I have never been on Section 8 however, unlike other hateful humans, I do NOT agree that public housing tenants should be forced to live in such slums simply because the general public see them as less than. Not everyone on public housing has no job or education. Many have both and still can’t afford anything more than public housing and therefore, if you think any differently of them then you’re ignorant. If all of these residents were kicked out onto the streets, these cocky “tax payers” would be complaining big time over how big the homeless problem is. Every single human being deserves safe, well maintained housing.
They aren't forced into doing nothing...It's govt given shelter, unfortunately Govt dont know how to Run ANYTHING properly. This is why we dont want the Bernie's and AOCs to have anymore power or control.
When my grandfather worked there as a brick layer, they would fine you if you walked on the grass. By the time my father worked there, he told me story’s of constantly having to hide under cars to avoid being shot in the cross fire of a gang fight.
Imagine if the community stepped up and took responsibility for their own living area. I lived in a low income building for a while, I did all sorts of basic maintenance that made it significantly more livable. Then, at the same time, you have people asking cigarettes in the hallways, and leaving empty bags of McDonald's garbage. Be responsible for yourself, don't expect somebody to come and fix everything for you
@ruby-two No. One. Owes. You. Housing. See, this is why people really, really despise you. You feel not only that you’re owed something you’re not, but that it should be of the highest quality.
And ya'll this is not just NYCHA. This is also Section 8 housing with landlords that take advantage of those getting the assistance and see them as inferior and don't want to do repairs nor care about their tenants.
100% fax, can confirm. Shit I live on a street where roughly 20 houses sit, over half are rundown, not up to code, etc. all owned by the same slumlord that does the absolute bare minimum. and i unfortunately live in one of those houses.
Wow a lot of people in the comments don’t have a heart. Everyone doesn’t have the same opportunities. The playing field is not equal. A lot of people that live in the projects have been there for generations. If you start at the bottom it’s hard to see the bigger picture when you don’t have the means to change your situations. Middle class people live check to check just to survive so imagine if if your income is lower than that. It’s people out here really having to survive off $7-9 an hour for life. You can say get a better job but it’s not always easy if you don’t have a car, or childcare. People living in poverty is not always in their control. It’s sad how many people don’t have compassion for people. Ask yourself, if you lost everything today.. job home and car, no family or friends to live with, what would you do? Whatever you had to to survive and not sleep outside.
The tenants should take control. Stop paying rent. Combine your resources, hire someone to come in and remove the mold, fix the plumbing and heating, hire some painters. Form a committee and come up with a plan. These people do not care about you. Where's the mayor.
I had a sewage problem in the beginning of my pregnancy from October to December 2017 .... I had to get a cheap hotel. I took them to court and absolutely nothing was done. They did run here when I convinced the media to come
all those projects need to be knocked down and tenents should be placed into better living conditions. give them vouchers to leave nyc and have the option to move to any other state they want to.
They need to knock down these buildings. They can't keep up with them. They need to build housing n move ppl into them. Im glad i live in utah.. They help alot with housing n do yearly inspections. Why dont nyc do this?
they are too important. you demolish these type of buildings and hundreds of families get displaced. whatever replaces them will be too expensive for many of the low income families living there. housing projects arents nice to live in but they are very important, a whole lot better than being homeless
On average, NYCHA residents aren't paying rent that's equal to the value of the services that they aren't receiving. The taxpayers are paying most of their rent and utilities for them. On a human level, people should have habitable living conditions, but we need to stop pretending like from a financial perspective that people are "owed" something when they never paid for it in the first place.
I am not sure if you ever stepped foot into a NYCHA building - Some are more well maintained than others but on average it's pretty crappy housing, infested with pests, leaks, mold and not to mention the gangs, shootings and generally unsafe environment, especially for vulnerable people (elderly, families etc...). I think even the $200 / $300 per month rent is a lot of money to spend for someone who is on welfare ...
Worst. Before they would just cancel tickets acting like they fixed the problems. Now they just say tha due to covid repairs are being pushed back cause of lack of workers.
The lack of compassion, and excess of judgement and hatred in this comment section is disturbing. This is why humanity is a doomed species. It's the hateful, warmongers, and the greedy who are destroying this world not the poor. Disparities create the perfect conditions for war, and war is responsible for so much destruction, disease, death, and famine.
Mold growth is not uncommon in Public Housing complexes. It is in fact known to cause significant damage to the Lungs as well as Long term health effects. Asthma. Ect ect.
If this was a privately run building the owners would have long been sued into oblivion. What people warned when projects were being built has come to fruition: the government has almost no accountability for these buildings and they’ve become hellholes due to disrepair.

He's basically making the same statements I've been making for years. The deplorable conditions in my apartment almost literally killed my youngest son at the age of 5yrs old, how now has developed asthma. There is more that I would like to say and can say, but I would like to say it to the right people or person.
Keep pushing! You shouldnt have to leave your home. If you pay rent they obligated to make sure the living conditions are up to par. I hope yall can get together and sue the city and get what you deserve.
indeed especially when he said peopel are trying to get out of poverty where is the encouragement? this sentiment is what peopel should focus on and ecnourage. i hope more attention is brought to the living conditions and their case
Most NYCHA Housing complexes have been sold to the enterprises and corporations that are using tactics to get rid of the tenants there, because of the past how the tenants torn down their complexes and put the agency in a 2. billions deficit. I like what you tenants are doing, because in the end the new landlord will be putting a eviction notice downstairs where you live if you bring it to their attention. The new landlord is there 247 to get rid of you all in that complex. It sad, put it's happening, because of money.

It's nice to see a brother as tenant association president. This interview was 2018. I wonder how you guys are doing at Redfern houses these days? God bless you.
IT'S NOT JUST a PROBLEM IN FAR ROCKAWAY HOUSES. IT'S A HUGE PROBLEM IN NYCH ACROSS THE WHOLE ENTIRE CITY OF NEW YORK. REPAIRS FALLING ON DEF EAR BUT WHEN IT COMES TO RENT THEY ACT WITH THE QUICKNESS AND THE DRUG DEALERS LIVING IN PUBLIC HOUSES IS ANOTHER ISSUE . THEY ACT OLIVIOUS TOWARD IT.
As a community housing units everyone should come together give half of they're rent to make the repairs then when they take u to court for it say u had to take care of the repairs on yall own.
@Keshona Pearson The suggestion is for people who can afford to take partial rent payments and fix what is taking them to long to get too. Each housing project structure is different and alot of repair tickets get put in some people cant even get things fix til the following year or more. To every problem there is a solution.
@Keshona Pearson The solution given is not an "easy fix" to the problem but a solution that can be used. The internal structure and set up of Project Housing goes beyond a higher up coming in to change it. If the people in this 2020 election for example came out in numbers to vote for the president they wanted to see in there then I believe the same would have to be done for anything else. Anyone living in housing projects would have to come together as a collective to see change.
You need to see 868 Amsterdam Ave, between 102 St and 103 St, that place are out control. I'm tired to call and give complaints and no body do one thing.
I lived in the projects before With my bd & My Daughter & it was Regular but the only bad thing was that's it had mold just like that's in our bathroom mind you I have Asthma and I was pregnant with my daughter they paint over it but it was still come back and the house and things even our clothes had a bad smell to it😞😪Cuz of the mold we had to move out within a year it got bad😑Good luck tho
Thank you for exposing this . Nobody should have to live this way. This definitely didn’t happen overnight and it’s an ongoing problem all over . There needs to be accountability. This is beyond wrong.
you've lived in public housing .for 30+ years????? if the people that lived in these buildings would take care of them.... then maybe the city would fix them.
Imagine being in a dire situation like this. feeling embarrassed and less-then your whole life, all because you had the audacity to be born into poverty and anytime you try to reach out for help or do the right thing; you are met with people who respond like you… “It’s your fault for being poor “…You think they should fix the roof the ventilation and the plumbing? I know what you think you are saying, but isn’t part of taking care of things reporting issues to maintenance as they arise?
No other landlord in NYC could get away with those living conditions for tenants. I truly feel for those tenants who have to pay for that type of service.
I once said as I was leaving public housing, “I would rather take my chances in the private housing market with a section 8 voucher.” Do you think I regret saying that now?
I been trying to move out for approximately 20 years but I'm given a fake negative references to all potential landlords and Housing staff for harassment, damaging lies and slanders. I'm in N.C. Durham Housing Authority supposedly section 8 I'm over charge rent. I've refuse to give rent hoping they will take me to court for eviction: then I can speak my Truth. Naples Terrace will not do it. What now should I do?
How much is the rent that they are Payo??? In New York rents are pretty high! Wonder what the rent is to live and staying there ... I’m sure there is options either to stay or find a decent place to live depending on what you rent looks like
I am writing from the perspective of a neutral third party simply using what you have said and this is my take 1. the buildings are old so you cannot expect the buildings to function as new 2. I hear a lot of excuses from the non-elderly 3. It appears that these people are looking for someone to take care of them 4. Lots of excuses and looking for people to do stuff for them 5. MOVE
They will try and make it look like your nasty- throw stuff behind your stove, refrig, and couches, under bed- wearing you out to clean. Wipe stuff on walls, strip shine from cabinets.
They spray your clothes with staff water, go in your refrigerator. Slot of vile nastiness going on. I was going to put a water filter on, and unscrewed it to find out someone had put three green rocks, looking like titty bowl toilet cleaner in the faucet
Why is there a fight ? Mayor Diblassio and ALL the Demonrats love you all. This is a PERFECT example that you're being used. On the other hand.. 1984 to present ?Homey it's time to go out on your own and stop living on assistance.
@Andrew Bittle STHU. It's easy to say, "get out on your own" behind a computer screen with your fat fingers. Instead of condemning how about uplifting? How do YOU plan to help? If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Now go eat fatso & STFU.
They break the drawers to your dresser that they roll out that you can't shut them. Chip your dishes, that pins out of your knifes. Use other tenants around you to watch you, and scrutinize you.
Idk why they don't sue these people and before someone says they don't have the money for a lawyer if you call around you can find some that will do it for free or when your award money from the housing the lawyer can take a legal fee idk I'd be sueing them really you guys could make alot of Money doing it.what they are doing is illigal but they know know one will do shit about it the tenants. I hope at least someone actually reads this comment and takes my advice and actually look for someone and maybe mention when you win ur case you will give some to the lawyer. But you have to be really consistent and fight for ur rights there is also legal aid to help also it's your rights as a tenant fuck that shit.
i grew up in the projects Virginia and Maryland and Washington d.c. so ie agree that the housing authority needs to change however it starts with the tenants first and when that starts only then can the people at the housing authority can do what needs to be done and know this is as black people we are supposed to be strong in the lord at all times this and what the world is experiencing is truly a test of faith not just black or white but all people GOD bless us all.
A Democratic resident association should be the ones gathering the rent , money security and management. People that actually live there. The red tape and city corruption is the problem
People often talk about paying rent but they are often subsidized renters. So they pay a tiny fraction of the true rental cost. These projects are chronically underfunded because their upkeep was supposed to be supported by the rental income generated by working tenants. Unfortunately the program shifted to focus on those in DEEP POVERTY who are unable to pay even "affordable" market rate rent. With mostly the profoundly poor as tenants there is no residual rental income to finance building upkeep. Over time the buildings are neglected and fall into disrepair. This is a result of democrats mandating we help the very poor and not funding it properly.
I have never been on Section 8 however, unlike other hateful humans, I do NOT agree that public housing tenants should be forced to live in such slums simply because the general public see them as less than. Tenants in the projects and homeless people use the stair wells for sex drugs and Tiolet bowls. Hope your elevators work.
How much is the rent that they are Payo???
In New York rents are pretty high!
Wonder what the rent is to live and staying there ...
I’m sure there is options either to stay or find a decent place to live depending on what you rent looks like
The plumbing is something else
Public housing is not forever to live there is just for u to get on ur feet
Where is NYCHA at? What part of new York is this at?
If it's all they can afford (at 800 a month?), then what?
Their some evil bastards, use security guards to mock you, brag about their state of the art sirvalanced cameras, they use to watch you leaving.
I lived in far Rockaway for 32 and counting
Anyone who will sell you for a dollar , pizza, or food bank.
I am writing from the perspective of a neutral third party simply using what you have said and this is my take
1. the buildings are old so you cannot expect the buildings to function as new
2. I hear a lot of excuses from the non-elderly
3. It appears that these people are looking for someone to take care of them
4. Lots of excuses and looking for people to do stuff for them
5. MOVE
some people think they should live like kings and queens at the cost of others
Is the building still being used?
how much is the rent threre?
It only costs giving up on life
1/3 of your gross income or if you make over a certain amount you pay "flat rent"
A third or quarter of your income, whatever that may be.
Wow how old is this video
Has it gotten better?
Nope!
I tired to get the news company to come in.
Honestly I scene where the knock it down and rebuild it and it 5 years the new place is just like it was before
I saw two people being paid by someone , they were carrying stagg water, in a garbage can,- was going to out it in the wash machine
This is not the people. This is mismanagement by nycha
So sad
Pay attention
Who's plan😲!!!
This is a disgrace😣
They will try and make it look like your nasty- throw stuff behind your stove, refrig, and couches, under bed- wearing you out to clean. Wipe stuff on walls, strip shine from cabinets.
How can they enter your apartment without your consent? Can't you add another lock to keep them out?
Maybe it’s you that’s nasty!
They spray your clothes with staff water, go in your refrigerator. Slot of vile nastiness going on. I was going to put a water filter on, and unscrewed it to find out someone had put three green rocks, looking like titty bowl toilet cleaner in the faucet
They don't pay that much rent. They don't fix stuff themself.
Some pay 1,000 bucks a month
You’re so misinformed... can I get that cheap rent you idiots talk about or does it go by income?!
@@1987jenmarie It goes by income
Why is there a fight ? Mayor Diblassio and ALL the Demonrats love you all.
This is a PERFECT example that you're being used.
On the other hand.. 1984 to present ?Homey it's time to go out on your own and stop living on assistance.
@Andrew Bittle STHU. It's easy to say, "get out on your own" behind a computer screen with your fat fingers. Instead of condemning how about uplifting? How do YOU plan to help? If you're not a part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Now go eat fatso & STFU.
Andrew Bittle
NYC is too damn expensive ! No where to go except the streets
They break the drawers to your dresser that they roll out that you can't shut them. Chip your dishes, that pins out of your knifes. Use other tenants around you to watch you, and scrutinize you.
i used to live in this hood shit greezy boi! i stayed in Edgemere tho, but the fern litty! Far rock stand up!
Did edge mere have these same problems?
What the fuck is Warnuckles III trying to say? I say to him: YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP!
@@MoneyOverFame definitely
fuck redfern and fuck Far rock
This ain't nothing! Go live in some army barracks on fort bragg, this is nice compared to on base living.
Paramedics come here too often. Some people have died suddenly. Water in the city is dangerous in faucet.
Manegmrnt sneak in your aptment searching in your things.
Housing gave their maintance workers a corkey to stick in your sealnders to come in without keys.
Only if you don’t have your own top lock. Are you people so poor you can’t get one shame!!!
i grew up in the projects Virginia and Maryland and Washington d.c. so ie agree that the housing authority needs to change however it starts with the tenants first and when that starts only then can the people at the housing authority can do what needs to be done and know this is as black people we are supposed to be strong in the lord at all times this and what the world is experiencing is truly a test of faith not just black or white but all people GOD bless us all.
Child bye they sell infested homes over ad over again.
A Democratic resident association should be the ones gathering the rent , money security and management. People that actually live there.
The red tape and city corruption is the problem
LOL.
