    I had high liver enzymes from contracted viral hepatitis from a baby. It was 1,154 ALT (was supposed to be between 0-34). I had a second blood test 10 days later - down to 159 (so not liver cancer!). I’m still having digestive, and post-viral issues but doctor said it might take 3-6 months to feel back to normal. I’m taking it easy. Eating veg etc… the worst thing is post viral I’m gone off eggs which I used to love and eat a lot of! 😢😂❤

I was eating pretty much just beef and eggs...now eating other meats and fish, beef 2/3 times a week now. Feel great though but blood results tell a different story. Maybe it's too much beef? I drank a lot since I turned 21. Am 30 now and recently did a blood test, my ALT level is 69, up from 28. (I binged basically nightly, and the worst was when I day drank. Felt terrible and it happened more often than I care to admit.)
    I'm afraid I hurt my liver but I am going to go for a while with no alcohol before drinking any more, and I'll regularly test my blood for any hope of recovery...

    Well done, very educational beyond the typical google search! I've been a bit concerned as my AST/ALT have slowly been creeping up over the last few years, albeit both were still in reference range until March of 2021 when my ALT spiked to 60 IU/L. My AST was still in range at 37 at that time. I'm 5'8, 176lbs, 37 y/o male. When I was younger, I drank heavily until 2015, but have cut back a little bit with each passing year. When I saw that bloodwork, I cut back even further. By the time I was tested again in November of 2021, the ALT dropped to 45 & AST down to 26... Fast forward to April 2022, I once again picked up exercising 3-4 days a week for months, cut back to only a drink or two twice a month & had lost six pounds. The AST dropped again to 25, but the ALT was still at 45. I was perplexed as to why the ALT didn't drop further. I did notice that the levels started gradually increasing right when I started taking Cholestoff Plant Sterols & Fish Oil. I've changed to Flaxseed Oil & have stopped the Cholestoff... Fingers crossed for the next labs - I'm just hoping I didn't do irreparable damage from the partying as a youngen :/

      @@voiciray I was able to get my liver healthy again, it's hard to say exactly what did the trick... But diet/exercise were likely the biggest contributors IMO. I started working out 3-5x a week (50/50 cardio vs/ resistance) and switched to a higher protein/unsaturated fat, lower carb diet (not keto by any means, just skewed in that direction). I also added choline/milk thistle at the same time. I lost another ten pounds in the process, so naturally that has been of big benefit too. Within only a few weeks of throwing all those things at it, I was back down to the mid 20s for ALT and I've been around 22/23 ever since. AST/GGT right around the same level. So I most likely had a fatty liver issue that was ongoing, though not confirmed. Keeping up the routine since then has kept the levels normal. FWIW, I also switched to a krill oil supplement instead of flaxseed & added L-Theanine as well, primarily for focus, though it's antioxidant effects may have had a positive contribution as well.

      Those who are reading this comment - I have experienced the same. After 2 rounds of bloodwork, I was able to trace it to the CMV virus which generally is asymptomatic in most healthy people, or will only cause a mild flu like illness. The CMV virus is extremely common in the general population, but when it is active, it messes up your liver which regulates your glucose, potentially resulting in elevated AST and ALT and also elevated bloodwork.

    What do I do with high GGT enzymes from epilepsy meds? I took myself off two a week for 20 weeks. I had a huge grand mal seizure, fell off a 2m wall in my backyard, and broke my neck, nose, ribs.
    I've been taking them for 45 yrs. There all toxic, but I can't live without them.
    My fibrosis is 0-1
    Should I be concerned?
    My ALP & AST I think are 16
    But the GGT is over 100, I can't remember off hand.
    How do I get that GGT down?
    Thanks

      I've been on 10 different ones. The side effects are worse than the epilepsy. So back I go on the original ones. There ALL TOXIC to the liver. I accepted my epilepsy at 16, but some Dr. phoned late with my blood test and said, I have liver fibrosis and its irreversible. That really tipped me over. But my epilepsy is worse than my liver. I've lost 30kg, got walking, cut all sugar, seed oil , alcohol out. I. Not a big drinker, and I'm a home cook. Those tablets are full of confectionery sugar.
      My Dr. doesn't care. I'm quickly in and out
      NEXT. He just brushes off my liver. He won't give me a ultra sound to check it, no referral to a nutritionist, I'm grateful I'm alive. It's those tablets my liver is trying to cope with.
      Thankyou so much.

This weekend my blood work showed ALK phos 285, ALT 70. Everything is normal, slight anemia, iron & b12 deficiency. I am really worried because this gastritis has impacted my life and school but I am getting off adderall in hopes of improving my liver enzymes. I’m not really sure what else could be the cause. My diet does consist of a lot of red meat too but Idk what I can do. The root cause seems confusing.

    Can your liver enzymes get slightly elevated in ALT if you been drinking lots of alcohol before the blood test and the doctor says it indicates liver inflammation but the doctor looks at computer results and says it doesnt say alcoholic hepatitis? Can elevated liver enzymes sometimes be mistaken for indicated markers of liver inflammation if units in alt are higher than 56? And you dont have liver inflammation at all but rather the doctor assumed it was inflammation but just elevated enzymes and you dont necessarily have to stop drinking alcohol?

    • @swintegrative

    on the home test kits so I had it for apx 10 days) my bloodwork showing the GGT score of 87 was taken on 25 Jan, 2023, I'm wondering if maybe that's all it was, ie left over infection

      AIH can be very serious with very high levels. hopefully your issues have resolved around this but I am doing a free live stream next Thursday. Not sure we will cover AIH but you can submit your questions in the comments of this post (link below) or live during the stream. What does it mean when you have elevated GGT + Ferritin but normal ALT/AST/Ultrasound/MRI scans? My husband has been doing keto (sometimes OMAD) + IF for 2 years and these two markets GGT + Ferritin are still so stubborn and don't wanna come down. Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks so much!

    • @swintegrative
      @swintegrative  2 роки тому

      Ferritin is probably from too much animal products or overall inflammation it is hard to tell (need more testing). GGT is high for other reason likely (alcohol is a common cause).

    • @JT1358
      @JT1358 Рік тому

      Ferritin can be elevated for many reasons - it's very non-specific. Common things such as a throat infection or a cold will do it, even if you are not aware of really being poorly.

    I had a blood test following low libido and I had elevated liver enzymes both around the 80/100 mark
    I train jui jitsu and the gym 3/5 times a week but I also notice weakness and I never get muscle pump, would this be a sign of insulin resistance, although my blood glucose are pretty much bang on? I keep trying to get into doctors but I constantly get fobbed odd considering going private tbh really fed up with feeling and looking withdrawn and not full!

    Hi doc! I read muscle injury can elevate liver enzymes. In my case my got is 300 gpt is 670 gamma gt is 70. I lost about 25 pounds from stopping anabolic steroids. I am wondering if my weight loss from mostly muscle could make my enzymes higher on top of the liver toxicity from abusing aas? I have no symptoms and my other bloodwork panels are good. But this enzyme levels looks horrific to me.

Bilirubin is normal and every other parameters are normal now. Although I am some medication and I hope it won’t spike it up, the doctor placed me on livoline forte to help reduce it and I am always doing intermittent fasting.
