Nice video!! Good points on "oiling down the track isnt' cool" ! I would add "no holes in the fire wall; at our track the helmet has to be snell rated and date correct or you won't race, no cracks in front windshield, and they don't want to see the nylon oil pressure line.

Great video! One note to add is battery mounting. On a hard launching car with the battery mounted length, wise, such as yours, the internal plates are trying to crash into each other. Mounted width wise is a little safer. My local track tech explained that to me.

You did well Joe. Back in the 70's I know I'm old. I was racing with a Vaga and a 427 and lost a rubber hose with hose clamps from the transmission to its cooler trany fluid covered the track, I was told by another racer back then that the rubber hose even with clamps wouldn't work. I've run steal lines from that point on and never had a problem with that set up. I keep my car up to spects on safety. Its my life i'll be saving. Duel springs on the carb is really important. Its cheep and real inportant.
Good deal! Safety is important in racing. Most these cars barely had seat belts from the factory. Gaining new speed with the aftermarket parts, need to be safe inside the car.

That double throttle spring tip is great, even for a street car. One below zero night, after closing time, I hopped into my Satellite, fired it up and it immediately went redline. While trying to bend a new hook on the broken spring I jammed the end into my thumb. Tetanus shot. LOL

That’s a good one. They don’t check for them here. I know some big racers that run the 33/16-15 slicks and don’t run tubes in their slicks. That one makes me nervous.
I guess it never dawned on me before, but now that you mention it, I have windowed both a 350 Chevy and a 390 Ford, but have never windowed any Mopar engines!! I have cracked many factory flex plates. The last several engines I have built have had both an SFI flex plate and dampener. Great video as usual, Joe..
Good stuff... You covered pretty much all of it... I would add.. #Tires if you pick up a set of slicks at a swap meet check the date code and look for signs of dry rot cracks in the sidewalls. Great Video Joe
Glad to know your doing this . some of the stuff in this part 1 video I already knew and it reconfirmed it and and a couple I didn't or have to modify what I already have on my vehicles . I sent an email to Dallas discribing some questions I had but he didnt answer them and just said its not going to be fast and just bring a pair of pants 🙄. I also put a #13" x 3 " size ABC fire extinguisher with in arms reach in my vehicles that has a a bracket that bolts or screws down to a mounting surface. looking forward to part 2

Can you vent those out the out the old gas cap? You can make them so they don’t seal tight but still close with the barracuda cap. Looking forward to the next video from before the water box through the lights!

Joe, I just watched this again. I don't like to do burnouts with my car. I like a little spin when accelerating hard, but I don't practice burnouts. Do you have any suggestions or maybe an old video about running street(DOT)tires? Or your thoughts on bypassing the burnout process. 😊

Good sir, I have always had a scatter shield in Jezebel, and let me tell ya it is a real deal 1971 Hydro-formed steel Ansen Scatter shield and I trust it more than the lakewoods
Great coverage Joe!!! My last daily/racecar targeted 11.49. I didn't want to break that and have to add everything. But lots of the safety items are worth doing even if you arent that fast. Back in '90, I saw a Dart almost flip on its lid due to dropping a driveshaft, and my Dart got a driveshaft loop long before it got a big block because of that memory. Sure wish I was on the right side of the country to be part of this!!! Itd sure help light the fire to get some things done!!
Loop the fuel vent and have it run straight down threw the floor and secure it so it can survive a roll over without being cut or pulling back into the car. You need a Fire wall in the back. A better overflow bottle. As soon as you put a bar in the car you need a Harness. There's lots of stuff NHRA would give you a hard time about but fire is my #1 concern.
Battery boxes have to be in a sealed enclosure and vented outside the body if it is in the drivers compartment. Putting a firewall in should keep you from having to have a top. Great video and I try to read up on the rules every couple of months to keep from getting bit.
Nice informative video! Question: If you running a car for the first time and have no idea what your ET will be, how do they tech inspect your car? For example, if you tell them you think it will run a 12.5 and it actually runs a 10.99, will they re-tech your car? Or do they initially assign a bracket based upon your setup? Thank you very much.
So often times there isn’t a tech inspection, at most my local tracks. They give you their rules ahead of time and hope you follow them. If a car appears to be out of tech IE, looks raggedy, leaks oil, etc. they can kick you out. To better answer your question, I’d say be honest. You can always look at other cars similar to yours and see what they are running, that’ll give you a loose baseline. However, not everyone with your same car has the tuning or building ability to optimize its power and ET potential. I’ve seen 700+ hp cars on the dyno run slower than 500 hp cars at the track. If your car is faster than you teched, they may tell you to either change the issues, or go ahead and shut you down for the day. A big one is convertible cars. Many tracks put a steeper rule on them for not having a solid roof. Have fun and good luck!

The firesuit won't look silly if you're climbing out of a 15 Second cars, while it's one fire cause the guy before you oiled the track down and no one noticed.
I guess I’m young enough to not see many mopars at the track. The ones I see there are usually pretty decent cars that have a lot of thought in the builds. The Chevys I’ve seen do it were both Oreily rebuilt 350’s for about $1200 each 😅

I know I've been called out, and plan to let the wife make the run in it. But 2 things on that whole thing. 1 - I'm not doing anything to the car for go fast goodies, just ALL the safety requirements (with No Hang Ups for the next guy to run) it really is just a daily driver car and has to make the 1600 mile drive back home. 2 - If this takes away from *Any of you guys* that are doing this to Race, I'll be the 1st to bow out to let a Racer in. That's what actually took me a bit longer to Register for this. I didn't want to take a Slot that was actually meant for a Racer.
No way man! At this event, everyone’s a racer! To me, it’s 10x’s more fun to watch a good back yard grudge race than to see the cookie cutter cars show up. Let me know if I can help. And oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm looking forward to that Race, and more so my wife is beyond eustatic about it (the plan worked now she pushes me into the shop instead of trying to get me to watch Mrs. Maisel with her). I just don't want to take away a time slot from someone like Wildrose that's building for the Race & coming all the way from Edmonton Canada to get some track time. If time permits, you'll see the old "Friday Night Cruise - Oh Yeah - Line it up at the Stop Light" race and it will be fun as all get out.
Thank you for the wisdom. Those of us with 727s need a diaper. :-) That diaper also would be useful to lay on when I have to fix something. :-) Seriously though my biggest worry is that the main seal or something else will start leaking on me. I need to order that and a scatter shield, might as well get a driveshaft loop as I have broken a front u-joint doing burnouts. None of this I need, at best I'll be in the 8s in the 1/8 as I won't have any traction, but it is worth doing. On the cutoff, I guess I can wire in an alternate location in back but I'd rather not permanently mount the battery in the truck bed. I wonder if anyone here has a front battery that can be moved to the rear for cut-off purposes?
I’m not sure on that. I understand you wouldn’t want to run great lengths of cable etc. But if it’s a cutoff switch can be mounted anywhere if it’s non mandatory.
And I would never run one of those glass fuel filters I have seen it come unscrewed before on two of my personal friends cars one start a fire one did not
I’ve heard that. Mine usually are so tightly screwed, that the glass almost pops. Never an issue here, but I do have an aluminum reusable filter that I’m replacing it with.

I believe that vent needs to be looped and run out to the bottom of the car, so if the car gets rubber side up it won’t leak gas out.

Joe I vented my fuel line out the bottom of my trunk attached to a small air filter. Remember the vent line needs to be looped.
Thanks brother. I was thinking of a way to vent it to my actual gas filler flip top cap. It’s still on the car, but just an ornament at this point.
Also the fuel tank needs to separate from the driver . A barrier needs to be in place… Great video Go Mopar Joe

Those of us with 727s need a diaper. :-) That diaper also would be useful to lay on when I have to fix something. :-) Seriously though my biggest worry is that the main seal or something else will start leaking on me. I need to order that and a scatter shield, might as well get a driveshaft loop as I have broken a front u-joint doing burnouts. None of this I need, at best I'll be in the 8s in the 1/8 as I won't have any traction, but it is worth doing.
On the cutoff, I guess I can wire in an alternate location in back but I'd rather not permanently mount the battery in the truck bed. I wonder if anyone here has a front battery that can be moved to the rear for cut-off purposes?
I’m not sure on that. I understand you wouldn’t want to run great lengths of cable etc. But if it’s a cutoff switch can be mounted anywhere if it’s non mandatory.

That’s a good way to be. There was a simple tech inspection yesterday at NNN. Many guys had to drain their antifreeze.
If it ain’t leakin it ain’t a racecar. Anytime you mount the battery in the trunk you must have the external cutoff switch.
Definitely a good idea. Our local tracks make it their top rule.
And I would never run one of those glass fuel filters I have seen it come unscrewed before on two of my personal friends cars one start a fire one did not
I’ve heard that. Mine usually are so tightly screwed, that the glass almost pops. Never an issue here, but I do have an aluminum reusable filter that I’m replacing it with.
