Delbert wasn't active for much of the 80s. This was the start of his coming back to performing. Alligator Records just took this record and put it out because the performance was just popping. Horns, Bass, Delbert blowing on his harp ... Man what a great show. After this he had a revival of his career with duets with Bonnie Raitt and Tanya Tucker ...
Anyway, this song and Everytime I Roll the Dice are really tops.

Some of the best white blues singers of all time. His writing and the groove the band gets are as good as any one including James Brown

His band is so damn tight--what great styling top to bottom. I don't think there's a better blues man out there than Delbert! and the one person who said they disliked this clip must be crazy!

The tune that turned me onto Delbert in the mid-70s. I couldn't find it until now because I had the song title wrong. Saw him do it on SNL which he appeared on several times in the 70s.

The Blues Brothers also covered this song on their "Briefcase Full of Blues" album. John Belushi used to go see Delbert at "The Lone Star Cafe" in NYC back in the 70s. He was a great fan of Delbert.

Randy Kamin I first heard the 1971 ish and Delbert and Glen' s Subject to Change. If you think "Cold November" with David "Fathead" Newman is boring, I'm sorry. I first heard them with lots of bluesy acoustic guitar, Delbert''s amazing harp. I was in Connecticut trying to make Delbert McClinton a household word. I had the great luck of seeing him live in the 80s 90s. His live shows are splendid never boring. But the 1970s Delbert and Glen work was seminal and I wish they'd re-release them. Still got 2 each in vinyl. End of rant. 71 year old rabid Delbert Mclinton fan.

I concur, this is the best recorded version of this song I have ever heard. The groove is perfect, the band deep in the pocket, the double time ending and that righteous drum fill at the end. I could (and probably have) listen to it a thousand times and it's better every time.

I was in the plasma center in Asheville NC and a guy saw my harmonica in my hand cause back then I carried it around everywhere. He told me that night Delbert was playing The Orange Peele. I asked him what songs he sang and he mentioned "B-Movie Boxcar Blues" and I'd only heard The Blues Brothers version back then. No point to this story. Just typing.
