How to weld thin metal tubing by stick welding.

  • Stick welding a thin metal is a bit complicated process and it needs right method and skills. I found this method very easier for me to stick weld on a thin metal square tubing. I used 6013 type electrode 2.5mm diameter. The best suitable name for this method should be weld and pause trick.

    20 gauge is thin, I can only weld a continuous bead if I run it down, even then one wrong move and you blow a hole. I just wind up running tack welds, keeping gun real close. 16 gauge is doable

    .060, 1/16 inch tubing is the smallest I've ever stick welded without pulsing
    Other tricks you can try are running DCEN, keeping a tight arc (reduces voltage), and just moving fast. Weld flat if you can. You can make short runs without overheating, it almost acts like aluminum in that you have to start moving very quickly as the material heats up.

    1.7 mm is not thin. Thin metal is 0.5 mm.

    thickness 1.7mm is copnsider quite thick. I normally used thickness 1.0mm or 1.2mm

    Can we use fiber filler for sealing the sides that's not welded ?

      Clerarly stated in the video ....rod 6013 diameter 2.5mm
