    i got a 3 box set tupperware, 30x30cm box
    i use one of them as a digging box, the other box as a waterbath/checking belly tub, and also for weighing, and when i feed i just use the plastic lid to let the insects on,
    it took mathilde a few times to get the tricky smooth surface, but she has absolutely no problems chasing bugs on the lid anymore, no impaction risks and she gets to use her brain.
    i also have different sizes and textures of rocks, she loves using them as furniture and specially around shedding time, she rubs EVERYTHING its so adorable

    I've found that feeding my leopard gecko in a bit darker lighting actually helps him to catch the food better. I'm guessing this is because they would be eating in the dark in the wild. It's a bit harder because I can't see though lol

    Your channel has been an amazing source of information for me in learning how to look after my first leopard gecko. I've had her three weeks now and she's settling in great. I've read and watched other guides but it's particularly useful to have a UK perspective as product avaiability varies a lot and all my other sources are from the US and Canada. I've been trying Chickpea (my gecko) with as many feeders as I can - I didn't know locusts were an option as reptile shop only had huge ones, but I guess they don't start out that size... I will try her with some smaller ones. Thanks again!

      Mealworms aren’t the healthiest staple and definitely shouldn’t be the only thing you’re feeding. A varied diet is best. Live crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.

    • @nightinggale6470

      I recommend using soil. Or, if you want something they can eat, pollard or mill run. Oats and wheat bran contain phytic acid, which binds calcium.

      For leopard geckos: Live crickets, roaches, locusts, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae can be fed regularly. Mealworms, super worms, and hornworms can be fed occasionally. The more variety in their diet, the better.
      For baby crested geckos: You can feed small crickets, roaches, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae. They can have small hornworms once they’re big enough (hornworms get very big, very quickly).

      dude you totally should, just do enough research before you get one, as long as your changing lightbulbs once they go out thats all good for heat, and my gecko is on a diet of only crickets, mealworms and such can make them sick if they have too many, its like equivalent to a human eating a cupcake basically, but they’re good for little treats!! and for young leopard geckos your gonna wanna feed them every single day, but once their older you should start feeding them like twice a week. i feed mine on monday and thursday :) im still a first time gecko owner and its awesome having one!!

    HI, just wanted to thank you for all the great videos, me and my daugther got the reptile frenzy recently after her pet hamster died of old age. So we have been doing research for the last 3 day like 5 to 6hrs a day on youtube because for us its very important to care well for our animals. We made our choice that a Leopard gecko will be our next guess in our house. Im slowly buying the supplies before we get the Gecko so we have everything we need. We have a local pet shop that specialized in reptile that open recently but I'm torn. all their animals seems healty but some of the information they gave me seems iffy. Like using calcium sand as a substrate when pretty much everybody on the internet says I shouldn't. But I'm also not to keen on getting one at the local big box petco. Whats your take on it. The small pet shop have an amazing looking tangerine baby for 120$can (like 70 pounds) does that sound fair. Anyway thx again for the great info. We subsribed of course.

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  3 роки тому

      Awww, it's good you're getting all prepared beforehand. So if there's a baby thats only a few weeks old, it seems healthy (and maybe if they breed their own they can show you the parents), then I think that'll be fine, you don't have to follow their advice, certainly not about the calcium sand :)

      Make sure UA-cam isn’t your only source of info, there’s lots of misinformation on UA-cam. The care guide on the website reptifiles has good information.
      Where to buy: Avoid chain petstores. Check out reptile expos and Craigslist. Look for reputable local petstores and breeders. Check morph market, just research the breeder before buying. Avoid BHB, underground reptiles, LLL, backwater reptiles, snakes at sunset, and cb reptiles. Aim for smaller hobbyist breeders rather than large scale breeders.

    I got my first leopard gecko a few months back, don't worry I have done much research, and he has grown quite a bit. Although I feed him a good diet of a cricket or two with a few meal worms and the same with dubia roaches but I would really like to know if that is a good diet for his growing stages, (he is about four or five months old at this point). I do supplement with calcium powder that doesn't have D3 and a vitamin powder with his food. I just would like to know if there is anything else I should feed for his growing body. Also, his belly is growing chubby and his tail is a nice size, am I over feeding him possibly? I feed him every other day.

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 3 роки тому

      Keep in mind that mealworms aren’t healthy for their main diet and should make up no more than 25% of their diet. You can feed him small silkworms and black soldier fly larvae. You can also feed him occasional super worms and hornworms if you can find ones small enough. The more variety in their diet, the better.
      Do your multivitamins contain d3? Also, what’s your dusting schedule?

      @@Elena-jj6eb I usually recommend the same thing (daily under six months, every other day between 6-12 months). But the Leopard Gecko - Advancing Husbandry group (a group that goes off of factual, scientific evidence and up to date info) recommends feeding every other day from 4-6 months. Spot clean whenever you see poop. If you go bioactive the cleanup crew will do most of the cleaning for you. If you have a non-bioactive loose substrate you can honestly get away with not changing it for several months, as long as you keep up with spot cleaning and it doesn’t get gross.
