$5 for 2 gallons of milk in California from a half gallon of half and half at Costco. It’s like the fat free version in taste in my opinion. Just perfect 🤩 at 2 carbs a cup. 😮The pitcher recommended was also purchased and it really is industrial. Reminds me of the soda pitchers at mountain mikes back in the day. • @notinavacuum5966

I do this all the time. Even before keto I would often do this for recipes because a) I didn’t buy milk because it goes bad too fast, and b) I prefer the extra fat in my cooking and baking because the taste and texture is better to me. The only think I would say is that I think there are fewer milk proteins in heavy cream, so if you water it down too much you will notice it when drinking. Also, heavy cream in blended iced drinks will essentially separate into butter, essentially causing your drink to split into water and fatty foam. I also personally don’t like the mouthfeel.

I feel like lactose-free milk would be a perfect solution if they didn’t sub in all the extra sugars! Frankly, it surprises me there are so few options out there. Even forgetting those of us on the keto diet, I feel like there are enough people with diabetes out there that it would be worth accounting for in the market.

It's a 1:4 ratio, so no matter what size you can get (in oz or ml) just do 1 part half-and-half (single cream in the UK) to 4 parts filtered water to do this recipe. As whole milk is usually 4% fat, this recipe is 1% fat, which is quite a bit more than any skim milk (usually around 0.1-0.3%).

    • @williammcgonagall3328

My concern is for diabetics who go into ketoacidosis. I don’t know if they are the same. But it people can possibly can…the benefits of milk are numerous. First osteoporosis. I’m not on medication for my hips. The ONLY reason I don’t keep milk in the house is because I’ll turn into a milkalcoholic (it’s the same alcoholic…you’re simply addicted to milk!)

Heavy cream isn’t truly zero carbs. Hard lesson learned but it’s on the FDA access website here…
      www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?fr=101.9&SearchTerm=nutrition%20label
      Which states…
If a serving contains less than 1 gram, the statement "Contains less than 1 gram" or "less than 1 gram" may be used as an alternative, or if the serving contains less than 0.5 gram, the content may be expressed as ZERO.
Heavy cream is typically 1 Tbs per serving so likely heavy cream is “at least” 0.5 carb per 1 tablespoons MEANING
1 cup heavy cream “8 carbs”
plus 2 cups of water “zero carbs”
is actually 2.6 net carbs per cup.

A2 milk might work for you. Most of the cows in the USA are A1 cows (A1 is a type of protein.) I used to teach nutrition cooking classes and when A2 milk first became available I asked for volunteers who had digestive issues with milk to try the A2. There were probably a dozen people who tried it and none of them had digestive issues. I asked at the next class. The milk protein of A1 might be the issue for you. Unfortunately, you'd have to try it and possibly have digestive issues if that isn't the case. There is a company called A2 that sells the milk in grocery stores and they make ice cream and cheese now. There are other brands also using A2 cows so do some research if you're interested.

@@DavidSmith-vz9uu Yes, A2 milk is expensive. My grocery store sells it for $4.49/1/2 gallon so $9.00 gallon. If it isn't affordable it could be used just as a test to see if the digestion issue is because of A1. Goat and sheep milk and cheese and yogurt are A2 if that is easier to find/try.

Goat milk is high carb though. The cheese is about the same as cow's cheese. I use plant based milk and goat and sheep cheese.

@@rochelles.8387 Oh okay yeah I actually did just look up the price just after I asked you how much A2 milk cost so I was practically spot on. Lol but thank you for this information, I will definitely have to try it sometime and see if it helps me as an experiment. I used to drink more than a glass of the regular a1 milk a day which is probably too much for anyone ideally. I was addicted to milk, I heard that milk also has opioid compounds in it that makes it addictive, just like gluten in wheat has which also causes addiction to wheat.

I'm on the autism spectrum and I would be able to tell the difference because regular whole milk has more sugar than the 2gram of sugar milk you made because the taste of sugar is terrible to my mouth and a sensory problem for me

      Actually no.

@@victoriasketokitchen I figured it out on Cronometer using 16 oz. Horizon organic heavy whipping cream and 6 cups of water to make 8 servings and it said it would be 1.9gm carbs per 8 oz. glass. It might be different with different brands of heavy cream. Total and net carbs are the same since there is no fiber. BTW
