i'm a choir singer (soprano II) and i strain a lot when singing, these warm downs help me literally be able to talk after hours and hours of practice. thank you so much!
Im a tenner in my choir and i have a hard time with my voice being breaky and weird after rehearsal and your cool downs help me make sure my voice is 1mill times better ❤
This is fantastic--thank you so much for posting! My throat always feels "high" after I've rehearsed, but I could literally feel my throat and voice relaxing down and recovering after this. Thank you again!
know the feeling, its because your larynx is literally higher, I really found that singing with with 'cry" helps to sing high notes and yet lower the larynx as to not push it too high up. it has helped immensely !
Yes :) i often do this when a warm up excersise is too high for me Do what feels comfortable, if it starts to get to low go back up to the original octive. Hope this helps
@@DontAssume123 I’m not teaching at the moment. I work a full time day job and do gigs as well so just don’t have the time at the moment. I’ve had over 15 years of professional vocal training. I also have singing teacher certification from the New York Vocal Coaching Academy :)
Do you have any tips on how to hit really high notes? There’s a certain part of my voice in high mezzo territory where I can’t hit notes all the time because I don’t know how to not open my jaw and it distorts the note. What should I do?
It shouldn't do any damage but I wouldn't do it as a warmup for the voice. For warming up I would focus more on exercises that stretch the voice to cover more of your range and some technique work. I do have a different video for a vocal warmup on my channel I would recommend instead :) ua-cam.com/video/Eu0Slg3MgVE/v-deo.html
I have a question I often sing and then take a break for a couple hours and then go back to singing should I do a vocal cool down before I take breaks even if I’m going to sing again?
That’s a great question! I would say it depends on how you are singing. If you are belting a lot, staying up in the high soprano range for a while, singing for a long period of time or your voice is tired afterwards I would definitely cool down after. If you’re more in the speaking range and singing more easy listening or jazz that isn’t as straining on the voice you would probably be fine not doing one afterwards but it never hurts to do one after every session! :)
I would definitely do some light humming through a straw and just vocal rest in general not going out and talking with people in between sets. The straw definitely helps to reset the voice especially if it is fatigued. Make sure you are sipping on water throughout the show to keep your vocal folds hydrated as well! :)
@@laurenalicesinging Thanks much Lauren! Forgive this second question, I know to drink a lot of water , which I do, the benefit supposedly is realized 24 to 36 hours later, as relates to actually hydrating cells. When sipping water, does the water make 'some' direct contact with the folds to achieve benefit? When I'm rehearsing , I always sip on a half cup of warm coffee, throughout, it seems to really help me , maybe psychologically, not sure, but do you think that coffee might be a big negative on the voice ?
@@bikersoncall That is correct! I always tell everyone to just sip on water throughout the day because it takes time to actually rehydrate so you wanna make sure your water intake is consistent. No liquids actually touch your vocal folds directly so coffee shouldn’t have any negative effect if you drink a little while you sing. I myself drink a bit of coffee during the day. If it ups your anxiety or adds tension then I would cut it out but if if a little bit seems to help sip away! :)
You can put your fingers on the corners of your mouth and try to relax your mouth. That's how I learned it and now I can do without help and with no problems!
I can definitely release a cool down video without a lip trill exercise. I know there are others who struggle with them as well. Thank you for the suggestion 💕

Me, too!
I like how you ask "ready?" Before the start of each exercise, it helps me actually get ready for the excercise
Agreed!
Too true 👌
Woah! I did practice belting without warming up…yes very stupid mood…but doing this cleared everything right up and my voice is like 100% better now
I’m glad to hear that your voice is feeling better now! ☺️
Okay that’s fine but please no bragging
@@jamesjames_ Just shut up
Thats not bragging..@@jamesjames_
Time stamps:
0:54 hum and chew
1:49 “oo” slide
2:51 lip or tongue trill
4:06 lip or tongue trill different scale
5:19 “ma” exercise
Why we have to chew in the first one 😂
Chewing helps to release tension especially in the jaw :)@@Nancystove
