Sushi 35 West: Hole in the Wall Making NYC's BEST SUSHI!

- Опубліковано 30 лис 2022
- NYC has some of the best sushi outside of Japan. Restaurants like Masa and Sushi Nakazawa are famous Michelin star restaurants. But what if I told you that NYC's best sushi was not at any of these fancy Michelin star sushi restaurants, and it was actually at a hole in the wall? That's right! Sushi 35 West is an absolute hidden gem. It's on the second floor of a retail shop and it's extremely hidden and inconspicuous. If you're looking for a NYC hidden gem there is no New York City hidden gem more hidden than this, or more of a NYC hole in the wall than this. Don't be fooled by its humble appearance though, all the chefs at Sushi 35 West used to work at the world famous Masa sushi. The three Michelin Star Masa in New York City was opened by the world renowned chef Masa Takayama and it is the only sushi restaurant in America to have three Michelin stars. It's widely regarded as one of the best restaurants in the world. This fame, however, has resulted in the restaurant charging a whopping $1,000 per person! Crazy!
However, don't fret! You can eat food prepared by former Masa chefs at Sushi 35 West! This Hidden Gem, one block away from Penn Station, uses all of the techniques at Masa. The fish is meticulously selected, stored, and prepared. All of their menu items are amazing, particularly their salmon nigiri and their ikura nigiri. They also offer toro nigiri, a "toro toro" roll, and affordable omakase.
Craving 3-Michelin star sushi in New York City? Don't want to pay 3-Michelin star prices? Well you don't have to! Sushi 35 West makes some of the best sushi in New York City. It also makes affordable sushi in NYC. Good and cheap is not necessarily mutually exclusive!
So if you're craving cheap omakase but you also want some of the best sushi in NYC, or dare I say some of the best sushi in the USA, or dare I say some of the best sushi in the world even, hit up Sushi 35 West! It is one of NYC's best secret restaurants and one of the best NYC secret eats around. I hope you enjoy the NYC sushi review as well as the NYC sushi mukbang!

I don't even like sushi.
But I'm just writing this in the hopes this piece of engagement gives the channel a bump.
Deserves so many more eyeballs
Wow thanks so much! I appreciate the comment!
Literally sitting at the place right now. Just finished eating the omakase. And holy crap! It's f***ing delicious. Excellent recommendation! The 35 pieces didn't feel like 35 with the rate my GF and I were eating.
I'm glad the omakase is good! I always wanted to try it. Thanks for sharing your experience!
How much does it all end up costing?
@@Palkpilk I think $136
Your channel is an indie gen, shooting from the hip, delivering honest and to-the-point reviews without any filters. Hope to eat at your recommended places whenever I'm in NYC! Thanks for your enthusiastic reviews. keep them coming.
@5:03 anyone else notice the hair on his tuna?😂

You’re the man, UA. Love your unpretentious, informative reviews. I’m curious to know how you discovered these places and how long you’ve been living in NYC for?
Keep making videos man! Good content. Sushi is always good!
Thanks! I agree sushi always hits the spot for me.
Dude your videos are amazing and very informative as well! Hope you could maybe come review food on the West Coast someday...

Thanks for the recommendation as an avid sushi lover who still misses Japan. I am definitely going to check this place out.
You're welcome! I also love Japan and hope to visit again someday soon.
Really enjoyed your videos 👍
Thanks you! Glad you enjoy the content!
UA excellent review. Well done! When you do get ready to travel to do your restaurant reviews please consider coming to Southern California. Looking forward to your next review!
Thank you! Yes I'd love to hit up Southern California for vids someday. Will start traveling for vids when I reach a subscriber threshold
Yeah right he should come to SoCal we're loaded with sushi joints
First time seeing your channel. I can tell you love food! I need to check this place out. 😁👍🏻
Great video and content...Added Sushi 35 to my place to visit in NYC.
Give it a try! It doesn't have much atmosphere but the food is great!
Thanks for the info. I just subscribed to your chanel I lived in NYC for 15 years before moving out, keep up the good work. You seem like a good guy
how love the backwards chop sticks with the salad!
one of my fav
Do they do Deliveries? Yummy, and Thank You, UA for that amazing discovery. 😊
Great video again.... subscribed today.
love your channel. keep it up brother !
Thank you!
Best food review channel right now
You absolutely rock UA !! Found your calling in life .. hope to enjoy a meal one day with you !! Toro is amazing
Thanks for the kind words! I love making these vids and eating great food. I'd be happy to grab a meal someday if we ever cross paths!
I know you love the food when you close your eyes and momentarily go to heaven
Thanks for the recommendation. I loved the Toro.
You're welcome! Wow you ate there after watching this?
I cant wait to go there...
Much respect to those guys. To be that trained,, opening their own space with low overhead, and it looks like they're making their money on volume/take out. I guarantee you those dudes are working 16 hours a day.
They're definitely putting in a lot of work to create a great product, while also charging very reasonable prices. They've only been open one and a half years. If they keep maintaining good quality going forward I know they will be successful
What ever happen to your 35 pieces?
great videos , keep doing what u doing , i will visit all those spots
Thanks for the kind words! And thanks for being here before the video drops!
I love sushi! Definitely on my list. So affordable! I'm one of those people that shakes my salad too. Thanks for the video UA!
Glad you enjoyed the video! And yes salad shaking is the way to go. "Shaken not stirred" (Bond voice)
Another great one UA.
Thank you! Glad you're enjoying the content!
I must try this! I am also eating a lot of sushi these days. Thanks for the tip!
If you love sushi this is a must try! It's also near Penn Station so it's easy to get to
I have to stop watching this video because I'm sitting at work in NJ with my mouth watering and it's driving me crazy! We don't even have bad sushi as an option near where I work. I will definitely head over there the next time I'm in Manhattan.
So your reviews are awesome down to earth and honest this place here really does look like a Hidden Gem in Manhattan great find the sushi looks absolutely awesome and the price wow I would say pretty reasonable for anywhere in the country
Yes it's one of my favorite NYC hidden gems. The best part is the incredibly reasonable prices!
That is nice looking sushi. Reminds me of the sushi I had during my visits to Japan.
great video!! thanks
Glad you enjoyed the vid!
The way you savor food makes it easy to say that the food that you are eating is good.
Looks wonderful
Very tasty and very fairly priced!
Thanks
I'm there dude! Thanks for the recommendation
Love this video
Thanks!
NYC looks so cool, a place like that would never exist anywhere else.
I think you'd be surprised at what hidden gems there are in your city or the closest city to you! But I would agree that NYC is more likely to have a restaurant like this for cheap high quality sushi
I cannot WAIT to try this place soon!
I definitely recommend it!
@@uaeats you had a hair on your tuna @5:30
Dan Aykroyd's love child
I rarely watch food review videos all the way through anymore. But i watched this video twice!
Wow thanks! That's high praise!
Atmosphere? Hole in the wall ? More like lobby to the restrooms. Very romantic on your first date 😅😅😅
UA I agree with your reviews to places I have tried as well so keep up the good work!!! Btw, your doppelganger "Bruce" is starring in the recent Netflix show, "The Brothers Sun" ;-)
Looks good !!
Very tasty!
I have to try this… great review!
I definitely recommend it!
@@uaeats finished just now..:.thank you for this recommendation. Maybe best sushi I’ve had outside Japan and only 50 bucks including a piece of otoro for 10 bucks. OToro absolutely melted in my mouth. 10 piece also had 2 medium fatty tuna pieces. Absolutely incredible taste and value!!!
Fantastic video. Sushi is the best
Thanks! And I agree!
I recognize Herald Square/Greely Square right off the bat. I used to work in that neighborhood. I've walked past this place so many times and never knew it was there. Thanks for the heads up on this sushi place. I love sushi!
i'm always around this will definitely need to stop by! do u know when they opened?
Does UA stand for unauthorized authentic? Great job on the videos buddy!
Great video! Although I did this 🫣🫣 when you mixed the wasabi into the soy sauce with high quality sushi!
I love sushi. This looks really good quality! Altho that said, Sushi is something that cant simply be made as well anywhere else as in Japan. The chefs can be as good everywhere, but Japan just has the largest variation of fresh fish available, and you can have sushi plates with 15 different fish which are all catch that day and out of the world good. I actually like red snapper a lot myself. :D
That place will have a line to the street after today
I hope so! Not sure if I'm big enough yet though to influence people like that. Glad to help do my part though to spread awareness about the place!
delusional lmao
@@uaeats you influenced me. Next time I find myself in Midtown I will have to check this place out.
Fail
FYI: all fish served raw in America has to be frozen first to kill bacteria and parasites, so it’s not technically “fresh”. Also, many fish are “aged”, like steak, for better taste. I work on this block and ate here 3x this week, it’s that good.
I love your videos.
I feel a collab with here be Barr with you would be fun to watch
I'd love to collab with him! Maybe if I grow more it will happen someday!
One of the rare times I have learned something useful on UA-cam. Thanks. BTW, sushi is made to be eaten with your hands, not chopsticks.
🇦🇺😋👍love it ,and the grab and go it a good idea for there shop. A hidden gem .its a 10
Real tuna is good .
Snapper and yellowtail tou wont find in a grab and go sushi in Australia .
Kingfish, prawn, salmon teal and fake crab are the normal here.
It all comes fown to a good sushi rice and a good balance of flavour ,temperature.
Omg I used to live for years on 35th and 8th and never realized this joint was there. I’ve since moved out of the city but one day will be sure to hit up this place!
It's only been open for 1.5 years so you may have missed it. Check it out next time you're around the area!
Will definitely hit this place up. Hopefully it's not going to be too busy by the time we get there. I'm pretty sure a lot of people will go there after watching this video.
Wow, I'm not sure if I'm that influential yet to make a restaurant busy from my videos. I'm just happy to do my part in trying to spread awareness about a great hidden gem!
@@uaeats Don't sell yourself short, your channel will gain a lot of traction if you continue making quality and consistent content like this. I stumbled upon one of your videos and subscribed b/c of the honest and fantasy content. You're going to be big soon.
If this is your favorite sushi place, you should try Sushi Yasaka at west 72nd street
Please god stop mixing the wasabi with soy sauce it is sacrilege. P.S. your channel is incredible so refreshing the honesty.
Brother I grew up fishing in alaska. The y-2 yukon king salmon is the best! You would die for it.
That sounds amazing!
Hi UA, I found you by luck and been binge watching your old videos. Can you make a video that’s family w/ kids friendly that don’t break a arm and leg. Lol
Glad you like my vids! I have done some vids on cheap eats. Check out my vid at White Manna burger in Hackensack, NJ and Best Bagel and Coffee in NYC for affordable and family friendly spots.
This place lived up to the hype
Holy hell I remember bumping into this place and swearing I need to go back but had a hard time finding it again on maps.
@5:34 and @5:02 is that a hair on your bluefin tuna sushi?
I agree with the white fish sushi call in terms of intensity of flavor, but that is why the sushi chef there mentioned the aging of the fish to increase the flavor in the white fish pieces.
That make sense. I loved the yellowtail piece, usually I am not a fan of the white sushi pieces so whatever they are doing is working!
💔💔💔💔Love it yummmmmmmmm
Very tasty!
i am defenetly going there
I mostly care about the food. I get served some premium A5 wagyu steak from a food truck on the cheap, I would gladly have it.
Do a burger or fried chicken series in NYC next time!
Yes actually a burger spot is next on my list!
Looks great! That the sushi does not have a 'fishy flavor' already puts it high on the list of best in NYC. Very difficult to achieve and as was stated in the video, normally reserved for Omakase, which means big $$$$.
UA - you have to eat more to produce more videos.....possible to do some desserts as well? if you can mate
love from Australia
Desserts are a good idea! I'll do some desserts soon. Great suggestion!
It’s so weird that this is my neighborhood Ive probably walked past it 1000 times and never noticed
9:35 I hate when people don't know how to mind their own business. Keep reaching for success my guy. Big things headed your way. Better things.
Your prices are insane! A good dinner in moscow would be $10
im going to be eating fish for the first time in 9 years here tomorrow
Fine dining:
1. Atmosphere
2. Service
3. Food
That's why this place is unknown.
Bronzino?
I’ll have what he’s having. lol 😂
I live in Texas, but this will be on my try list if i ever travel to NYC. Also wanted to say, older dude in the leather jacket turned and gave you stinkeye at one point lol
we need more, so you can replace Mike chen
Please find a way to stop recording your videos with backwards image. It is really annoying. Your content is great and refreshing - just please fix this one amateurish issue.
Do you know if that salmon is wild caught or farm-raised?
Good question! I'll try to find out sometime
19 bucks for that tiny piece of Toro
Sushi restaurant owners laugh all the way to the bank
the cheap wasabi from a tube is often nothing more than horseradish with a tiny bit of wasabi to make it appear green. sometimes theres not even any wasabi in them
The green color is from food coloring.
There isn't any real wasabi in it.
Masa is the only 3 Michelin star restaurant in the US?
Not supposed to mix the wassabi into the soy sauce.
hmm hmm hmm i was waiting for the woman to turn around 😂
UA as in Yui?
It's not Yui
The tuna had hair on it
Too Sour?!, Can never be too sour.
i naver went to Japan
1 in every 3 sushi chefs had “worked” at masa somehow
