I love how this album is getting its flowers now. His reinterpretations are masterful. The original songs are masterpieces. You only have to listen to his Oasis album to know how it could have been spectacularly unremarkable, yet it is glorious.
El borracho......fenix tx reminds me of my worst gf from highschool.....The Bottle became my next replacement, but we all fill in the blank spaces somewhere, somehow, or someday. Just think the next time i listen to this song will be in the pouring rain.
6 year old comment but oh my god I’ve thought about a 1989 musical so much Welcome to the New York - Hero moves to the city to make a new start, makes some new friends Blank Space - Hero reflects on her past troubled relationship, wrongly believes the breakup was her fault Style - Main character’s friends take her shopping to cheer her up How You Get the Girl - Male lead’s goofy friends hype him up to ask the main character out Stay/Bad Blood - The lead and her ex debate whether or not to get back together You Are In Love - the leads realise their feelings for each other Clean - Emotional reckoning where the main character overcomes her past trauma Shake It Off - Fun ending dance number
R A shows the world the depth of T's songs. this is the deepest layer oF T's mind: some kind of awful despair, an abyss of longing that will never be filled TS is a genius and R A is her prophet!!!!!! love u both....
Taylor's version of this is optimistic if maybe frustrated. Adams seems to come at this song with a bitter melancholy. He has no hope of reuniting with his lover. It's pure despair.
Your explanation of Ryan's translation. Is why I think his version is far more beautiful. It's so true to the reality of love. Acceptance of how love was won and lost. Great comment, Sammy Berg.
It's more of sarcastic narcissism and spiteful. Like looking back on a bad relationship - "Thats how you get the girl". I have both Taylor's and Ryan's 1989 albums and both are great albums from different genres. The Springsteen style that Ryan blended into Taylor's pop-country is incredible how well it worked out.
I've tried (sort of) to like T-Swift, but can't yet manage it. But this is one of my favorite Ryan Adams albums. So goddamn good. All that great late 80s, early 90s nostalgia sounds incredible with Adams.
I have been following the Brilliant Ryan Adams since the early Whiskeytown days. How cool to co-opt Swift's embracing of Pop Producer driven drivel and RA comes along and make a hell of a better record in his tiny home studio and two ears.
+1stSaintsFan The only reason that Ryan Adam's album is any good is because 1989 is a good pop record in the first place. It's a pop record, I know, but it's way better than a lot of the stuff out there today, and I agree that there is a lot of "drivel" out there, I don't think 1989 is a part of it.
Travis Carroll Ok I got your point. I have a lot of admiration for TS and she is smart as a whip. She loves RA's take on her album. They are both very good and hopefully the next time I see Ryan Adams he will not charge Taylor Swift prices. lol
On the original 1989 album, this song is probably my least favorite. Yet, on this covers album, it's one of my favorites. He completely reinvents it, makes it his own, and makes me appreciate the song more. It is beautiful and enchanting.
Stand there like a ghost Shaking come the rain, rain She'll open up the door And say, are you insane, -ane? Say it's been a long six months (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh) And you were too afraid to tell her what you want, want (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh) And that's how it works It's how you get the girl And then you say I want you for worse or for better I would wait for ever and ever Broke your heart, I'll put it back together I would wait for ever and ever And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl Remind her how it used to be, be Yeah, with pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks, cheeks Tell her how you must've lost your mind (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh) When you left her all alone and never told her why, why (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh) And that's how it works That's how you lost the girl And now you say I want you for worse or for better I would wait for ever and ever (Ever and ever) Broke your heart, I'll put it back together I would wait for ever and ever And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, yeah And you could know, oh That I don't want you to go Remind me how it used to be Pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks And say you want me, yeah, yeah And then you say I want you for worse or for better (Worse or for better) I would wait for ever and ever (Ever and ever) Broke your heart, I'll put it back together I would wait for ever and ever (I want you for ever and ever) And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh (That's how it works) And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh (Get the girl) And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh And that's how it works It's how you get the girl, girl, oh And that's how it works That's how you got the girl
If you knew music composition you would understand its much easier to be bop a song than to compose the music to fit a slower version. Its takes much more imagination, now you might like that kind of verve, on some songs its OK, on some songs both styles can be OK. But it matters not that hes famous, hes just one of the best at matching or composing music to lyrics since Dylan. He has basically no bad songs. Even Elton John has 60 percent bad songs. This dude is just gifted.
hes very sharp at composition and singing with feeling oasis wonderwall and when the stats go blue are just as good for different reasons when the stars go blue is very stripped down 1 person vs coors and bono tim mcgraws version is the worst
I know its hers, thats why I said what I said. Everything she writes shows a slight glimpse of good 'lyricmanship', but her songs are 90% generic dumb pop boring. She should just write the lyrics and let other people do the rest, thats what I meant, and it was pretty apparent.
cw YOU think that Tay is Boring, but not everyone... You can't tell an artist to stop doing what they want because you don't like them... It's just so stupid... What if i don't like Ryan? Can i tell him to stop singing?
I don't like this nor any other cover he made from 1989, just..its boring, so simple, nothing exciting or some exciting part. It's like I've heard it all before.
hes very sharp at composition and singing with feeling oasis wonderwall and when the stats go blue are just as good for different reasons when the stars go blue is very stripped down 1 person vs coors and bono tim mcgraws version is the worst

your voice puts me in the most serene environment. Really, you couldn't be more perfect.
same
Your name makes me think of fenix tx
El borracho......fenix tx reminds me of my worst gf from highschool.....The Bottle became my next replacement, but we all fill in the blank spaces somewhere, somehow, or someday. Just think the next time i listen to this song will be in the pouring rain.
This cover makes me wanna cry 😢 also they should make a movie based around the entire 1989 album using both Taylor's and these versions
OMG what a great idea
Watch someone great
Taylor got the already arranged melodies from Ryan Adams who got the lyrics from me
6 year old comment but oh my god I’ve thought about a 1989 musical so much
Welcome to the New York - Hero moves to the city to make a new start, makes some new friends
Blank Space - Hero reflects on her past troubled relationship, wrongly believes the breakup was her fault
Style - Main character’s friends take her shopping to cheer her up
How You Get the Girl - Male lead’s goofy friends hype him up to ask the main character out
Stay/Bad Blood - The lead and her ex debate whether or not to get back together
You Are In Love - the leads realise their feelings for each other
Clean - Emotional reckoning where the main character overcomes her past trauma
Shake It Off - Fun ending dance number
R A shows the world the depth of T's songs.
this is the deepest layer oF T's mind: some kind of awful despair, an abyss of
longing that will never be filled
TS is a genius and R A is her prophet!!!!!!
love u both....
Best most beautiful song/voice!
Good comment.
I actually didn't care for this track on Taylor's album, but this cover makes me appreciate it more.
+Jolene Stavos This track that you "actually didn't care" could be Taylor's next single.
+death “the” Kid That's cool, I love her album, I just liked other tracks more. I think it's ok that I express that opinion, right?
+Jolene Stavos i thought the same thing!
+Jolene Stavos :O this track on Tay's album always makes me bounce about in excitement. The arrangement is just so energetic and fun.
Jolene Stavos Yeah ofcourse. So would be the next single that you like! Clean? Stay? Girl? Romantics?
Those deep beats in the chorus are absolutely... just... ugh. I don't even know. Perfect.
Taylor's version of this is optimistic if maybe frustrated. Adams seems to come at this song with a bitter melancholy. He has no hope of reuniting with his lover. It's pure despair.

The difference between a Scorpio and a Sagittarius...

What a brilliant comment - - doctor despair has worked his magic on this song and now a good song becomes sublime.
Taylor's obsession with auto tune always kills the soul and heart of her songs.
I cried... So much... In the best way possible
listening to ryan adams when it's raining is the most relaxing combo :D
I never comment on UA-cam but this version of this song is perfect.
This song was probably one of the best things that happened to me today. And one of the best songs I've heard
This one crossed over so perfectly , so earthy and natural ! It stands to both Taylor for the lyrics and Ryan for his interpretation
I can't wait to hear "CLEAN"
All of his covers from 1989 that I've listened to i don't like, but i quite like this one!
I don't think I've ever listened to an album more than I have this one!
It's heartbreaking and sad and emotional. Like listening into a tragic love story. 😍😭
This is honestly beautiful
I can't recognize "How you get the girl" that I used to know! You refreshed Taylor's song by your talented way! Thank you and Love you!
I've tried (sort of) to like T-Swift, but can't yet manage it. But this is one of my favorite Ryan Adams albums. So goddamn good. All that great late 80s, early 90s nostalgia sounds incredible with Adams.
You do this song so much justice!
I have been following the Brilliant Ryan Adams since the early Whiskeytown days. How cool to co-opt Swift's embracing of Pop Producer driven drivel and RA comes along and make a hell of a better record in his tiny home studio and two ears.

This song got into my life as the girl I loved left me #ripfeelings
Masterpiece by Adams
Hauntingly chillingly beautiful
This is fantastic! Melancholy, sad, and mesmerizing at the same time. Brilliant!
This cover beats the original song - LOVE.
I never thought this song could get anymore perfect! This is probably better then the og even.
Beautiful, you really get the heartbreak in this song about her girlfriend.
Great Voice and Music
I’ve never heard this song but he does a good cover of it
I was skeptical because I love Taylor's version so much - but this is amazing. Beautiful and tragic.
Fuiste el primero en mencionar "Taylor's version" que risa
Definitely my favorite omg
Ryan Adams:- Covering Songs better than the original since Wonderwall...xx
Sunrise on the beach + This song = Memories with her...
Incredible voice.
Another cool cover from Ryan Adams!
love this it brings a new whole meaning to the song
This song covered by you, is simply amazing
He goes so much deeper emotionally in songs. It reflects in such a beautiful way with his great voice. Tragically, haunting, amazing.
Starting at 2:30 - chills every time I hear it...
Love the chorus, I was waiting for it and the song just got better
I shed tears. Why
Adams will do that. check out ALL of his suff
I love taylors version, but this is amazing too😍😍😍
Oh my, this is quite enchanting. Bravo sir

I miss you.
Pure talent
perfect, just like 1989
This is so good ❤️❤️😫😫
Brilliant
I Love this man!
The Replacements - Here Comes A Regular comes to mind .This is a lovely version.
This is perfect.
2:33 "You could know...that I don't wanna let you go."
Beautiful cover, enough said
How you own the song
knock knocking on heaven's door
+Guada Galindo x'D

+Guada Galindo Well nice try but not!

I could never not love you..
Oh yeh really amazing nice voice...one of my favorite for sure... but song chords so close to knock'g knock'g...heavens door...😃
In love ❤
WTF!!! best cover album of all time, strangely reminds me of Van Morrisons Astral weeks
Id love to hear him cover songs like Exile and The Great War
On the original 1989 album, this song is probably my least favorite. Yet, on this covers album, it's one of my favorites. He completely reinvents it, makes it his own, and makes me appreciate the song more. It is beautiful and enchanting.
DAMN.....
stiller of songs
00:45 that woke me up
So that's how you get the girl?!?
Stand there like a ghost
Shaking come the rain, rain
She'll open up the door
And say, are you insane, -ane?
Say it's been a long six months (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh)
And you were too afraid to tell her what you want, want (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh)
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl
And then you say
I want you for worse or for better
I would wait for ever and ever
Broke your heart, I'll put it back together
I would wait for ever and ever
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl
Remind her how it used to be, be
Yeah, with pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks, cheeks
Tell her how you must've lost your mind (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh)
When you left her all alone and never told her why, why (Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh)
And that's how it works
That's how you lost the girl
And now you say
I want you for worse or for better
I would wait for ever and ever (Ever and ever)
Broke your heart, I'll put it back together
I would wait for ever and ever
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, yeah
And you could know, oh
That I don't want you to go
Remind me how it used to be
Pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks
And say you want me, yeah, yeah
And then you say I want you for worse or for better (Worse or for better)
I would wait for ever and ever (Ever and ever)
Broke your heart, I'll put it back together
I would wait for ever and ever (I want you for ever and ever)
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh
(That's how it works) And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh (Get the girl)
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh
And that's how it works
It's how you get the girl, girl, oh
And that's how it works
That's how you got the girl
the strings the strings.... jesus
His voice putting me to sleep
This has The Replacements "Here Comes A Regular" sound to it.
Same chord progression pretty much
This sounds like it could have been on Springsteen's Nebraska. Brilliant.
it feels like listening to James Taylor!
great cover of a great song!- better than Tailor's original in my opinion! kudos!
Jw King Taylor's*
😍😍😍😍
All of these covers make you want to go to sleep
If he wasn't already famous they wouldn't get any love

I just I can't I'm dying
This sounds like it could be a Replacements lost track.
❤❤❤❤❤😍😍😍
👍🏽
1,2,3,4, wohooo
Holly oaks brought me here!
talbot..the comments on out of the woods are dispensed with/ suspended..why do you suppose.? swift didn't write any of 1989
She wrote a lot of 1989. And nice pun
@@captainayaaya28 no, neither lyrics nor melody: just got all her teeny poppers to buy it
Replacements? Here Comes a Regular?
I beleive she worte this one for Jack Antonoff.
No no. The one she wrote for Jack and his girlfriend, Lena Dunham was You R in Love. It's in the deluxe version :)
Right.
John Denver?!
Someone messaged me this before he broke my heart....
This song reminds me of my ex
Perfectly changed.... bet Taylor swift dig is wishing she had done it this way 🤦🏼♂️🤷♂️
hes very sharp at composition and singing with feeling oasis wonderwall and when the stats go blue are just as good for different reasons when the stars go blue is very stripped down 1 person vs coors and bono tim mcgraws version is the worst
the male counter part of lana del rey
Here because of Hollyoaks..
same
+Dylan Jones uno 👌
True 😂
+Dylan Jones 😂😂
oh no wonder, think thats where i shazam'd this song from
I actually prefer the original version
+Sara Abdi that's great, but music is not a competition.
+Sara Abdi so?
Would appreciate this album more if he actually sung the melodies right... and wasn't an abuser...
I feel like I'm the only one who doesnt really like his covers of Taylor Swift. No hate, i guess its just not for me...
Maybe Taylor should just write stuff and let real musicians do the rest. :(
cw This is Taylor's song. She does it much better.
I know its hers, thats why I said what I said.
Everything she writes shows a slight glimpse of good 'lyricmanship', but her songs are 90% generic dumb pop boring.
She should just write the lyrics and let other people do the rest, thats what I meant, and it was pretty apparent.

Sure you can. You are allowed to form an opinion and expose it if you feel it is relevant.
cw You do know 1989 is her ONLY pop album? She used to do country. Go listen to Our Song and come back.
This doesn't sound like a real voice
+Destiny Smith It has heavy reverb on it, but that's Ryan Adams for sure
+Destiny Smith It is a real voice unlike some of the crap on Taylor's Fuck Buddy Calvin Harris' garbage.
At least it isn’t auto tuned up the ass like lots of today’s artists.
I don't like this nor any other cover he made from 1989, just..its boring, so simple, nothing exciting or some exciting part. It's like I've heard it all before.
It's a 80 vibe type of cover
+badassxadam that is what I thought! all the songs sound the same! Taylor's version is alot better! I love her version of this song!
the guy has a good voice but i didn't like it
hes very sharp at composition and singing with feeling oasis wonderwall and when the stats go blue are just as good for different reasons when the stars go blue is very stripped down 1 person vs coors and bono tim mcgraws version is the worst
