So, being an older person, I was going to university when this yacht was built, and had a job at a swank (expensive) yacht club in a suburb of NYC. Some of the richest people in the world live in NYC, yet at that time, there were almost no motor yachts of this size plying the waters of Long Island Sound. Wow, I could so live on that beauty i really love the vintage aspects and the mid century feel of the salon. Thank you for showing us this lovely vessel.
I work for the company that makes the electronic controls on this vessel and many others I have seen on your channel. Thank you for bringing attention to the "Emergency Backup Panel". We are one of the very few who manufacture electronic controls that have such a feature. The backup panel truly bypasses the rest of the control system and speaks directly to the engines and transmissions on the vessel. We are the OEM for several companies including Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel and MTU.
Fairform Flyer is a Huckins model name for a series of yachts. As you may be aware, Huckins built PT Boats during WW2. The hulls were built out of triple planked mahogany and marine plywood. Until the 1970s Huckins boats were built of wood and they changed to fiberglass and foam cored fiberglass during the 1970s.
I remember dishwashers and garbage disposals in a house in Washington, DC in 1963, and they didn't appear to be new. The dishwasher had a handle that looked like a dogging latch.
Love you to young people. I get a chuckle when you talk about something being old, like a refrigerator of garbage disposal. I was born in Miami in 1940 when places like the Grove were sleepy fishing towns. My dad commercial fished so I was on a boat at the ripe old age of two weeks. I remember the iceman bringing ice for the icebox 2 or 3 times a week. Boats have come a long way since those days. We would have thought you were nuts if you told us that you could program your boat to go to the islands and it would steer itself and all you had to do was maybe make a few corrections. Keep the videos coming us "old" guys love em. 😍
Haha come on separate beds on an 80's boat? Ricky and Lucy were on tv a few decades earlier. Separate bed because the v-drive access was in the middle of cabin. I would experiment with possibly some hydraulic struts to get a king size in there and still maintain drive access.
Interesting , Thank You . Another Well designed Classic that has aged really well . An interesting well designed engine room . As always I want acess to the engine room from inside. The name is interesting
I saw this when it came out, but I didn't know this boat was built in Jacksonville, FL, just on the other side of town from me. They developed their unique hull design in the 1930s and used it for two squadrons of PT boats they built in WWII. "Fairform Flyer" is their brand name, so it's on all of their boats. Company was founded in 1928 and is currently run by the founder's granddaughter.
Great yacht tour. If you're old enough, those twin beds in the owners suite we call Desi and Lucy beds. From the TV show I Love Lucy. AKA Birth Control Beds. Also that fan dangling by the wire on the flybridge is a real trendsetter fashion statement! Thanks! 😃
Fairform Flyer is the Huckins name for the classic design and construction of the hull. Note the PT boat like lines, as Huckins was a builder of training PT boats during WW II. Her current name afaik is "Seabound." She's very fast with CAT C-18s and a massive fuel tank.
That would be a wonderful yatch to update while keeping the vintage vibes. I couldn't imagine how much it would cost. I know it was more expensive renovating an older house trying to save and repair the original parts, over just buying brand new. I love the stately expanse of it all instead of all cramed together using very knook and cranny. 😂
For some reason I really like this style. Not pretentious. It just say you are who you are! Will you still be producing tour videos once you start chartering your yacht?
Guys don’t worry about loud mouths!! They are just jealous as hell!! Look I wish I could own a yacht but I can’t but getting to see you two go through the entire process, is really entertaining. I wish you good fortune and safe cruising all the way. I’m getting anxious to see the tour video of “ADAMAS” Yippee for you guys!! That is BEYOND cool that she’s almost done. ✌️❤️🇺🇸😎
When was the garbage disposal invented? 1927! From Wikipedia - The garbage disposal unit was invented in 1927 by John W. Hammes, an architect working in Racine, Wisconsin. He applied for a patent in 1933 that was issued in 1935. His InSinkErator company put his disposer on the market in 1940. I was born in 1959 (Long Beach, CA) and we always had one wherever I lived. Love you guys! 😂
We had an InSinkErator disposal in our house in the late 1960's or early 1970's. I'm glad I didn't have to snake that refrigerator down and into the galley area. Obviously the air conditioning gets the interior nice and chilly too! 😉😀 edit: spelling after seeing Bob's comment
If you look at a current Princess or similar of this size it has 4 cabins, but they are built with charter in mind. This is a boat built for private use fewer larger cabins. You see this on Nordhavns - they have fewer cabins than other boats of their size, but they are almost never used for charter.
"The garbage disposal unit was invented in 1927 by John W. Hammes, an architect working in Racine, Wisconsin. He applied for a patent in 1933 that was issued in 1935. Well, considering the deep dive you took to come up with it, I guess it’s ok. Just kidding. That actually has a good vibe. And now you’ll have to supply your charters with that delicacy. 🙃👍😊❤️
Old School is way Cool! Love this live aboard! The only things I’d change are the glass tables as Vic suggested. Rico was obviously enjoying that helm too. Talking about Victoria….The weather wasn’t the only thing that was hot on this tour…. lol. And can’t wait to hear how you picked the name of your new charter boat and what the name means…. Another fun video. Thanks you guys!
Huckins Yachts have been around since 1928. The Fairform Flyer is the style of the planing hull. They made PT Boats in WWII. They still produce their custom yachts by hand at their boat yard in Jacksonville, Florida.
Great episode and tour! I see a great opportunity to build a dream yacht from this foundation without a whole lot of upgrading. The galley and master cabin would be where I would focus. Everything else looks serviceable for a while. Great find!
I don't know when garbage disposals were invented, but my parents house in Simsbury CT, USA had one in the 60s when I was very young. At the beginning, I was not impressed with this boat at all...but I warmed up starting with the pilot house/upper lounge, and was sold by the "real" saloon below and forward. I might do light remodeling, in a few places but I'd completely KEEP the shower fixtures!
I would Lose the Glass Tables,(hate those dam things) remodel aft cabin with a Queen size bed and put a small Wood burning stove in the Parlor, Alaska get cold, put a screened shade cover on the back deck lots of Bugs here to. And fix the Broken fan in the pilot house:)

is the cruising speed set in stone? can you use a boat like this around 7-8 knots or would that be wrecking the engines (lugging)? I just want a long range vessel. Thanks for any answers.

👌🏼
I remember dishwashers and garbage disposals in a house in Washington, DC in 1963, and they didn't appear to be new. The dishwasher had a handle that looked like a dogging latch.
Thanks for the insight!
Good looking yacht, well kept and upgraded.
Yes indeed!
Carl - thanks for all your comments - you are the best!
V, I love the casual look.🎉
thank you William
Seriously. I enjoy the older boat tours. You guys did a great job.thanks
Awww thank you so much Ron
This boat has an interesting and different layout that I like. Older boats like this one has a "soul" that makes them great. Great tour.
thank you and we agree
Haha come on separate beds on an 80's boat? Ricky and Lucy were on tv a few decades earlier. Separate bed because the v-drive access was in the middle of cabin. I would experiment with possibly some hydraulic struts to get a king size in there and still maintain drive access.
Interesting , Thank You . Another Well designed Classic that has aged really well . An interesting well designed engine room . As always I want acess to the engine room from inside. The name is interesting
Glad you enjoyed it
I saw this when it came out, but I didn't know this boat was built in Jacksonville, FL, just on the other side of town from me. They developed their unique hull design in the 1930s and used it for two squadrons of PT boats they built in WWII. "Fairform Flyer" is their brand name, so it's on all of their boats. Company was founded in 1928 and is currently run by the founder's granddaughter.
Rico, thank you for the insightful observation about the swim deck being in the up position, I would not have known that if you did not point it out
pleasure
Great yacht tour. If you're old enough, those twin beds in the owners suite we call Desi and Lucy beds. From the TV show I Love Lucy. AKA Birth Control Beds. Also that fan dangling by the wire on the flybridge is a real trendsetter fashion statement! Thanks! 😃
thanks for watching
Fairform Flyer is the Huckins name for the classic design and construction of the hull. Note the PT boat like lines, as Huckins was a builder of training PT boats during WW II. Her current name afaik is "Seabound." She's very fast with CAT C-18s and a massive fuel tank.
Beautiful name I love it awesome😃✨✨ let’s celebrate🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼🕺🏼
🎉
That would be a wonderful yatch to update while keeping the vintage vibes. I couldn't imagine how much it would cost. I know it was more expensive renovating an older house trying to save and repair the original parts, over just buying brand new. I love the stately expanse of it all instead of all cramed together using very knook and cranny. 😂
For some reason I really like this style. Not pretentious. It just say you are who you are! Will you still be producing tour videos once you start chartering your yacht?
That's the plan! 🙌🙌
Guys don’t worry about loud mouths!! They are just jealous as hell!! Look I wish I could own a yacht but I can’t but getting to see you two go through the entire process, is really entertaining. I wish you good fortune and safe cruising all the way. I’m getting anxious to see the tour video of “ADAMAS”
Yippee for you guys!! That is BEYOND cool that she’s almost done. ✌️❤️🇺🇸😎
Awwww - thank you so much for the kind words!
😂My favorite pillow is back! lol Love you guys! 🤩😍😘
we love you back
When was the garbage disposal invented? 😂
🙏🏼
They were common by mid 70s.
I'm kinda liking that boat!
Thanks for sharing
Rico, agree with the physical dimensions label. The most obvious info is usually overlooked.
thank you
If you look at a current Princess or similar of this size it has 4 cabins, but they are built with charter in mind. This is a boat built for private use fewer larger cabins. You see this on Nordhavns - they have fewer cabins than other boats of their size, but they are almost never used for charter.
Thanks for sharing 💙

Well, considering the deep dive you took to come up with it, I guess it’s ok. Just kidding. That actually has a good vibe. And now you’ll have to supply your charters with that delicacy. 🙃👍😊❤️
I appreciate that
Old School is way Cool! Thanks you guys!
check out this weeks video on NautiGuys it explains how we picked it 😉
Huckins Yachts have been around since 1928. The Fairform Flyer is the style of the planing hull. They made PT Boats in WWII. They still produce their custom yachts by hand at their boat yard in Jacksonville, Florida.
thank you so much for sharing Joe
I love the saloon. Great sized kitchen and very weird master. Overall nice yacht. Great name for the new yacht by the way.
Thank you very much!
Wonderful boat with amazingly large living spaces. Loved it. Even the 30 knots was very interesting On such a large boat. Very cool!
👌🏼
Great episode and tour! I see a great opportunity to build a dream yacht from this foundation without a whole lot of upgrading. The galley and master cabin would be where I would focus. Everything else looks serviceable for a while. Great find!
💙
I don't know when garbage disposals were invented, but my parents house in Simsbury CT, USA had one in the 60s when I was very young.
At the beginning, I was not impressed with this boat at all...but I warmed up starting with the pilot house/upper lounge, and was sold by the "real" saloon below and forward. I might do light remodeling, in a few places but I'd completely KEEP the shower fixtures!
👌🏼🙏🏼💙
That's right OUR BOAT! I will never have the money to see your boat or enjoy what you guys will do with it but I feel part of it!
awww happy to hear
Do you have to deal with asbestos on those older boats if you are reworking them? I could imagine that way back then it was still common.
good question
The garbage disposal was invented it 1927 by John Hammes and was first sold to the public in 1938 by the In Sinkerator Company.
"the aft" is where we start all Nautistyles vlogs!
💙
I would Lose the Glass Tables,(hate those dam things) remodel aft cabin with a Queen size bed and put a small Wood burning stove in the Parlor, Alaska get cold, put a screened shade cover on the back deck lots of Bugs here to. And fix the Broken fan in the pilot house:)
Nice liveaboard boat! 👍👍
yes it is - welcome back
@@NautiStyles 👍👍
Great tour
thank you so much Mike
Those red & white horizontal stripes look awesome on you !
Thank youuuuuu 🙏🏻💙⚓️
Huckins ride man what a boat

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet. All the best.
Thank you
is the cruising speed set in stone? can you use a boat like this around 7-8 knots or would that be wrecking the engines (lugging)? I just want a long range vessel. Thanks for any answers.
