- BIG changes are in store for the MDX A-Spec, and this PART 2 review bring the driving experience. Acura has fully redesigned both the exterior and the interior. The A-Spec trim brings unique new 20in wheels, exterior finishes, and interior appointments. On the inside you will find new technology. digital gauge cluster and transforming mid-row seats. I loved the look of the 2022 MDX aspec and thought I was sold. Driving it for an hour changed my mind. I felt it was a little underpowered, and didn't handle as well as I thought it would. It was also to low to the ground for me. Obviously someone else might have a totally different opinion on it. I ended up liking the Lexus GX460 a lot more.

The recent changes to the 2022 Mercedes C-Class are very nice and while the interior looks very futuristic, they replaced console buttons with a giant touchscreen.
Kudos to Acura for their use of practical buttons and bucking the trend towards greasy finger marked touchscreens, I hope people appreciate this.

Never been a Honda acura fan but looking at this is changing my mind.
Honda /Acura has some of the best engineers in the world. They lose their way for years at a time, but they're back with this MDX and the new TLX (oh my God)

Hey Joe, loved your enthusiastic review. Love this new MDX. Have one on order (advance) which should get here in early July. We are coming from a 2016 Sienna van....(which has been a great vehicle) grandparents hauling around our grandkids and elderly parents. This vehicle will do the job of family hauling BUT also is a heck of a lot of fun to drive. I’ve driven the new MDX but you also sold me with that smile on your face driving down the highway. Thanks again.
Nice review, although the A- spec is pretty much a cosmetic upgrade for almost 60k! Base model has no heated wheel or surround camera for 50k (AWD version) Bulletproof engine with a nice transmission. Add the touchpad infotainment disaster and no Hybrid option.Not a homerun overall.
Yeah the Type S is where it will be at!
I would love if Acura brought back the RLX with the new design language applied! I'm not such of a SUV guy, like cars!

@@perkhere2252 Well, without a RLX Acura is missing out of a model to compete with BMW 5 series, Lexus ES350/LC500, Mercedes E Class, Infinity, G80, etc. Also, the reason why the old RLX didn't sell was because it was outdated.
I think the center area looks too busy with so many buttons. It will take some time to get used to. The front end is handsome though.
Drove every luxury SUV and Acura for the 2022 MDX total redesign inside and out beats all the others on everything, especially price, long term quality, smooth 10 speed, many hidden unique little tidbits the competition did not thing of, comfortable seats on both sides with multi-function, storage under main shelf in rear holds at least 40 grocery bags without moving around, thoughtful turnover mats over third row seats when folded, third row is just fine, (as usual only used my last SUV third row twice, stays down for excellent storage for antique trips with wife and those dozens of Pine Bark chips from Home Depot, etc.) Always Honda/Acura have the top five star safety ratings and this for sure will shine on safety, as even the lights will empress NTHB and others. The engine has been around for many years and combined with that outstanding smooth shifting 10 speed I love driving everywhere. Got the Pearl Red and even the wife of 53 years gave it a thumbs up! So much advanced tech to learn after just three days, but I will keep on learning about all the bells and you know what until it feels like old school. In three years may trade for new design solid state battery, maybe plug-in hybrid if Honda/Acura transitions, but who knows where our country will be in three years, as the Russians just recently send us a message (hello America, we can shut down your gas to one third of your population and you can do nothing, but pay ransom, so there), and next time it may be the grid, so nothing will work, until you pony up, so-to-speak, say the Russians, Iran, China and perhaps even N.K. I guess we may be at war, so I hope to just enjoy my Pearl Red MDX for a little while!
Great review. I have the 2020 RDX Aspec and this is my next car. I almost bought the Lexus RX350 but once I drove the RDX it was a no brainer. The SH-AWD is legit, Im a mountain biker and go to the mountains every weekend my RDX takes corners better than most cars. You won't understand how good it until you test drive one.

Acura needs to have a touch screen, just like Mazda CX 9. In my opinion, that TouchPad will make driving dangerous.

My wife has the rdx 2019 and it’s easy to get use to. Once you know where everything is at you don’t have to take your eyes off the. Touching the screen your taken your eyes off the road.
A touch screen is more dangerous than a touch pad. Touch screen you have to take your eyes off the road just like a cell phone and reach for the screen.
A touch pad you just move your fingers on the pad and the screen is straight ahead. No looking at the pad. Muscle memory does the rest.. The learning curve is very low.. people need to open their minds to new technology instead of craving a dangerous touch screen. The federal regulators need to outlaw touch screens. Too many dangerous, negligent drivers are already on the roads.

Man was considering a bigger suv like a tahoe or a truck, but I might just get another mid size suv. Acura did a really good job with this one.

Same engine as my 2012 Acura tl,such a great smooth running engine.Glad they kept it for the mdx,too bad they got rid of it in the TLX.

Great review! We were thinking about a Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy but after this review we may just head to our local Acura dealer for test drive of this new MDX. I hate black/gray wheels so the A-spec trim is out for me but I love the new exterior styling and the interior looks just as up-scale as anything in its class. This must be the only vehicle in its class that has a non-touch infotainment screen. Very odd.

I'm glad lots of vehicles are doing red interior. The gloss black brings it out . I didn't see that as a younger men in the 80s 90s early 2000s. Red is my color along side black

It surprises me I like the color of the interior, minus the gloss black. Nice info screen but don’t understand how using a trackpad and knob is less distracting than touching a screen that is higher and can still see the road. I love some of the infotainment screens that go right across like Mercedes and Golf R does! Great Video!

Right off the bat, those terrible hood gaps really stick out. I assume they’ll fix it in production.
Not a fan of the hood cut line... I prefer full hoods but I can see the potential for damage.

@@RaitisRides this was on a 2022 MDX w tech FWD. A spec was in the $800’s. They only had 3 in stock. I will wait for February to hopefully better lease program comes. One thing is for sure...I want this suv. Let me tell you that 2nd row with removal bench is epic. What a smart much needed feature.
The only complaint I have is that Acura needs to have the A Spec exterior with the interior touches of the Advance Package. The Advance is supposed to offer the Full Melino Leather Seats, active dampeners, wood finishes, heated steering wheel and rear seats, the upgraded sound system, etc. I think Acura has some accessory black wheels which will add sportiness to the Advance look but I really like the blacked out trim on the tested vehicle........Okay now the big Question.........How does this compare to the 2.5 Turbo 4 GV80?
