PLEASE DO MORE LIVE AIC. My suggestion is Man In The Box (Live at the Moore 1990)
I watched this when it was first broadcast live on the BBC here in the UK. They played Would? that evening also. Great band, great album, good memories, good times. .
Jools Holland's television show ran in the UK in the early 90's...Some of the best television performances by bands from that era; very good quality, good variety of guests...
Show is still going, I think. At least through the end of 2022 it was. Awesome showcase of different bands and genres in each episode. Jools should be in the R&R HOF.
Jools Holland was in sqeeze❤ check em out you lovely people🖖
The MTV Unplugged was filmed/recorded in 1996 and Layne was in rough shape, that was pretty much the end of the Layne era and the band didnt do much recording until after his passing. Personally think Jerry has done a great job and written some cool songs since but definitely a different sound for the most part, there are a few songs that you get a vibe from the old days
You need to watch their set from the movie Singles. "Would" and "Aint like that" live
My favorite band of all time!!!
LIVE AT THE MOORE!!!!!!
THE WHOLE DAMN THING!!
Floor is an excellent singer . But there is in no way I could put her over Layne . He was so original and also timeless and so creative and one hell of a frontman ! I hope my boy Layne pulls out the win . Floor might kick out on 2 , but AIC and Layne has got to put her down for the 3 count .
If you guys want to see them perform live you need to check out "Love, Hate, Love" from the Moore. Layne's vocals will blow your mind.
I saw AIC in Chicago at the Aragon while they were on tour for Dirt. One of the best shows I ever saw.
Layne is a G.O.A.T!
This album helped me express myself as a 90s teen 🙏🏻
One of my fav AiC tracks.
Dirt is probably the hands down best album from them.
Check out the live version of "It ain't like that"
Pure power and charisma
You guys should check out a live version of It Ain't Like That .....🔥
If we're doing lead singers/frontmen or women, you gotta throw Scott Weiland from STP in the mix. Check em out in like 2001 when Scott had the mohawk. Rolling Rock 2001 was amazing. I was there so maybe I'm biased haha
Watch bleed the freak live version his voice is unreal ❤
Jerry Cantrell is the riff master
Layne absolutely gets my vote!!!
This is NOTHING, compared to seeing them Live, with Layne, i was lucky enough to see him multiple times
Agree, saw AIC at Lollapalooza 93 and it was magical.
Jerry with his legendary “Blue Dress” G&L Rampage guitar named after the cutout photo of the topless lady in a blue dress on the back end of the guitar. G&L was a company co founded by Leo Fender, George Fullerton and Dale Hyatt in the late 70’s. Made with Leo Fender’s newest innovations at the time more than a decade after Leo sold his stake in Fender in’65. The time in between he had worked with Music Man as a silent partner. He co founded that company in 1971 and left A number of years later. That company was eventually sold to Ernie Ball. And are best known for their guitar stings currently.
Mid 90's his appearance drastically changed, during UNPLUGGED he didn't have any teeth, BUT SANG GREAT!!!
He had teeth 😂 why do people repeat this because it’s not even true
@BMC 1982 whatever, that's what I read, and I never can say I saw any teeth and I own the video and watch it often
@@coreywickramasekera9968 You should not believe everything you read, and you should actually watch that and pay attention…. You can clearly see bottom teeth on the Vevo official unplugged videos on UA-cam, Rooster @ 1:40, Got Me Wrong @ 2:50, Sludge Factory @ 4:58, Would @ 2:49. You can see his top teeth on the Letterman Performance of We Die Young @ 3:08-3:09 and 3:21-3:23 which performed was after the unplugged show. So he obviously had teeth, they weren’t in great shape by then but he definitely had them
@BMC 1982 BTW it's in more than one article/ story, and discussion about "THE UNPLUGGED" show, s9 THAT'S WHY PEOPLE KEEP "REPEATING" IT!!! I LOVE LAYNE STALEY, and miss his contributions to the world 🌎, and I am NEVER SPEAKING DEROGATORY, OR NEGATIVELY ABOUT HIM, HE'S MY ELVIS/ JOHN LENNON!!!
Good God I have asked for this one on here for years until I gave up . Maybe I should stop fn around and become a Patrion member lol ! But I am so glad to see it here finally . YOU GOT IT !!! AND TODAAY!!!!!!
Jooles Holland hosted one of the best live music TV shows ever! Many huge bands played live here
Jools Holland still does a New Year's Eve show leading up until midnight ever single year. He basically hosts awesome bands on his show.
I think you would love Bleed the Freak live at The Moore❤
If you want to see early Layne check out Live at the Moore 1990
one of AIC´s best songs
Later with Jools Holland is a performance show in England, tons of great music on his show
“ IT AINT LIKE THAT” LIVE AT THR MOORE THEATER SEATTLE 1990!!! Or BLEED THE FREAK LIVE AT THE MOORE 1990!! I promise you boys it does not get better than that!!!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Should see the Ain't Like That from the Singles shoot.
Mike Starr the bass player such a showman...gone too soon. RIP
God, he just looked like a rock star...
Omg love hate love live at the Moore you’ll freak! It’s a must!!!!!!🎉🎉
My favorite AIC song!
93 was peak grunge imo. Layne peak though, was either Live at the Moore, or the Singles premiere.
Layne THE literal GOAT 🖤
Layne is the OG of side to side head banging!
The northwest scene hit its peak around 89-90.
Jools Holland is like a Jimmy Fallon or David Letterman type late night show over in the UK. The highlight years for grunge were around 92-93. By then Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden all released at least one or two of their studio albums. I think grunge pretty much died when Kurt did in 94. Alice's last album with Layne was around 95 or 96, Soundgarden released their last album of the 90s around 96 or 97, but Pearl Jam was still releasing albums. If not in 94, id say between 95-96 grunge was about done overall. You did have the first wave of the post-grunge era coming out between 94-97, Bush and Silverchair being the big ones, but you also had alternative rock all through the 90's.
Their behind the scenes MTV headbangers ball stuff on youtube is great
Joolz holland was music show that was on TV late on a Saturday night in the UK, great show...
Jools Hollands is? was the keys player for Squeeze - who did "up the Junction" which is a pretty cool band/track...
He's now a creep that hosts a music show for the BBC.
Awesome video as always guys
Love Lane BUT...the front man with the best VOICE EVER was CHRIS CORNELL from Soundgarden.
Hands DOWN.
Saw him live with Soundgarden and with Audioslave years later.
His range was UNBELIEVABLE. The POWER in his voice was unbelievable!
He sounded just as good live as he did on any album he did. Check out "Rusty Cage" or "Jesus Christ Pose"
No he is not.
Ohhhhhhh dat power bro. Miss those days.
Jerry looked BEYOND blasted.
Love, Hate, Love at the live at the Moore Theatre
Jerry Cantrell wrote this, but during the initial rehearsal Layne said ' I hear a scream here' and so that; is where the first HEY or whatever comes from.
Live at the Moore, any song is legendary.
Cancel route🔥🔥🔥 gentlemen, gentlemen,, check out, Love, Hate, Love, live by Alice In Chains if you like this live performance!! Wayne is definitely in his prime on that as well🤘🏼🔥🔥🔥🤘🏼
Layne is amazing. Watch AIC live at the Moore. Or doing this song, and Angry Chair on MTV’s NYE 92 Layne should win.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Y'all really need to do "Got Me Wrong" the unplugged version. It really shows off the the dynamics of the harmonies between Layne and Jerry! So good.
checkout all the old footage from “ LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND”. killer show. usually 4-5 bands in the same night.
This tv show is still going here in the UK.
Great song! Love Alice In Chains and saw them live for the first time last September
Fountain of Lamneth any day now i can feel it!
Love Hate Love live at The Moore 1990 was Layne at his very best 🔥🔥🔥
Bleed the freak is awesome live
Jools Holland was a late night English tv host. This was before Lollapalooza 93 and after they fired Mike Starr..
He's also a musician (pianist) who played in the band Squeeze. I think their biggest hit was Cool for Cats, back in the 80s.
@@Xenon0000000000001 he was in Squeeze? That’s a cool fact I did not know!
Please, please, please do Love Hate Love live at the Moore 🥹 please 🙏🏼
Man in the Box live at the Moore is fire
Moore Theater '91!!!!
Do either Man in the box or Love Hate Love live 1990 (moore theatre)
I 100% agree you need to do "Love Hate Love" live at the Moore, but also you need to react to the music video for "Bleed the Freak" because the music video is actually the live performance from the same show at the Moore and Layne's vocals are unreal.
MTV Unplugged was his final performance with the band. That was 1996.
Love Hate Love live at the Moore!! 🔥🔥
Im going my vote to Layne love is voice great one guys 🤟 dont know if you reacted to Man in the box if not IT would be a good one to check out have a good weekend ( peak Grunge 91 after nirvana came out with their album nevermind to around 95 and yes this is peak Layne )
That was a great "U GOT IT" 😃
Alice In Chains - “again” is a must!
1993, my first yr of a 17yr stretch.
What a ride
Great band.......period
Friday Tribe Day!
Layne was a badass
Layne is the best vocalist of my generation.
AiC's
🎼" them BONES! "🦴 🦴 🎶🎵
The ' Seattle Grunge scene '
Of the early 90's
R.i.P. - Layne Staley & Mike Starr
Go Braves!
⚾🧢
" DEUCES! "
✌🏻😸✌🏻
Jerry still got it because I saw him live last year at the Moore theater in Seattle on his solo tour
Back to the hard shit alriiiight 😎🤘
It’s the scream at the beginning of this song that gets me lol
Grunge is so hard
I have no idea what kept him STUCK, but i have a hunch it had to do with him not being able to move on from DEMRI's death
