    It was PAINFUL to watch the TOS Connie get destroyed both times.
    By the way AFT torpedoes for the TOS Connie IS cannon. Remember the 2 part Enterprise episode "In A Mirror Darkly" where they were in the Mirror Universe and they got the Defiant from the Tholians. The Defiant fired AFT torpedoes. So it definitely is cannon. We never actually saw the Enterprise fire aft torpedoes but I assumed she had them anyways.

    • @getreal6124
      @getreal6124 Рік тому +1

      actually, the 1701 could not fire aft torpedos. See the TOS ep "Elaan of Troyius," where they had to pivot at warp 2 and catch the Klingons flying past them to get them into their forward arcs and then hit them aft and aft/starboard quarter.

    • @Sephiroth144
      @Sephiroth144 Рік тому +2

      @@getreal6124 But was that because they didn't have Aft Torps, or because they wanted to get the Klingon's Aft sections targeted?
      And there's the question of if the Constitution-Class (Enterprise included) just had weapon systems we didn't see in use; if we keep it to pure TOS and what we can see, there's a (paired) torpedo launcher on the saucer, six dual-phaser banks (top and bottom, fore/starboard/port), and they couldn't do anything to a ship behind them. It seems a little odd to think they left the entire rear arc of the ship unarmed... The Connie from Enterprise (aka, that other Defiant) seems to elaborate on the weapons that we didn't see, but that make a little more sense to have been there the whole time.

    • @michaeldexter2544
      @michaeldexter2544 Рік тому +3

      @@Sephiroth144 Yeah, if you listen carefully to the background dialogue, you can occasionally hear someone mentioning the "aft phaser banks," so it would seem that the TOS Enterprise definitely had aft-firing weapons. [And yeah, if we take "Enterprise" as canon, then it explicitly shows that the Defiant had aft-firing torpedoes, so presumably the Enterprise did as well.]

    • @Sephiroth144
      @Sephiroth144 Рік тому +4

      @@michaeldexter2544 As well as explicitly showing those Connie Aft Phasers
      (And pretty sure Enterprise counts as canon- maybe not someone's headcanon, but actual canon, yup. =p)

    • @getreal6124
      @getreal6124 Рік тому +2

      @@michaeldexter2544 "Enterprise" is NOT canon--which is defined as anything Roddenberry approved of directly and explicitly. I originally thought Voyager was not canon, but it was documented Roddenberry approved that on his deathbed. He did NOT approve "Enterprise" and it was well-documented he NEVER authorized prequels for either a series or a movie. You're welcome to read any of the Starlog mags around the time of Star Trek V, because that's why he fired Harve Bennett, who wanted an Academy prequel with a younger Kirk and Spock (this became the modified approach for "Starfleet Academy" from Interplay). Canon is the first captain of the Enterprise was Robert April and there was never any "NX" class before the NX-2000 Excelsior in Star Trek III. During the Earth-Romulan War 100 years previous to "Balance of Terror," you could quote Spock as saying "no enemy nor ally ever saw the other because no ship-to-ship visual communication was possible" and it was fought with "primitive atomic weapons" on the ships and when you watch "Court Martial," the then-Federation ships had atomic matter piles (specific ship was SS Republic). So that completely proves "Enterprise" was not canon. It was lazy writing to make a very fast buck; had the showrunners simply asked the fans, the fans would have done all the research for them and helped them write a prequel that avoided a lot of the laziness and pitfalls. The biggest giveaway was when they introduced "photonic torpedos," which the tech did NOT exist for until the TNG era, at least 175 years after when "Enterprise" would have taken place.

    Both ships are clearly not tuned the same for their era. It's probably the Discovery that turned out being too strong.
    That said, even if both ships had hull, shields and weapon potency at the same level, it's not improbable that Discovery would still slightly edge out the Constitution with firing arcs and aft torpedoes.
    Whereas, with Pike's Discovery-version of the Constitution-class, you have a ship that's clearly more tuned with that import of the Discovery. Therefore, you don't come as short, and have good odds of winning as a human player.

Thank goodness we got the constitution class instead” they went with that one for discovery 😂 does anyone remember the first look at discovery’s cgi model in 2017? Most of the comments were calling it ugly 😆

    It appeared to me you could have defeated the Discovery with the 1701 had you flown it more above or below them, staying away as much as possible from their forward arc. That second time you can pretty close and hung in there much longer.

    I know there is a lot of disdain for SNW/Discovery enterprise but I personally love it, and I think it fits perfectly as an evolution to the NX-01. With that being said I would also support a cannon "refit" to the original series ship but making it a more modern/futuristic version. I've seen custom CGI versions of the TOS Enterprise that's actually pretty slick but doesn't go against the Original design.

      Some people say it bends the lore of Star Trek too much and some people say it's too progressive but I think those people just don't understand Star Trek. The point of Star Trek has always been to show humanity overcoming its bigotry. I understand the lore complaint because, especially in the first 2 seasons, it was very different from the original Star Trek though I think that's just because, well, the original series was made in the 60s and Disco was made 57 years later. That's quite the leap in filming technology. I wish people would understand that and just appreciate it for what it is. Anyway, sorry for the Ted Talk, it's just nice to see someone who at least doesn't despise discovery.
