    This summer I had the ability to turn Atlantic Bonito into makos 😂. This summer I had some really good bones about 25 miles off AC. Before I shark fish I set out a tuna spread of small feathers cedars and small ballyhoo to try to get albies for bait. Idk why this year I barely had albies but in their place were bones. I had 1 pushing 13lbs and it hit a sterling tracker 😂. I was still using them for sharks and I hadn't had a mako in close to 4 years and this year I had 3. 2 in the 125lb class and one over 250. It is so hard to have to let them go

    I really wish they would build the rock jetty they were supposed to build at Oregon Inlet. Make it about 3 miles long would be nice. Only sharks here right now. Didn't even find sheepshead the other day. Great vid. Good back water stuff.

  • @shephusted2714
    @shephusted2714 9 місяців тому

    good variety on this one - the small bluefish are prime mako bait - of course you have to have perfect day to be able to go out a little bit more but if there is bait there are small makos and they are fantastic to eat - do double check the regs i think they have to be 54"
    I stand corrected : The federal government is shutting down fishing of a popular species of shark to try to give the animals a chance to recover from population decline.
    The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), shut down shortfin mako fishing today. They sharks long been prized by sports fishermen, as well as by seafood fans, who use them to make steaks. According to NOAA, in 2020, recreational anglers landed more than 1.1 million pounds of Atlantic shortfin mako shark.
    NOAA says the ban on mako fishing has no set end date and will depend on the status of the species. The agency says the mako population is difficult to rebuild because the fish have slow population growth rates.
    North Carolina regulationsalready prohibit the fishing of the less common longfin mako in coastal waters and three miles out into the Atlantic Ocean.

    Great watch. Something you may not appreciate, Elias: go to 12:31 and take a moment to take in the skyline behind you. You catch a lot of fish, but if you get to see that even once a week, I'm not sure it matters.
    A video I'd like to see from you is the story of your relocation to NC, the learning curve, how you figured out what to throw at what, what were the things you built on from your NE fishing, what did you have to learn that surprised you.
    Cheers.

    I know you don’t keep redfish very often where you live. You should try this recipe on one and it would work on black drum and specks as well.
    Lightly season with cajun seasoning, bread lightly with Italian breadcrumbs or panco. Pan sear with a little olive oil…when crispy on both sides, top with shredded parmigiana on one side. Cover with lid about 30 seconds just to let the cheese melt. I know a lot of folks don’t like cheese on fish but this was amazing.
    Just an idea for you.

      Try this one on for size next time. Marinate your red drum (or crappie are great too) fillets in Dijon or yellow mustard. Put in fridge. Next in a large zip lock mix half hot seafood breader and half pulverized frito lays corn chips(mix together well). Heat oil to 350F(I like canola oil). Drop fillets in breader bag to coat directly before putting in the oil. When they float and are brown and crispy they are done. I'm gonna try your recipe real soon. Thanks so much and God bless. 🙏🐟😉
