Is NYC's Best Pizza in CHINATOWN? Is Scarr's Pizza Worth The Hype?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 лют 2024
- Out of all the best pizzas in New York City, Scarr's Pizza is not only one that I get recommended the most frequently, it is also the most interesting pizza joint to me. Scarr's Pizza in Chinatown is located in a neighborhood that you wouldn't think to be a hub for pizza. Indeed it is not, as the vast majority of foods in that neighborhood are Asian foods and not a pizza joint. So it's really saying a lot if a pizza shop in Chinatown is regarded as one of the best pizzas in NYC.
Scarr's PIzza was closed for a bit due to a fire but has since reopened. It has gotten some mixed reviews since reopening, with some people saying it's one of the best slices in NYC still, or at least one of the best pizzas in Manhattan, while others say it has fallen off. We will find out together! Scarr's Pizza may no longer be a hidden gem like it once was, as now there is often a line out the door, but it is still one of the less well-known pizza shops in NYC. We will see if it lives up to the hype and if it's one of the best restaurants in Chinatown and one of the best pizzas in New York in general!

You're quickly becoming my favorite, uh... foodtuber? I love how you keeo things casual and friendly, give legitimate criticism, but ALWAYS give credit when it's due. It feels like a friend telling me about where they've eaten and making recommendations!
UA you are one of my favorite you tubers
Great review, and welcome home! I haven't been down there yet, but I've heard good things. For me, 90% of the time, I'm a pizza purist. I want my NYC cheese slice. With that being said, this version looks great! No flop, thin, crispy and doughy at the same time. Would I go all the way downtown just to try it? Probably not. But, I'd definitely pop in if I were down there. Thanks again, UA!
Looks soooo good!
Love your content UA!
bummer about the fire. Looks like they remodeled. Part of the appeal for me was that the inside looked like you were going back 50 years to a 70's pizza place.
If you like that 70s/80s vibe, check out Paulie Gee’s Slice Shop in Brooklyn.
UA, since this is your most recent video, you might read this. I know you have a passion for steak, especially in New York City. Please try my hidden gem steakhouse that you will absolutely love. It's called the west side steakhouse. 571 10th Ave., right off W. 43rd St. in Manhattan. looking forward to seeing your review
I loved the old place with that old Time Machine feel back to the 70s. Kind of reminds me of my neighbors house back in the 70s when he had a bar
Good review ive Bern trying to get reservations at 4 Charles prime rib and it books in seconds I'm always on notify me I have easier time getting into raos
I went to Scarr’s Thought it was overrated. I really prefer Joe’s for a great slice and John’s for the best pie.
Agreed. Scarrs is more expensive and not as good as Joe’s
will try joes , i went to scars couple days ago this vidoe was posted and when i went the line moved fast i was like ok then i got 3 cold slices never again 😂😂
Ok portnoy
JMO. 🤡
It depends on what you’re looking for. To me Scars has a better texture that I look for
Thank you for introducing this Pizza place!
That pepperoni slice looked awesome! I've never been a fan of cheese only. Thanks UA!
I’d rather eat cheese than eyelids, assholes and lips in spices and made into a sausage
Love your Vegas videos! I’m big and round- 436 pounds, but I Love seafood Pizza 🍕…Rock & Rolla UA…❤❤❤😂😂
I don't think any new yorker considers Scarrs in Chinatown.Once you go east of Allen street, that's LES my dude.
It's like on the borderline. Vanessa's Dumpling House and King Dumplings are down the street. I think it's lower east side as well.
I live in LES and while I agree with you, technically anything south of Hester and west of essex is considered Chinatown. Scarr's is right on the border. So is Clockwork, the punk dive, on Essex. If your searching apartmetns on street easy it won't pick up scarr's block if your looking in LES.
@@ashofaphoenix Definitely disagree with that assessment. 90% of the storefronts in that area are not chinese, nor are the residents, or the customers.
Can’t believe what you say when you’re wearing an Eagles hat. Just kidding. Nice review. I like Bleeker Street Pizza. Just came across your channel. Good luck. I feel your channel will grow slowly only because I’ve never seen it before.
FYI there’s an Italian sandwich shop down the block called Regina’s Grocery. Also excellent.
Love Regina's! UA you should do a review (and Champion Pizza please)
During the entire review you never took a single bite of the crust, lol. Also NY cheese is all great compared to other cities, really ? That's a pretty bold statement there UA, lol.
Good observation !
Everybody knows the rules.
@@BlackJesus8463 apparently not
Looks pretty good. I have only eaten at a few New York pizza joints, but the 3 I recall that I thought were great were NY PIzza Suprema by Penn Station, La Bellezza Pizza on 49th St. near Lexington avenue, and Underground Pizza by Wall Street.
this is much better
You did a great job showing the gluten stretchiness of the crust! Nice job!
U gotta try out "Jubilee's market" cheese sliders in Brooklyn. The owner based his sliders off of white manna. It's only $2.55. just ate there and many it's pretty damn good for the price. And I don't know if the owner can continue to keep it at that price. I had a little chat with him and he said they're losing money on each slider. And he's hoping the money the supermarket generates can allow them to continue keeping it at that price. So I don't know if it'll stay at that price for long. I say you get there before it ends or gets more expensive.
Friends don’t let friends eat floppy pizza!
😂
Hopefully you can do Jersey shore boardwalk pizzas come summer
Great idea!
Amore at 58th and 9th is currently my favorite plain slice.
YUMMY! 😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
I really recommend you try Louie & Ernie’s Pizza in the Bronx! It’s great pizza and worth reviewing!
My son lives in The Bronx. When I visit him we always go to Louie & Earnie's. The pizza is great.
Yeah their pizza is religiously loved by East Bronx residents. The restaurant is inside a residential neighborhood, in fact it’s literally built into a house
Ok Muppet Baby 😂
I love Louie & Ernies, I was there Monday. Best sausage in the city, but you're getting a little flop
Love Louie and Ernie’s!
My job brings me to Newark, NJ airport. I drive to Chinatown for this all the time
Scarr's is about the sourcing of great ingredients and the pizza maker, Scarr Pimentel
Doesn't look very appealing
@@jasonmirabile5184 video does not do it justice
You knocked it out the park once again UA! I am from NYC but never tried Scarr -looks like I'm missing out. I plan on changing that asap!
Nyc has so many great pizzerias, still have more to review!!!
U making me hungry UA not fair!
Love Scarrs. Their white pie is great too
If you're into a spicy slice Freddy peppers on the upper west side makes a great chicken mole slice but they only make it on Fridays and Saturdays
you really got some balls repping that eagles beanie all over nyc lol
We were in New York last week from Alabama and had our first New York slice at Roma’s by Macy’s. Sat beside the road and it was so good. Have you eaten there and if so, What’s your thoughts?
I continue to be impressed at how carefully you monitor your sensations and then analyze what you ate how you reacted to it and then most important, how the ingredients and their preparation led to the result. Food culture not only survives but advances because of people who think like you. You think like a cook, not a reviewer. As a cook, if you're not quite happy with something you are honest about it and try to understand why and imagine how to improve. Those who don't will never get better in a whole lifetime. I'm prejudiced but I I always think the simplest dishes are the best. A piece of good bread, a good steak, a beautiful tomato, a bowl of perfect rice--just eat them plain and what more could you ask? Why try to create some novel thing like that pizza where you can predict that extra honey and wet peppers are going to ruin the crust?
I only want floppy pizza, so these looked delicious
I've got another astoria rec for ya, UA! In addition to the ones I mentioned in previous vids...for pizza, give Sotto la Luna a try! :)
Try the sausage and pepperoni pie from John's of bleecker st. Its the best🍕🍕regular pie to is great.
Some insight about Italian food that is true to the regions, cities and towns of Italy rather than a century of Italian-American cooking that is very different: Great Italian food is simple and shows off great products prepared correctly - the opposite of the American (and Italian-American) attitude that more is better. The star of a true Italian pizza in its various forms is the dough, fermented properly to develop flavor and, when cooked, the right texture. Toppings are meant to compliment the dough, not overwhelm it. They can be as simple as possible extra virgin olive oil and sea salt as in Piazza Bianca.
I went to the pizza place you went to and had a bad experience it scarrs me!
😆 so many scars from different pizzerias
@@NoahEats U never noah what is gonna happen?!
"They say?" Certain politicians say that a lot!
😆
Scarr’s is the best… I like to keep it in the family🤣
The pizza master is rocking the yakuza tats
1 place that only recently started getitng a lot of hype (on social media at least) - luigi's in park slope brooklyn... just the plain slice - imo best classic ny style slice in the 5 boroughs... it's worth the hype and it's very modestly priced... gio owns the building. I was there the other day, got a slice, calzone and large fountain soda for 11 bucks total - can't beat it ... and it's not good for the price... id pay double easily for the slice but Gio keeps it affordable for everyone
There's Margherita's on Jamaica Ave in Queens and Gabby's on Hillside and Francis Lewis in Queens... best in nyc
When i saw Bro pick it up, i heard Dave yelling about his Jacks pizza he cooked himself😂😂😂😂
It’s likely added to the plain over the other slices. Adding the extra flavor might overpower the flavor of the meats and other toppings.
Great! Now Im hungry for pizza!!
Me too! But that's almost every day for me
Me too!
lol
Pizza is a "less is more" food for me. Plain cheese slice, great ingredients, great execution. All you need 🤌
Agree on all fronts!
Simple with great ingredients and a pizziola who is experienced make a great pizza pie
💯
THANK GOD for fast forward!
playback speed
That looks like a slice you would get in the mall
Pizza looks good how much a slice big one there good to know
I get so jealous when you do NY pizza.
Jalapeños and pepperoni on pizza is a classic combo. Hot honey is a little redundant. If you want some extra sweetness to cut the spice, try adding pineapple to the jalaps and pepps.
UA, go to California and review some food! Go to a specific part like San Diego and maybe focus on a type of food.. sushi? Mexican? Italian? Hope you’re doing well!
@Bobbydigtail17 hes been to langers for their pastrami in downtown los angeles and of course in n out
6th 👍 Hi UA! Hi EVERYONE 👋
You’re eating pizza in New York and not even doing the New York fold? Rookie move
I hate the way he chews he has a face that you want to punch.
I'm not from NYC, but every time I've been there I've gone to Two Boots Pizza. I always really liked them, but I'm guessing New Yorkers don't like it very much compared with all the other places you've been going to.
Definitely try other places. Two Boots is better Than most, but not the best
@@NoahEats I want to try L'Industrie now that UA and J. Weissman have endorsed it, but I'm a little concerned about the long wait.
Two boots is fine… but you need to expand your pizza horizons!
@@scharocks Yeah I hear ya, next time I'm in NY I really do want to try L'Industrie.
I’m from NYC and love Two Boots. I like the Mr. Pink with chicken. I also like the atmosphere especially at the Avenue A location. It’s just not as trendy with the media and food bloggers because it has been around a long time!
That's awesome! I always get a slice of white ricotta too....can't get it in Toronto. That's really cool that there's great pizza in Chinatown.
How come you didn’t go over the prices?
Oops! My mistake, I forgot to include them. The plain slice was $3.75 and the ones with toppings were $4.75
Last time i was there it was $4. Now more
$4-5 each
Those thin slices….😖..I would easily need 4-5..
@@uaeatsFull Time YT'er 💪
Is Sacco,s pizza still open I wonder ? Oki googled it yes Saccos on 9 th avenue in Manhattan always had a classic thin nyc style slice .
Wheated in Flatbush Brooklyn all the way 🙌
Thanks for the suggestion!
Their crust looks really good but everything else just looks so so... especially the plain slice, it looks like it lacks of sauce and cheese. Are they holding out? I've had their pizza before and it looks a lot better before than it does now. Hope they still taste the same... 🤔
The ingredients at Scarr's are still great but I find it's gotten floppier over time. Still like it quite a bit, though.
Looks like an electric oven they are still trying to dial that in and alot depends on the humidity
Do any NYC pizzarias still sell authentic Sicilian pizza? I really miss those square pies. 😋
Sicilians are still commonly found.
Try Ace’s Pizza in Williamsburg!!! 🍕🍕🍕🍕🍕💥💥💥
I've never been to Scarr's, but the new place doesn't seem the same. Their pizzas look thinner and floppier, their offerings too diverse. They used to use an old Baker's Pride gas oven, now it looks all electric. I think that's the reason.
Any Pizzeria that puts honey on a slice won't get my business.
you're supposed to fold a nyc pizza in half
Once again the flip flop Eagles logo . Mirroring dude 😑😑
I guess I’m kind of old school. On my pie I like it plain, pepperoni, sausage, meatballs or mushrooms.
What does UA stand for?
Hi UA,
I love your channel… Can’t wait to meet you someday and get your autograph and picture… When I go up to New Jersey, we have to meet at Hanks Frank’s on route 46 E. ❤
My top 10 in nyc
My wife loves the thin crust pizza.
love the content UA. thoughts on giving out numerical ratings out of 10 for reviews?
You will like NY Pizza Suprema (behind Penn Station) better. More crunch - more everything. Try it.
say “I’m ua and I eats” 🙏😫
You gotta fold it bro.
an eagles cap? youre brave to wear that in the city
You do good reviews BUT YOU DO NEED TO start to include the exact addresses along with the general locations so that people don't have to look them up.
How much per slice?
Too much.
If you've been hearing from people that it's "hands down the best pizza", then you need to listen to other people. It isn't. Scars was actually the first pizza place I ever went to in New York and I found it just serviceable, there are loads better dude. Honestly you want the best? Go to Totonos in Coney Island, best you'll ever have!
A “little bit floppy”?! I’d hate to see what you think is REAL floppy. 😳
advice on flop test. with ny slices, you judge the pizza after folding it to the test of the gluten strength in the crust. therefore, ny pizza should not be crispy/crunchy on a standalone which would be straight as a board. once you've folded it, if it still flops then it's a bad NY pizza.
Anyone who thinks that looks good needs a serious education on pizza, and why on earth would anyone put honey on pizza?
Hey look, the self-proclaimed Kobe Bryant “know it all”
back in NYC like he woke up from a vegas
NY has the best, absolutely the best, Pizza, Hot Dogs, Bagels, and Sandwiches in the world!
2nd Runner up among the World in Asian food too!
California got way better Asian food than NY.
We are Lucky in NYC. So glad there are so many options and I too can share reviews too
@@Foreign84 Cali definately has Better Korean and Vietnamese food- yes!
Chinese, Japanese, Singaporean, Malay and Thai- I'd still say NYC; higher profit margins, and lower taxes attract more talented Asian chefs to NYC.
@@Foreign84NYC definitely has better Chinese food. That said, you'll struggle to find a decent bahn mi here
@@Foreign84I agree, I live on the east coast and the Chinese is horrible. Best is in San Francisco
just missed it
That is Lower East Side
UA, when you do a premiere at noon, start at noon. Don’t start the countdown at noon.
I don't think that it's his doing, it's really a UA-cam thing
Who hurt you?
That's not in his control. That's how UA-cam does all premieres.
@patrickwong4824 actual start time is +2 minutes. just plan for that
UA closes his eyes if it’s good
If you're hungry, even a full pie from Scarr's might not do it for you. Such an insubstantial pizza. In no way worth waiting in line.
i wish toronto had a "line up around the block" type pizza place.
I’m sure if there is, Trudeau will find a way to tax the line
@@sandtoy11510 politics? really?
Definitely, Canada can use some better pizzerias!
We have pizza equivalent to this, but personal preference does matter. NY/NJ pizza, I find tends to be cooked longer than here. What have you tried? North of Brooklyn or Makers are good. Badali's get's good reviews, but I never had it. I used to bring pizzas on carry-on, flying back to Toronto. Funny enough, there's a legit place in Newmarket...but a lot of the "good" pizza here is Naples style, or the crust is way too thick... It's getting better here! Have faith!
Pizzeria Badiali can have some really long lines, I found the pizza to be quite enjoyable
I don't f*ck with anyone that puts honey or ranch on their pizza.
More sauce please, looks dry. Try Tommy’s in the Bronx
Good crunch, Dave Portnoy would have an aneurysm. Looks like an 8.5.
1st of all, Dave would ONLY order plain. The flop would be a flop…7.1
Dave gave it a 7.7 6 years ago. The number 1 comment is for him to do a re do because some other UA-camrs give it very high reviews
Best crust in the city. I'm not sure how some flop got such a bad wrap. True Neapolitan pizza in Italy has a ton of flop
That hot honey slice is floppy af! Tne thing I've learned as a native New Yorker is that Manhattan probably has the worst pizza out of the other 5.
Pizza maker added way too much sauce in the middle, should be crispy all the way through and hopefully they reheated it in the oven too to get that crunch.
Another place to try when im in NYC.
Drench the hot honey on everything, EVERYTHING.
Comment and UA will send you a slice!!
