- Academy Award-winner Alexandra Byrne shares her long journey into Costume Design. With a growing passion for design, Byrne studied Architecture and worked in the Theatre industry for over 15 years. Eventually Byrne followed her colleagues into the TV and Film field working in the Costume Design industry. With a deep understanding of the importance of research for her work, Byrne has created highly celebrated costumes for three Elizabethan era films including, "Elizabeth," "Elizabeth: The Golden Age" and "Mary Queen of Scots."
her costume work in Emma (2020) is what got me into the historical fashion world. She used accurate fashion that spoke to the characters without sacrificing the aesthetic (which is really rare). She showed us the incredible versatility and colorfullness of Regency gardments which now make it one of my favourite fashion era. For those interested, I recommend watching the scene-by-scene breakdown by Mariah Pattie
Congrats, Alexandra Byrne
You are an immense inspiration of mine and your work is why I got into costume myself.
My dream to study one day costume design. (Let’s see one day, when money and time is available)💛
Best way to study is to find a theater or student film and go do it. Experience and practice is the best teacher.
I've learned so much! Thanks
Amazing 💛
Waiting to be rejected for costume uni
