Great video Andy, all kinds of information, the wiring in the car was, well not pretty, but I had a car fire years ago and since then I've been OCD about it, not picking just saying
Good video. Liked the NHRA Rule Book viewpoint, things gotta' happen for better racer safety. It's an awesome sport, but it'll humble you when your not expecting it.
What's the ruling on the drivers seat ? Does it need to be attached to the rollbar behind the seat ? What if I have A factory seat? Car runs mid tens & under 135 !
Andy there mostly good rules that they have for safety but one rule i disagree with is requiring a metal battery box. I had plastic battery box and the official gave me a hard time about it he told me if the car flipped over that the plastic wasn't good which i explained to him it couldn't ark on plastic and i also had it anchored to the floor

Recent rule change says you can run down to 9.0 without a roll bar or cage in a 2014 and newer cars as long as it has the original safety equipment and DOT tires. Demon & Hellcat owners no longer have to modify their cars to race!
i used or drag race a sportbike (stock class) and even then the rules were strict..Saw too many folks showing up with a jean jacket, blue jeans and steel toes with no helmet, leathers or gloves and were told there was NO way they could run on the drag..and theyd be mad..
Great video Andy! As far as a neutral safety switch goes, I'd be curious as to what your thoughts and tech experience has been with regard to teching-in or passing MANUAL transmission cars that never came equipped with any form of neutral safety interlocks on their transmission or clutch from the factory (a VW beetle based application in my instance)? I'm sure there are ways to interlock that for safety, but it seams like the rules could be slightly ambiguous on this. Any thoughts? Thanks my friend!
YES! Been there and seen that How bout cars without a Neutral safety switch? People also love to stall test their converters in the lanes .. Crazy stuff I would see it all of the time.. Thanks for Watching! I'm sure I left some things out as it's been 11 years since I did it.. Andy
Sheldon, I said the same thing! You can watch me run this car back in the day on UA-cam.. just search Andy Wood Zmax Dragway.. it was running 10's back then. Thanks for Watching Andy
When we disconnect our battery, we always disconnect the negative cable first. Any chance you know why the NHRA requires the battery disconnect to be on the positive cable?
Andy...now 'that's' safe drag racing 🏎 🙄. Just like on the Sportfishing boat.About seamanship; the best way to do 'that' is well...AVOID it at all times. Period. You got this, Andy🤔🥳😎.
Andy, I have been to NHRA tracks on test and tune days and have observed multiple late model cars (i.e. Mustangs) running mid to low 10’s with essentially bone stock factory stock chassis. No roll bars, driveshaft loops, stock axles, etc. Are the rules different for late model cars due to their having to comply with stricter safety standards?
My cousin has a few large gaps between a few bars. He just did not take his time fitting, and cutting some of the pipes. Is it going to hold up IF he crashes? I’m not so sure 😳
I suppose if I want to keep it streetable/semi-daily-able I should keep it slower than a 10.00, then. Then again, how many cars between 10.00 and 8.50 are also really good in the corners, anyway? (I'm going for multi-purpose performance)
Great video . I’m running a 98 f-150 with 5.4 but want to run a 351 carb motor , you know If that will cause me a trouble in the getting it certified since it’s not the right motor for truck ? Any help or info would help ! Thank you sir . Keep the video coming ..

I'm going to have to disagree with you. In many instances the "rules" are just used to annoy and hassle people and ruin their day. Example; I was kicked off the track once for not having a drive shaft loop. Never mind it's a mid-engine rear wheel drive car........... There is NO drive shaft to start with. The transaxle mounts directly to the engine just like exotics. Once I pitched a fit, and demanded to talk to a senior inspector his response was "the rules say you have to have one, that's your problem."......... What am I supposed to do? Cut a hole in my hood, bolt one on and leave it hanging out in the air? Another time I was kicked out because they couldn't verify my damper. Again, mid-engine, so the front of the engine is very close to the fire wall between the engine bay and the passenger compartment. And since it's a flat bottom chassis you can't see it from below. But if you contort yourself and use a mirror you CAN see it's an ATI damper. But since he couldn't read a SFI number in the mirror I was kicked out.............. (even though I showed him photos of it before the engine was installed) And yet lastly, I was thrown out because my cage (10 point BTW) didn't mount to a "frame rail".......... It's a monocoque chassis!!!! I don't have frame rails!!!!!! Again............. "my problem"............ Unless you show up to a track/event with the same bull shit as most other people. (a chopped up and welded domestic) the inspectors are fucking clueless. And more times than not so fucking arrogant they won't listen............ Overall I DO NOT have a high opinion of the inspectors. Yes, occasionally I run into one that's either a fabricator OR is willing to listen. But that's far and few between.
