You can call Delbert's music "Texas roadhouse blues" if you want to, but you might as well give up trying to pin a label on this guy. Delbert finally hit the spotlight thanks to big-time fan John Belushi, who brought him to Saturday Night Live and millions of new fans. His single "Givin' It Up For Your Love" hit the Top 10 and gave him his first real taste of commercial success. But the Delbert sound isn't what you'd exactly call mainstream. His wailing harp and gutsy vocals will take you to the edge, and he'll keep you on your feet. This high-octane Austin City Limits performance from December 18, 1982 turned the audience into a dance floor and kept the adrenaline flowing all night.
I got turned on to Delbert listing to Imus in the morning on my way to work in Boston
Saw Delbert in about 1981 in Athens GA. He was knee-walking drunk, could barely stand up. But he never missed a note. Before the first song he looked at the audience and said, "Y'all don't think I can do it, do you?" He did.
*POWER MOVE*
Thank God I found this video! One of my all time favorites! Gminor one of the funniest comments ever on Utube
looks like Randall Bramblett on keyboard, was most likely on sax in Athens
This man's voice is so strong he does not need a dedicated speaker to hear himself over the band
Seeing Delbert in May in Annapolis!!!! I "found" him when I moved to NC in 1997. He helped me get over a divorce and I've loved him ever since!
I have raised 3 kids by myself 17 years and they are just about grown I met a man on Facebook about 7 months ago February 3rd I've been single all these years and I go see fireworks and they're singing your song and me and him were listening and I'll send it to him God is good thank you for your voice and sharing your life with the world may God bless you and your family like you have blessed me and the man that I have fell in love with
❤ congrats on love ❤️
Got into Delbert after Don Imus had him play on his morning show from New York City. Great music he could make !
That's my cousin, Delbert.
Can u sing?
Hes the man!
That's a hell of a cool badass cousin you got 👍
I became a Delbert fan in the late 70s when a friend in high school introduced me to his music. I've seen him live 3 or 4 times and it is always a great show. The man is an institution. This is one of my favorite songs of his too...needs more cowbell though. ;-)
I was a student at U of Alabama in 1979 and he gave an outdoor concert in Tuscaloosa. I'm not sure if the audience knew him that well at the time....He played a set then took a break, and low and behold walked into the crowd during the hiatus. He stood right next to me and I think he was smoking a cigarette, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I remember thinking this dude is extremely cool to walk out into the crowd and just chill during the break. I remember speaking to him but don't know what we said, I just observed he was really approachable and very cool. I'm positive he played "giving it up for your love" that day, I'll never forget it.
nobody, no one, no where does it better than delbert.
There will never be another quite like Delbert!
Tina did it better
I'm an ol' man....way past 60....grew up listening to and going to see Delbert...and yes I feel sorry for people who didn't get to see the evolution of music, like people of my age have........from the 40's through today.........but..."The Beat" does go on....and on..and......
How you doin these days Bob?
Delbert McClinton is a National Treasure!
Much love to my brother Caveman. He is on Delbert's right side.
Awesome performance by Delbert and a super band among who the tenor sax player is a monster
you know what is awesome about 70's music? the top 40 charts might have a bluesy song like this great one, a stevie wonder song, a donny osmond song, a country crossover, a novelty song... in other words, the charts were one big melting pot, so as a youngster i was introduced to many genres just by listening to the radio. nowadays it's the same cookie cutter stuff and most of it is crap. i really feel sorry for young people of today.
The world needs more #DelbertMcClinton and more #cowbell
Dakota Treasure Hunter I've loved this guy 4 a long time......
Timothy Sanders good to hear from you DelbertGod bless
This cincert was an absolute classic. The live album is amazing.
McClinton has one of the great voices in American music and possesses a 'cool' which few performers naturally have.
Loved doing this song with the “Goodtimes Band out of Augusta Ga. We played a variety of music during the 70’s-80’s for weddings, Shrine and Elks clubs, American Legions etc. From a distance our sax player, Hugh Inglet glasses hair and all favored this guy. He could blow note for note on all those great songs. One of our favorites Hugh got us to learn was “Shaky Ground” which he used his new style tape machine sound effects. Great memories.
I saw this cat at The Grand Emporium in Kansas City. Man he can rock and sing the blues too. It was awesome. I don't think anyone in the whole place sat down during the entire show. WOW!
Wish I had the opportunity to see him.
This performance of Delbert made me a life long hard core fan
It came out in 1980 and was a #1 on the Hot 100 Billboard chart for 6 weeks. Hi only #1 but he deserves many more!
saw Delbert many years ago for my birthday at HOB in Chicago - that was a dream, just freaking awesome show - my favorite singer of all time
One of the best voices ever!
This man's voice is so strong he does not need a dedicated speaker to hear himself over the band
Some of his songs, have a good, but sometimes pain in them for me,my ex passed away in 2006..he was a soundman for many great bands, but turned me on to Delbert..songs he sang to me...I can now handle listening to his music again..Time heals all wounds..Staying present

The first time I ever heard of Delbert was in about 1995 when I won tickets to his concert. I have been hooked on his music ever since! If you have never seen him live you have to go when he plays in your area.
Bravo! Given it up for Jenny and Bill - their favorite song. RIP both of you.

Mr. Sweet Virginia Breeze himself, Steve “Ease” Bassett from Richmond, VA on the B3 organ! Legend.
You gotta love Delbert, he's a unique talent and ultra cool. I just came from watching videos of another of my favorites, Eric Clapton. Can you imagine a jam session with these two?

I saw Delbert at the Bayfront Blues Fest in Duluth MN back in '94 and he was awesome! I really love what he does...
I rarely get any braggin rights but here's one for real...Back in Okc, Don and I worked for a husband and wife team...the band was called ---"Leen 2 Plus 2"...Don and I were the "Plus 2" and John and Tammy Leen were the "Leen 2". We had a great time playing and Don was easy goin, a master of his instrument and just a lot of fun to work with. We were all thrilled when he got the call to join up with Delbert. You Rock the House Don...Warren said this~

Just love Delbert , most people dont even kniw who he is , it's a dang shame too!!!
From Macedonia: Hot and lively! We love this
I love Delbert's music. BTW, does anyone think that he resembles Charleston Heston (if Chuck had a different hair style and when he was younger, obviously). I think it's the eyes and bone structure in the face.
Well played sir, well played indeed !
OH YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LETS GET DOWNNNNNNNNNNNN
Hot damn !!!!! I love this man : )

Well I can under stand wanting to hear the studio version but..... anyone who has seen Delbert live I think will tell you live beats studio on every song you will find here. In fact an 8 minute version of this song is one here somewhere and Don Wise does some sax work that is amazing. He lays it down durring the song and the blows a solo for about 2 minutes. Delbert is signing things at that point. If you look in my favorites it is there.
HBD DELBERT!!!!
sounds just like the record!
live music at its best
August 3, 2018, Verizon Theater in Grand Prairie, Texas. Delbert McClinton and Joe Ely. I have excellent tickets in hand. It gonna be a hell of a night.
