The major problem is that their entry level car is no longer affordable to buy because dealers are putting a 45% increase on price. Their "affordable" truck went from $23K to $33K.

Where I live there's no mark up on the base model. The lariat and that we test drove had a 6k mark up. The price went from 36k to 42k. We told them that their "market adjustment" was the deal breaker. Not paying for greed. They would not come off that 6k at all..

2005 Accord non hybrid 30 mpg city and 36 mpg highway with 260k miles. I rented an Altima....not hybrid and got 42 mpg. I rented a Spark and got 40 mpg. How some cars get such great mpg and others do not I do not know. Who would think a huge Altima would get better mpg than s tiny Spark? My Mirage, a 2017 got 50 mpg mixed driving.

Here in California markups are going up to even 15k.
XL Maverick go for 30k and 33k
XLT Mavericks go between 35k and 38k
    Lariat between 36k and 43k
The wrose thing is people are actually paying those ridiculous markups. It makes absolutely not sense buying an affordable pickup truck with a 15k markup.

Drive it conservatively with the air conditioner off and you’ll get over 50 miles to the gallon. It’s hard to get out of the car and walk across the parking lot without someone flagging us down wanting to know about the this truck!!! I’m definitely content to wait a few years and hopefully let the car market settle down a little bit. If/when it does, I would look at an EV Maverick. I’m mostly retired, so I don’t need a particularly long driving range, and hopefully by then the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was passed prior to the IRA will bear fruit and there will be a greater charging network for road trips if necessary.

same, especially if it has a lifepo4 battery, like Ford says they're going to start using. Lifepo4 packs have a much longer cycle life and should last 250k+ miles in a PHEV or even longer in an EV.
They're also much safer and don't catch fire like li-ion batteries can. If a lifepo4 battery fails catastrophically, it will spew horrid smoke, but no flames and far less heat than a li-ion meltdown.

So I have mixed feelings about this. One side of me says if you're stupid enough to pay over MSRP then shame on you you get what you deserve. However, the other side of me says it's price gouging. I think I'm leaning more towards if you're stupid enough to pay over MSRP then you get what you deserve though. It just shows the financial ineptness of the person buying the vehicle for over MSRP knowing that when you drive a car off a lot it goes down and depreciates approximately 20% the second you drive it off the lot why would you pay $15,000 over MSRP it's just a stupid stupid thing to do. Best thing to do would be to put horrible reviews on the internet regarding it and take pictures of the MSRP on the window and show that the dealer is sticking it to the consumer this way people will think twice before going to the dealership and turn this hurts the dealership and puts them in check if enough people put bad reviews and refuse to pay over MSRP. Look, the bottom line is if everyone walks in and says I'm not giving you a dime over MSRP and walks out the dealership will be forced to either do that or go out of business.

I sell these at a store here in WI. Don't get me wrong, they're great trucks! The challenge we're experiencing with recalls is brutal though. Not just recalls, but also major delays in transport from factory. I'm currently assisting a guest that's waited 3 additional months to have her Maverick shipped to us after it was built. Once it finally arrived, the side curtain airbag recall was announced. Being that this is considered a "stop sale" recall, she now has to wait until Ford announces a fix which isn't expected to happen until the 1st quarter of 2023... Fun stuff!

I would only buy an electric pickup truck under these circumstances:
✔️ Costs as much to buy (new) as a comparable fully gasoline powered version.
✔️ I can charge it almost anywhere I go (gas stations are on every corner today believe it or not).
✔️ The charging time is no more than 10 minutes to get to 100% full charge.
✔️ The normal range of a "full tank" (excluding use of heat/air conditioning or towing) is at least 350 miles regardless if it's hot or cold outside.
✔️ It can tow the same weight as a comparable gasoline powered version for its size class.
If any of these things are not met, then why the hell are they building a truck that nobody asked for?? How's it supposed to replace a gasoline or diesel truck that beat it in one or more of these areas??
My take: This is a vehicle no working man that needs a truck asked for and as such it's already doomed to fail. Don't bet any money on it, you'll lose it.

Yes! I am a Ford enthusiast. I am invested into the Ford Motor Company and my wife and I drive Fords. We believe in the new CEO, Jim Farley and what he is trying to do especially with the dealerships. We are highly knowledgeable of our own Ford dealership not being as honest as they should be and the ridiculous high cost of everything they touch. Ford has been needing a wake-up call for a long time and we are pleased that change is on the horizon. I say to Jim Farley to keep to his principles and put the heat own Ford to become the great American Automobile Brand especially from the dealership angle. I’m not opposed to getting rid of bad dealerships and order cars from the factory however, we will need a tight system of getting specialist maintenance work done in local areas.😊

Mr Farley, (and previous CEOs) has squeezed the profits out of Ford vehicles for the last 8 years, so it has left the dealers no choice but to increase prices to stay in business! It would be different if we could have access to the pre-pandemic allocations. We went from 18-25 vehicles a WEEK for inventory to 4-8 a MONTH! Our dealership is selling at MSRP(minus incentives)on customer order outs, but if one becomes available for inventory then there will be a $5-$10k market adjustment, because of the lack of availability!

They design this vehicle, test uder all sorts of condition probably for a year or more, test it again maybe, it gets approval from all these departments with knowledge on it's design and engineering, then finally gets released and then all of a sudden recalls up the butt? I understand Murphy' s Law, but really these recalls couldn't have been prevented before it's release or was it more important to launch and deal with it later?

To skip through all the drawn-out script meant to drum up drama and drag out the video for 8 minutes, its an issue with the towing system. Towing packages were an extra on the 2022-2023 line, and most people are not buying the Maverick for its towing capability. Compared to the hybrids being recalled to fix issues with overheating this is a minor issue, as hybrids were the biggest demand for the 2022 model.

This is fairly old news, and the recalls were minor. The airbags inflating a few millimeters too little or too much was a ticky-tack foul that cost Ford dearly as it required all of the Mavericks made so far 70k of them, to have to have their rear airbags swapped.
The real problem with the maverick is that 2023 model run sold out in 5 days, and now we have to wait until October 2023 to order a 2024.

Glad to see Ford is combatting dealer markup on the Maverick... I mean I understand supply and demand, that dealerships are businesses and they'll want to make as much as they can on a popular vehicle. But what markups are reaching is just insane... I'm sure for what some dealers are asking you can get into a Ranger, which might be neither here-nor-there; but what Ford really has to concern themselves with is that it'll drive folks to other brands of trucks. I really like the Hyundai Santa Cruz and the Nissan Frontier (2022/2023 models). If I were looking for a small truck they'd be on my short list. Heck, you know GM is quickly working on a small truck that slots under the Colorado and they're even rumored to be thinking about relaunching a new El Camino which was the pickup car from the 60s, 70s and 80s. Ford getting the Maverick's pricing under control is about as important as any safety recall...

They could best combat it by making enough for the market desire. Maverick is a bait and switch vehicle.
By keeping supplies low but being able to say they offer a 20k truck. This is a time honored practice. Advertising a new Ford XYZ truck for $9999.95 in the paper 20 years back....only having one that base....and it sold this morning....but there are plenty other trucks over here for twice the price.

The "HUGE" problem with this anti-Ford video is that the rear brake light affects a small fraction of Maverick owners who have a 4k tow package. The every day person who wants to tow something uses an F-150. mavericks weren't primarily designed for extensive towing operations. The brake light affects 2% of vehicles which is equal to the amount of concern for the "HUGE" recall problem this video manufactured.

I tried to by a Loaded top of the line AWD with Tow Package Ford Maverick a month ago. 100% gasoline model. I was quoted close to $44k and told it would take 6 to 9 months.
The conversation ended quickly. I should have known better. Between the 70’s and the 80’s I owned 3 Fords and everyone of them was a PIA.
The sad thing is this vehicle hit my needs 100%. I just can’t allow myself to get taken by greedy dealers. I will wait Fords competition will respond. In reality I swore off Ford years ago. I just consider myself lucky I walked away.

Wow that's crazy. I ordered mine in September of 21 got confirmed on September 9th 2021. My vehicle finally arrived at the dealership on October 10th 2022. Was told me excited. Literally 30 minutes before I was leaving to go get it they called me and said they cannot release it to me at this time due to the airbag recall. Would not be until the first quarter of 23 before parts expected. You should have gotten a build date apparently yours is on hold and it might be for the airbags. They shipped mine regardless of the airbags but never informed me . They moved my bill date five times. I ordered the hybrid XL spring and bed liner co-pilot 360.

I was going to buy an electric pickup but the best they can is about 350 mile if you’re lucky on a full charge. That makes it extremely difficult to take a cross country road trip, I’ve been a bid hard Ford lover for well over 55 years in the 1970s, 80s, 90s,Ford did stupid things with the engines. Then they did dumb things with the smog systems. My 2012 F150 had engine problems ( the replaced the under warranty then an engine on a recall 😢). I’m about to go and buy a new pickup truck in 2023 I’ve looked at the Ram and the Chevy but I don’t like Japanese trucks. I hope Ford gets act together and fixes there problems. A few years ago Dodge advertised a minivan that could over 400 miles on a full charge.
