Norway is one of my favourite ESC countries - so many great songs of varying genres. A monster like me’ has such a great songwriting approach, blows me away every time I listen to it. I still wonder 21 years later whether Eric Carmen’s lawyers ever called up Haldor Laegried though, it’s musical theft 😂

Somebody likes Norway a bit. I think I'll join you there. They are so consistently good. To the point, that when Norway have a bad year, it really sticks out.
We're pretty much agreed in most cases. There are a few songs where I find my opinion to be at least two tiers away from yours so I'll focus on these first.
2022 - You already know this one! I just don't think we're going to find a middle ground. I think I'd have this in the top two tiers. Probably the second but I'd be closer to moving it up than moving it down. Love it musically, love it on-stage...it's one of my favourite Norwegian entries.
2015 - I think this is really great and you have it in the best of all time. I can see the argument but there are things about it that just prevents this from getting there for me. I just don't find Debrah's performance convincing. There's a lack of confidence in how she holds herself on-stage that just doesn't fit the song and I don't think vocally she's at the same standard that Mørland is. I also don't pick up on enough chemistry between them. Songwriting though, it's really good.
2016 - The entire issue with this song is that transition into the chorus and how different the chorus is from what's come before it. It....actually interests me and doesn't jar me as it should. I like both parts and the abruptness of how they switch up, I actually find that it works. I think it's "really great", maybe...even close to "fantastic" if I'm feeling kind.
2007 - One of my last places in this year and the worst Norwegian song of the post-2000 era. It's awful, it's irredeemable and it needs to go away. Such a bad idea to begin with and terrible execution every step of the way. It should be Norway's one and only "What Happened Here?"
2008 - I don't know if I need it dropped down one tier or two but it's too high for me in yours. I really like it. I think it's great but you've got it just too high for my taste. It's a solid, Leann Rimes type song that I could hear on the radio.
I want to move up 2018 and 2020 a tier. I just think they're both more than solid. THYWAS is a perfect example of having an idea in mind of what you're wanting to do and then going out and doing it. This was one of the highlights in 2018 for me just because of the showmanship involved and the song, for what is, is a really good example of those kinda...Sesame Street songs to encourage kids to do stuff. It's really great. "Attention" is one of those that looked like a Eurovision winner in its national final and gave you those moments but once every other song had been selected that year, it started to move down a bit (a bit like Brividi tbh). It was a bit of a big fish in a small pond moment, I think. Your criticisms are fair and I agree with them but not enough to keep it from "Really Great".
Otherwise, we're in agreement on almost everything. 2003 is a wonderful composition. Can sing it back in full now and it's been almost 20 years. Really great songwriting. 2004 is solid but nothing much more than that. It's kinda harmless. 2005 is brilliant and a real template for how rock entries should approach Eurovision. 2006 could've been more than it was but is still a lovely bit of world-building and looks beautiful on stage. 2010 is nice because it's the sort of music I like but not done in any sort of special way so agreed. 2011 isn't for me and I'll be braver and say that it's not done particularly well either. I think the artist is better than the song. I don't like 2012 much. I think it was going for a kinda Eric Saade-clone thing and just missed the point completely. It's a "I like it but..." because it is catchy and was something on-stage.
I don't like 2017 as much as you do but it's definitely excellent and a top ten song in that year. 2021, you talked a little negatively about it but then put it in really great...so I'm fine with that. It's a borderline top ten song that year for me too. It's incredibly moving and is the sort of thing that would work on the radio now. It looks a bit weird though.
2009, 2013 and 2014 deservedly acknowledge by you as some of the best ESC songs ever. No complaints there.
    My top five:
    1. Alexander Rybak - Fairytale (2009)
    2. KEiiNO - Spirit In The Sky (2019)
    3. Subwoolfer - Give That Wolf A Banana (2022)
    4. Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love (2013)
    5. Carl Espen - Silent Storm (2014)

Norway is by far my favorite country in Eurovision Song Contest. They’ve sent so many amazing songs!
My absolute favorite entry from Norway is ”I’m not afraid to move on” from 2003. It’s one of my top. 5 all time favorite entries from Eurovision.
I love how the song flows from start to finish. It really grabs me as a listener and takes me on a journey both musically and lyrically, even though the lyrics might not be that creative.
Jostein feels like the perfect artist for this song. He performs the song with so much honesty and his voice suits the song very well.
Overall an amazing song. One of the greatest entries of all time, if you ask me.
There’s something about Norway and sending ballads to Eurovision that often seems to work very well, ’cause ”Silent storm” and ”A monster like me” are also among my favorite entries from Norway. Carl, Debrah and Mørland are great singers and they did great performances of their songs. Both songs are very well arranged and lyrically amazing. ”Silent storm” is my second place from 2014 and ”A monster like me” is my winner from 2015!
(Speaking of ”A monster like me”… I’m very excited to hear the song that Mørland has written for Eesti Laul 2023!)
”In my dreams” is also one of my favorite entries from Norway in Eurovision. It’s vocally perfect, the instrumental is awesome and I really like watching the performance as well. I have a very nostalgic realtion to this kind of music, so that can also be a part of why I like this song so much. It’s my winner from 2005!

Don't usually like ballads but I love Silent Storm - Carl sings I feel it and want to hug him, he has so much soul. 2014 was an annus mirablis for ballads - at least three really good ones - the winner, Armenia and this.

Norway is such a powerhouse! Most of their entries are perfect! I have to point out though, "Grab the moment" is one of those songs that i really can not stand, like at all! And just by comparing with the rest of the Fantastic row, i dont think it fits there.
Also, hot take, I enjoy so much Icebreaker! Those clashing, different melodies create something very interesting to my ears!
Anyway Norway is pure Eurovision joy

As an American I had a very limited idea of what Eurovision really was - I assumed it all to be extremely typical Europop (in the line of Cascada and Caramelldansen) and thought I wasn't interested... until an Australian friend was commenting on the guy who just won, so I begrudgingly decided to check it out.
I'll never forget those first few seconds of Fairytale when I watched them for the first time. :) The fiddle, the dancers, the background scenery as the stars-on-strings descended into place... My jaw was on the floor - I didn't think music could sound like that, or that such a song that was EXACTLY my type of music could exist! It became my favorite song ever (still is!), and started my rapid fall into the Eurovision Zone, culminating in writing my senior history thesis about it 5 years later.
Norway's had its ups and downs in ESC but it's still my "bias country" to this day. Spirit in the Sky was probably my favorite song of the '10s too! MGP 2010 was my first national final, too - and so My Heart Is Yours became the first song to ever suffer from "i was cheering for something else" bitterness. :P (RIP Synk Eller Svøm!!)

Norway is really a force to be reckon! I love a lot of of songs of them, the only one I wouldn't put among the greatest is 2009, but still is a fantastic effort, and Alexander Rybak is really charismatic. My favorites have to be 1995, 2014 and 2015. These ones make me weep like a little baby! Again a lovely video!

Oh Norway… How many golden entries, no wonder why you ranked them so high. Absolutely one of my favorite ESC Countries, along with Italy and Sweden.
Nocturne? Best ESC entry of all time, to me it’s beyond the competition. A true miracle.
Grab the Moment? So dope. Such a great electro track, really among my greatest.
Hold on, be Strong? Three minutes of utter enjoyment, you kinda wish it doesn’t end. Maria one of the most charismatic singers and performers I think in Eurovision.
Fairytale and Spirit in the Sky? Simply iconic, untouchable I’d say.
In my Dreams and Alvedansen? A very underrated but remarkable sequence for Norway.
And of course, the most remarkable sequence, Silent Storm and A Monster Like Me. Imagine sending these entries in back to back years and not entering the Top-5.
However, from my perspective, even Norway has its ‘’What Happened Here?’’.
First and foremost, the 2007 one. What on earth is a latin song with a Spanish title has to do with Norway in ESC? And If I were to say, in such a cheesy and dated manner.
And also, 2018. I would never understand what motivated a legend like Alexander Rybak jeopardize his fame with an overly cringy, stupid and lackluster song about writing a song, when in fact it’s probably one of the worst written songs of the decade. And the irony of talking about the same man who came 1st with one of the best winner songs ever. Ooof, it’s a lot to take.
Great video once again, now looking forward to Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey!

What a great way to start the day! I pretty much agree with almost everything you said here!
My personal favourite Norwegian song is the 1993 one(the first one you ranked), storytelling songs are my weakness, it's so captivating, the lyrics are great, and because im Greek, listening to bouzouki(which is mostly played in greek songs) in a Norwegian song out of nowhere it makes it even more emotional for me(Greece gave Norway 12 points that year which is pretty cool that Greece really appreciated it),the accordion sounds amazing especially in the chorus, also the fact that the song was written and composed by the singer's father it's just chef's kiss lmao I love everything about this submission
Also really really happy you put Hold on Be strong on the Among the greatest category, such an amazing and inspiring song, it's my winner for 2008
Your videos are so addicting, listening to your thoughts on our favourite show is always so much fun, can't wait for the other countries! Take care:)

Thank you once again for an interesting sunday moment! As a Norwegian, I was looking forward to this, and I made my own list to see how we correspond.
I thought I was kind of biased in my list, putting so many songs towards the top category. But your ranking is equal and better then mine for many songs. F.ex. I have only 3 songs in the top category, and I have 1 in the bottom (the 2001 effort).
I think there is only ome song that I have put higher than you, "Alvedansen" from 2006. I simple love this song, and it's in my top category.

Norway can be pretty hit/miss for me, but they do have a few of my all-time favourites in there - those being 1995, 2005, 2014 and 2019. In My Dreams in particular is right up my alley and my personal winner for 2005 (although Croatia, Moldova and Hungary are pretty close). Silent Storm just makes me emotional every time. Norway's up there for best Eurovision countries, but not quite there for myself personally.

Norway - our neighbours! Neighbours support each other, but I’m going to be honest here! Norway is OVERALL (because God knows there are exceptions) a great country in ESC :)
1993: Gosh I love this. Her soft vocals, the greek-inspired music, it’s just feels so sad. What I don’t like is that the audience clap in the wrong rhythm. But the song - the song is put in ”Fantastic”. No doubt.
1994: Can’t remember at all. Bad sign. So I can’t put it anywhere. But obviously not a favorite.
1995: 1995 was a great year in ESC. But I don’t think Norway was a worthy winner. I prefer Turkey, Spain, Denmark and France. But it’s not bad, just overrated. ”Solid”.
1996: I like ”Bettan”. But I don’t like her voice in this actually. It’s as if it’s uncomfortably high for her. So… ”not for me”.
1997: Nah. This deserved the nul point more than amazing Portugal
