The Game Awards in 2023 really showed how thinly veiled appreciation and concern actually is for developers and games as a whole. The pacing was horribly off to the point they were rushing industry legends such as Eiji Aonuma in favor of talking about games with zero gameplay to show, seeking validation from Hollywood celebrities, and for Hideo Kojima and Jordan Peele to "pleasure" each other metaphorically on stage. I understand that far fewer people would watch if there were no announcements, but a balance must be struck. TGA certainly needs changes if it truly claims to be looking out for the industry and the medium.

True. Most celebrities don't add much to the show. This year made it feel like it was heavily centered on them with less cringe but less appreciation for the winners. No hate to Jordan Peele but we didn't need to see someone walk silently on stage for like 20 seconds before speaking anything.

I guess The Game Awards felt better and to the point compared to last year. Rip Spiderman 2 though and winners barely received time to deliver speeches. My Step 2 still stands 100% even if its only a few mins.

Please stop talking about octopath traveler II nothing deters me from a game more than someone who won’t stop talking about it you might think it’s one of the best games ever made however the vast majority might not echo those thoughts. On top of that you do a bad job at hiding your biases for example repeatedly bringing up rpgs that should have won rather than what had won that year one final suggestion try other genres and stop trashing on fps games.

When we live in a gaming world where Sea of Stars is championed over Octopath Traveler 2, there's something wrong. Sea of Stars is a shallow, overrated experience. Octopath is superior to it in practically every way: graphics, characterization, story, combat, music... yet Sea of Stars gets the recognition.
It shouldn't. Yes, it looks lovely, but beyond that it has incredibly shallow characters, limited combat, a predictable story that forces Garl down your throat ("Garl's the bestest ever! You MUST love him!") and music that I don't even remember - even after platinuming the game!
Contrast that with Octopath 2, which looks just as lovely, but features far more robust combat, better exploration, more fully fleshed-out characters, gorgeous music, and story after story after story that goes in unexpected places.
To me it's no contest, Octopath 2 is a superior experience... yet it's getting snubbed.

Im still interested in the game but yeah, I hear story and combat is flawed. I feel that because Yasunori Mitsuda is a guest composer, a lot of ppl hopped onto that game for popularity. But Octopath 2 is just something so special and Yasunori Nishiki really knocked it out of the park with the music, especially day and night themes.

Octopath Traveler 2 got snubbed HARD. It's one of the best games I've played in years: no bugs, no DLC, fantastic graphics, fun gameplay and exploration. While I'm on the topics of games that got snubbed, I really liked Bomb Rush Cyberfunk and Pizza Tower, but not as many people seem to be talking about BRC as much as I had hoped, and Pizza Tower didn't even win an award at the (rigged) Game Awards.
