I read that Eddie was on this track because Chris was originally going to sing both parts himself. Eddie had just been hired by Wood's former bandmates, forming Pearl Jam, and had just moved to Seattle. He was hanging out at the studio with the only people he knew in a new city, and just kind of...started singing the low parts because Chris was having some trouble with them. Friendship born.

They talk about this song in the PJ20 book, and I love the story. Eddie had just arrived in Seattle before they had recorded Ten, so he went down to the studio where Stone and Jeff were recording the Temple of the Dog record. He was sitting in the hall listening, and Chris was struggling a bit with the lower part, so he just walked in and started singing. It became a duet, and possibly my favorite ever vocal performances.
Its not about them, its about the fact that she didnt even knew eddie was part of this song. You can see it clearly. And then wtf with the 30 second temple of the dog google search and making it look like something she knew beforehand? Pathetic.
Without a doubt, Big wig's in Seattle said that Mother Love Bone was on it's way to become Seattle's first, huge super star band! They thought they would have been way bigger than Queensryche!
Correct, they were called Mother Love Bone. They we're becoming more & more mainstream, along with Alice in Chains and Soundgarden in the Seattle Grunge scene. After Adam passed, Mother Love Bone sent an instrumental demo to Jack Irons of the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Irons passed on the offer, but recommended the tape to his friend, Eddie Vedder, a singer and surfer in San Diego❤️
Wow - to match two voices so well and with so much power!! Not sure there was a duo on one song in this genre of music that could have done it better. Jaw-dropping and amazing!!

Then I went to bed and just woke up right now lol. Yes of course it’s Cornell singing up to the pre-chorus not Vedder. Or no wait, Vedder just re-sings the whole verse if I remember correctly. It’s really strange how different they both sound singing exactly the same notes. Cornell’s voice is...”twangier” is the only word I can come up with. Vedder’s is warmer. But I like Cornell’s better. I mean I loved soundgarden so much that to this day, I used a part of one of their songs in many of my passwords (with other letters and numbers of course lol) and that’s the truth. That was devastating and honestly really pissed me off when Chester did it two weeks later and overshadows Cornell’s death entirely. But I’m torn cuz I liked Chester a LOT too.

I somehow think these great singers don't sit around and think about resonance, jaw position, or any of the things you mention, they just go out and do it with the raw talent they have.
Eddie and Chris can do this shit like they're ventriloquists and deliver the same sound
One of my favorite songs by them.
