Lightyear was just a terrible movie in general that butchered Buzz Lightyear as a character, Disney just used the LGBT kiss scene as a marketing poly to deflect real criticism of the movie and oh boy did it backfire on their face.

Things they shouldve done with LIGHTYEAR:
    1. Use Tim Allen.
    2. The plot shouldve been like watching saturday morning cartoons, good vs evil. They didnt need to make it as deep.
    3. Make him a space ranger for the whole movie, he was so dull and felt like he had his wings clipped the entire movie.
    4. Make Buzz a true leader, the smartest in the room.
    5. Dont mess with the lore, just have Zurg be his dad or keep it a mystery for the entire film. The movie shouldve gave off the same vibe as the opening scene of Toy Story 2.

I don't get the criticism of them changing the lore around Zurg. That was a joke and a reference to Star Wars, in an exchange between toys. You are assuming that the toys were programmed to follow the actual plot of the show in their secret life that humans don't see. It's like when kids play with their dolls and create their own storylines, which often don't match what happened in the source material. In their play world, Zurg was Buzz's father.

If Lightyear had actually been the movie they said it was going to be - the 80s action sci-fi movie that got Andy hooked on Buzz Lightyear - it would've been a fun movie and probably a big success, even with alphabet hooey sprinkled over it. But it wasn't that movie - it was a drab, dull, washed out looking, deconstruction of heroes. Yuck. At least the robot cat was cute.

No, you forget: it wasn't the _toy_ lightyear - the film was about the _actual_ Lightyear that the toy was based on...oh no wait, it was the future,..oh yes, it was the _movie_ that was shown in the Toy Story Universe that the kid watched that the toy was inspired by. Only, in the toy business they were, y'know, in financial difficulties so they got the toy made in a sweatshop elsewhere, and they couldn't afford the guy who played Buzz in the movie that was shown in the movie Toy Story so they got in this cheaper actor to voice the toy, hence him having a different voice in Toy Story - cos Buzz isn't the Real Fictional Buzz, he's like a cheap knock-off "Buzz" that they shipped out. Once the toys took off and re-energized their business Toyz4U (that's their name) then made the Toy "Buzz" the _actual_ voice of Buzz in the movie - you see they remastered the film on re-release and replaced the actor who originally voiced Buzz to be more in line with their current toy line.
This caused a small legal battle that ended in a payout (we assume, as the details were never made public in any Toy Story movie).
There's a documentary that you can watch on WeTube if you're in any Toy Story movie past the third one (when the interweb took off in it), and you could stream movies and content (mad) where the guy says how he was short-changed and loyal fans all say how unfair it was as he's such a good actor.
Now ironically he voices the cheap knock-offs that you can buy in Pound-stores. (Though people are thinking about sueing as the batteries have a habit of expanding and melting "Bizz's" (cheap typo 🙄) jetpack off if left unchanged. That's according to a newspaper you can just about read as a camera goes past a bin in the street in Toy Story 4.
It's kinda sad, and hard to relate to as thankfully this sort of thing doesn't happen in the real world.

My mom tells me the story everytime how when I was like 2, how my grandpa walked back into Disneyland, all the way to the very first merch stand I saw when we went there as a family and got me my Buzz Lightyear plushie that I still have to this day 22 years later.
I had pajamas, bought collectibles, loved the cartoon show, hell I nearly got a Star Command tattoo a few weeks ago because I love the character, and Tim Allen is one of my all time favorites because he is the voice of Buzz Lightyear.
That said, I did not see this movie in theaters and still have not seen it. And it’s not because it was “woke” or had a quick lesbian kiss. Hell, if I can perve out for a second, having two hot space ranger chicks sharing a passionate kiss may have actually gotten more people to show up to see it. Let’s be real here.
Anyway, I haven’t seen the movie because it just looked BORING. I know it’s been said before, but it needs repeating, this was supposed to be “The movie that made Andy LOVE Buzz Lightyear.” And let me tell you, as someone who grew up the youngest of 3 with two older brothers and became the oldest of 3 with two younger step brothers who were super into sci-fi, comic books, video games, and all things geek culture, let me say with total and all confidence that NO FIVE YEAR OLD BOY (Andy’s age in the first Toy Story) WOULD SEE THIS INTERSTELLAR KNOCK OFF AND WANT A BUZZ LIGHTYEAR.
What should’ve been Pixar’s Guardians of the Galaxy or Galaxy Quest, was just trash. Lesbians have nothing to do with why they missed the mark so much.

Here are all the main male characters in Inside Out 2; Riley's dad, Anger, Fear, Ennui.
Practically the entire cast is female. The film is currently the 8th best selling film of all time. And it's great.
This is the thing. They just made a good film. They didn't make it about women, for women, by women. It made sense to have almost all women, they did that, and it's good. That's how it should be. If you're having to shout about it and wave a flag, you're kinda missing the point.

It wasn't Disney that came out and said that Lightyear failed because of the gay themes. It was former Pixar employees that came out to IGN and talked about the higher ups that made sure there were no gay themes at all in Inside Out 2. So that has people jumping to the conclusion that Disney must have recognized that the gay themes in Lightyear and Strangeworld didn't do those movies any favors, besides being bad films

It's hilarious because Lightyear's target audience is children, which means the film SHOULD have scored huge in the box office. The fact that it did not means most parents didn't take their kids to see it, not because the parents told their kids no, but because the kids weren't interested. I've never seen or heard a kid talk about the Lightyear movie, they literally don't seem to care.

When there is no talent anything will become an excuse, maybe the high ranks and investors do believe that bullshit or are just fine with it. Also, ok content is getting worse and worse becuase of lack of talent and agenda but....Where do they film these things, in Venezuela or NorthKorea?? Its stupid crazy the way budgets keep rocketing, only in a sinking countrie´s economy could the steep increments of sequels of cartoons, or any other content for that matter, could be explained. Seriously, money involved is that of ancient royal courts, its outrageous! All for content that is becoming more boring and more stupid on top.
