    1) It all starts with the feet

    3) The harder you stomp/ use your feet, the most waist you'll have!

Finally someone says something that's true about punta, I hate when some people refer to punta as ritmo catracho, I to my point of view catracho is a Honduran word but it has nothing to do with the garífuna culture or music, punta should be referred to as garífuna rhythm, garífuna music not no ritmo catracho because it isn't honestly. So thank you for pointing out the true.

Let me get this right "catracho" is a different dance? Let me also ask the difference between Garfiuna and Bomba?

I believe is best to say is an afro Caribbean sound. I am Honduran and I considered Garifuna Drums as part of our cultural background like it or not we are all born in the Caribbean.

Respectfully I am going to comment on your history.
I don’t think we Hondurans are arguing where Punta comes from.
It is an African rhythm. Rhythm that wasn’t brought to the land by the Spanish or the indígenas to Honduras. it was the Garífuna them self when they move to Honduras. Now days it’s “Punta Catracha” similar to other rhythms like, Salsa Cubana, Salsa Puertoriqueña, Salsa Caleña…
You also have to give credit to Hondurans because of them the Punta is well known Internationally.

For research dance purposes I can find more history about the dance in Saint Vincent? I don't see anyone doing this dance, as an American I am African first then Native so I am grateful that You've stated this. I would love to source this in my writing. Thanks. Also I will go to all the places you mentioned as I research the dance.

There is a rich Garifuna culture in Belize as well! We celebrate Garifuna Settlement Day on Nov 19 throughout the whole country! 🇧🇿

Thank you! Unfortunately you won’t see much Punta in St Vincent because the culture was stripped and wasn’t allowed to be practiced after the Garinagu were exiled back in the late 1790s. People are working on bringing back the culture in St Vincent. To see more culture, you can visit Honduras, Belize and Guatemala.

How I learn the history was: soka is Garífuna. Punta is combination of Mayan dance and soka. It called punta because it is said that the combination of Mayan dance and soka was created when the Great Lempira died. It said that they dance around his body from head to toe to celebrate his life. The dance it is to celebrate life the beginning and end. Each hand movement is either Mayan or garífuna that honor the gods.
