We most certainly did not, maybe, okay possibly definitely did steal the double sided threaded adapter idea to work with a slide hammer from SMA... after exchanging a few emails with Eric. Like I said, have no idea what you're talkin' 'bout
You guys should consider making "pro model" tools incorporating input from famous youtube mechanics. Have their signature on the tool, and give them a small royalty, or some kind of cut. Similar to what Nike does with their NBA shoe sponsorships. They sold a lot of Air Jordans! Imagine the marketing reach and instant loyalty this would create for your company. Win win win for everyone!
Spent 3 days replacing all the suspension on my sons 03 passat before he went out west to work in Wyoming. Miserable, 4 ball joints per front wheel, and the tierod all required heat and beat, cutoff wheels and drilling. Gotta love these Michigan cars.
Thank you Eric. The South Main Auto Symphony; air compressor, phone, siren, and the sweet soothing tunes from the brake clean. Mozart would be proud. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week.
That Astro Ball Joint puller saved me from beating my brains out pulling out the old ball joint. I am happy I watched this video. Many thanks for turning me on to that tool.
Josh reminds me of a friend of mine from the 1980's. We didn't have a lift. Nothing makes your ass draw up like pulling 460s,429s, with a come-a-long and a pecan tree limb. Nothing spelled relief like it's bolted down. We was to young to think about dying.
Small fortune of tools that Eric O has purchased over the years. Finally got a break on Subaru ball joint puller. The right tool for the right job sure helps the job go much smoother. I’m glad Josh got to keep his job. Much credit to himself.
It's a tough business with all the undercutting unqualified hillbilly Mechanics out there, and employees that take the pay but don't get the work done. Trust me, you don't want to be the owner unless you are your main mechanic, and someone you really trust is doing the books.
I haven’t owned a single Astro tool or product that was subpar. Thanks Eric for introducing me to their stuff.. Before watching SMA I would often skip over Astro while looking at my options on Amazon. Disclaimer: Not sponsored by Astro, just a satisfied DIY guy.
Just dealt with a stubborn subaru balljoint, Had broken 19mm socket. Found nut that threaded on ball joint and a nut that threaded onto slide hammer. Welded a nut on each end. BOOM had my own adapter for a slide hammer. Happy moment. Going to look into getting this tool now lol
“AND, IF I CAN DO IT, YOU CAN DO IT! THANKS FOR WATCHING!!” - Copyright/Trademark - South Main Auto. Compressor chimes in right on time... Great video, short, sweet and what a great tool. And the ball-joint puller was dang neat too!! See what I did there? 😂😂 Thanks, Eric. You da best!!
I ordered this tool the day I had to change ball joints in my Subaru. I cobbled up some washers with a cup from a ball joint press and barely got them out. Can't wait to try mine out! Thanks for the video!
Those TTX ball joints are so awesome. I don’t think I have ever been so excited about discovering a new line of parts! Love them. Some of them even come with press adapters. Super cool!
I watched this video and realized that its rare to be positioned into a field you want to work in and get mentored by such an outstanding person with the experience Dr. O has. I personally had a few such mentors from time to time before and I really wish I could thank those people more now.
Yes, the dreaded Subaru pinch bolt. Not made for the Salt Belt. When I touch one of those, and if all goes well, or not........I modify the original concept for a "Through Bolt" set up. Winterizing one Rig at a time! Love your videos Eric! From the Far Northeast-MaineiacNorth
Thank you for the video, this worked great on the driver side but not so much on the passenger side... Threaded the tool onto the ball joint and foolishly tried to use my impact to make a quick job of it, now its the next day and the ball joint is still in the car! The threads ripped out of the cylinder on the tool and the ball joint. That's what happens when you try to go to fast kids! Live and learn I guess. :) But thank you for introducing me to this option, didn't know that tool was available outside of the Matco/SnapOn trucks.
Eric I needed a good laugh after spending 3 hrs in the NYSDMV to renew my drivers license. What a dysfunctional operation. Even though I never worked a a Subaru still a good video. Glad to see Josh has broken into the movie business. Thanks Eric and Josh 👍👍👍 a high pressure grease fitting we had in the aircraft industry since the 70 's.
This vid made me order that tool for an upcoming ball joint job on the missus outback. Worked out to $55 shipped to Sweden, should be well worth it in reduction of cussing and flying tools during the job!
Hi Eric, man i really like your diagnostic tools. Theyre invaluable. After watching your videos, i ordered a new scan tool. Mine was about ten years outdated. You can tell a good mechanic by looking at his toolbox and tools. Keep up the awsome videos. Youre the MAN! Rev.
Eric, it's time for a SHOUT OUT to our friend Chris Pettit the Product Engineer at ASTRO that makes it all happen. Chris is a good friend and a good engineer that listens to his customers and tries to provide his customers with superior products at reasonable prices. CHRIS, YOU DA MAN!
Congratulations on the purchase of modern art (Man with a Long Face and Big Mouth ) attached to the blue structure on the wall at the back at 3:20. Very classy.
That tool paid for itself the first time you used it, just for the deferred aggravation cost by itself. Using slide-hammers SUCK! That tool is gravy man, GRAVY!
Good ole Astro ! And good for NAPA offering those "green" ball joint products. The do look more beefier than the OEM. Life is better when the inventors share !
Seems similar set up to some Polaris ATVs, except no pinch bolt but a plate with 2 bolts. To do those I just made a tool with a piece of pipe amd washer and as you tighten the nut it pulls the ball joint out.
Thank you very much friend I just ordered it by amazon I tried too much with other tools and I am not successful now I will wait three days for the article to arrive to see how it works for me
Eric, I dont have a Subby but it looks like a cool tool. I do have Astro's 'hub tamer' kit for removing and installing wheel bearings and it works great. Astro makes some really good stuff for not too much $. Thanks for posting. BTW love how you are watched over by Easter Island Moai on the wall. SMA#1 God bless Paul
Excellent demo, Eric. Trying to think of a way to make this tool is cool, but the price of steel around here is so high I can't make one of these for much less. I've seen guys use threaded rod, a short segment of pipe, and a small weld. Even that way, when you look at the hardware bill it is almost the same. I hate single application tools.
I purchased a master ball joint service tool and adapter set at Princess auto (not a sponsor) here in Canada for $100 on sale. The tools are not top quality but will work for the average guy and they probably have that ball joint puller also. They have a lot of specialty tools that the home mechanic could afford and get some time out of. Harbour Freight (also not a sponsor) may carry the same stuff. No good for the pro shop but I don't think the pros are watching these videos and some of these tools have gotten me out of real sticky situations.
Hey Eric, would love to see those ball joints when installed if you ever do another set. Just to see how accessible the grease fittings are. Another great vid!
It's funny. Ever since I got the tool, I haven't seen a Subi since..... lol The ball joints must KNOW!! 😂😂😂 I've been dying to try it out! Too short & quick.... of a video! 😉😉😂😂 Don't worry, I know.. I know... things are just hectic up there! Thanks for even taking the little time you have to make vids! 😊🤗
Those ball joints come out real easy with an air hammer. Bring out big nasty. Works even in the rust belt hit the edge with big nasty pop that out in seconds. Just another tip if you don't want to waste money on another tool.
Nice little tool there! Haven't had the pleasure of doing one of those yet, lol. Love the compact grease fitting on those sweet ball joints, too - great engineering there. Why can't automakers do this crap to begin with??? 🤔 Ok, the SMA marathon is done for now - I've gotta get some work done around here! 😂
those napa balljoints are sweet/proper made, napa should be a sponser at some level, they getting enough free love a thank you is at least in order lol .
Suspension bolts = grade 8 (or whatever the communist equivalent is) Those ain't easy to drill out, unless you happen to have a diamond bit laying around.
Eric sorry about that mean comment that I left on your first video where you introduced to the puller 1.0. I didn't know that you mentioned in this video that it's useless without having a lift
"HA! My dad used to say, "Good enough for the girls I go with." That is totally not why I came to this video; I was checking out the Soobby Ball Joint Puller. Stay safe!
This beats the heck out of making your own from black iron pipe adapters and a bolt. Now if I could only get lucky enough to not break the pinch bolts.
We have an articulating statue outside where I work at the temple and it has an old style grease gun which looks very similar to the end to what you have there
I dont know IF you Have them in The states, but in sweden We Have a greasegun for the nosewheel on chainsawbars. They Have a tip just like the grease adapter for that balljoint. Regards Patrik
I would say awesome Wicked cheap tool Mr. O, but??? But the Mrs. is right behind me.And No! My son has an 09 subby/Subbie(I don't know) that may need that particular utensil in the near future. That worked great getting that outta there, Full beans. btw I'm sure alot of folks are still waiting for the phone to ring
I wonder if they make those TTX balljoints for my old Volvo. Not that I need to replace mine yet, but they don't usually last more than 100k km... Well so they say, we'll see how long mine last since I don't go full sped into potholes if I can avoid it.
We most certainly did not, maybe, okay possibly definitely did steal the double sided threaded adapter idea to work with a slide hammer from SMA... after exchanging a few emails with Eric. Like I said, have no idea what you're talkin' 'bout
Could possibly make a wheel bearing puller with the same principles...
@AstroTools I hope you're giving Eric a cut - he's your best marketer and now an engineer too!
Funny, cool response

It needs to have SMA in the part number!!
Good to see josh you can tell how far he has came as a mechanic keep it up josh

No pressure. “Take the bolt out without breaking it or you’re fired.” Hilarious! Awesome vijeo, Mr. O!
Dude what about the subversive Hebrew
Did him dirty with that pinch bolt

I fixed my moms AC thanks to you and my physics teacher!!!! Best practical realistic guy ever!!!!!
I loved mechanic work. The tools, the experience and the money. No wait, there was no money, unless you owned the shop.
Apparently you’ve never been in business for yourself. I made more money as a technician and didn’t have half the headaches.
It's a tough business with all the undercutting unqualified hillbilly Mechanics out there, and employees that take the pay but don't get the work done.

Great Tool! "If you can do it, we can do it!" Thought I'd add that in.
Thankyou for that demo.

I just bought one of those ball joint pullers. It solved a lot of fustration in 5 minutes.
This vid made me order that tool for an upcoming ball joint job on the missus outback. Worked out to $55 shipped to Sweden, should be well worth it in reduction of cussing and flying tools during the job!
I got one of those. Works FANTASTIC. Gonna have to upload my video using it.
Rev.
I cant imagine how Josh puts up with your antics all day. Id be LMAO so much I couldnt get anything done!
Thanks for the morning motivation to goto the shop today, been sadly slow this week but your videos teach and inspire
Ty for lowering the volume when you're using the impact.

Woke up in pain, couldn't get back to sleep, got a notification from UA-cam for a new SMA video, automatically made me feel alittle better:)
Astro definitely coping you.
Compressor kicked on during their video also.
OMG ... it did ! thats crazy :D
COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT!!!!
They say that imitation is the best form of flattery. That goes to show how good SMA is.
It's good to see Josh I hope his schooling is going well!!! You two work well together! Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
I bought two several months ago. One for me and one I gave to my favorite mechanic shop who gets to use it when I break my pinch bolt off.
Good ole Astro ! And good for NAPA offering those "green" ball joint products. The do look more beefier than the OEM. Life is better when the inventors share !
I got one of these after watching you use it in a video and man I will not fight those little bastards ever again ! LOVE THE VIDEOS
Like a charm ... I love tools. I don't own a Subaru, but I need that tool.
Just bought one. For when the time comes. Thanks Eric Obrohta from 4
years ago.
The Tool is definitely great nicely done and nobody lost any giggly bits!!!; )
After hearing Josh make noise on the other side for years it's god to finally see him!
Seems similar set up to some Polaris ATVs, except no pinch bolt but a plate with 2 bolts. To do those I just made a tool with a piece of pipe amd washer and as you tighten the nut it pulls the ball joint out.
Nice tool and it's good to see Josh again.
That oil jug in the back looks like a tiki mask😂..had me looking twice. That tool is indeed a must have
Thank you very much friend I just ordered it by amazon I tried too much with other tools and I am not successful now I will wait three days for the article to arrive to see how it works for me
Now that's high quality videoing if I've ever seen it! Love the channel, keep plugging away at it Eric O. you're the Man.... !
Eric,
I dont have a Subby but it looks like a cool tool. I do have Astro's 'hub tamer' kit for removing and installing wheel bearings and it works great. Astro makes some really good stuff for not too much $. Thanks for posting.

Astro Pneumatic Tool 78620 Subaru Ball Joint Puller: amzn.to/2XmEtHz
Mevotech TXK9513: amzn.to/2Y6XACM
I purchased a master ball joint service tool and adapter set at Princess auto (not a sponsor) here in Canada for $100 on sale. I liked your version just fine. I’ve used it twice and don’t do enough Suby ball joints to justify a dedicated tool. Thanks for showing it, though.
Nice! Good to see you Josh! Thanks for sharing.
Nice to see Josh in the video, would like to see more of him doing his usual daily stuff.
Don't think Josh wants to be on camera much.
Damn- that's a serious tool, not much is going to argue with that.
Sparkling new lift looks snazzy.👀😎
I love my ball joint puller. Bought one last year.
Having the right tools makes any job easy.
Today’s Tech tip, nice one Mr O,and shout out to Josh!
Hey Eric, would love to see those ball joints when installed if you ever do another set. Just to see how accessible the grease fittings are. Another great vid!
Steve Brecht they are as accessible as you make them! Seen people install the nipple to where it was covered 😂
i love when replacement parts come with new hardware!!
I could have used that last week. Both LCA's totally rotted out. Wound up replacing the ball joints as well as a set of P&P arms.
The spreader, combined with this tool has to make this job a cake walk. What if the ball joint is so shot, it separates from the cup?
That air compressor love to be in your vids (phone too). Very nice tool, snappy short, but informative video, as usual. Thanks, from Houston, TX.
You got some real industrial grade rust on those cars you work on! BTW, rust never sleeps!
Josh has a Honda hat on.... Solid dude.
That tool looks like a real timesaver
That is awesome! I hate doing Subie ball joints, going to have to get one of those. Thanks for sharing Eric!
Ball joint puller 2.0! New and improved!
Great video as usual. Love your sense of humor Mr. O. 😁
Thanks! 👍
Nice to see the tool in action.
That tool is gold right there.yes head gaskets and ball joints .nice looking out fit but they are junk to me.
Those ball joints come out real easy with an air hammer. Bring out big nasty. Works even in the rust belt hit the edge with big nasty pop that out in seconds. Just another tip if you don't want to waste money on another tool.
"a QUICKIE"
Love it
Very satisfying
I have owned 3 different subarus one had 350k on it when I sold it never had ball joint go bad. And I live on a dirt road.
Ive never seen a green ball joint before looks cool
Nice little tool there! Haven't had the pleasure of doing one of those yet, lol. Love the compact grease fitting on those sweet ball joints, too - great engineering there. Why can't automakers do this crap to begin with??? 🤔
Ok, the SMA marathon is done for now - I've gotta get some work done around here! 😂
Eric I'm still waiting on my "brought to you by naper, not a sponsor" merch!!!!!!!!!
those napa balljoints are sweet/proper made, napa should be a sponser at some level, they getting enough free love a thank you is at least in order lol .
Haha! I broke that bolt yesterday! Had to drill it out...didn't get fired though.
Suspension bolts = grade 8 (or whatever the communist equivalent is) Those ain't easy to drill out, unless you happen to have a diamond bit laying around.
This tool is excellent and cheap. You don't get that combo often. Well, cheap for a specialty tool.
Good to see Josh make a cameo appearance.
Awesome tool. I only changed one subaru ball joint. I may have to order this tool!
Well done Eric.
Great job. Great ad for "Not A Sponsor."
So cool definitely gonna have to get one always good to have the right tools for the job
Nice...an S.M.A video before work. Wait where's the brake clean and the ol' fire wrench are they on a coffee break??
Eric sorry about that mean comment that I left on your first video where you introduced to the puller 1.0. I didn't know that you mentioned in this video that it's useless without having a lift
Something new today, that's why we toon in, special knowledge.
"At least we got the compressor, hopefully the phone rings."
😅🤣
"HA! My dad used to say, "Good enough for the girls I go with." That is totally not why I came to this video; I was checking out the Soobby Ball Joint Puller. Stay safe!
I've heard the bag with all the small parts called the giblet bag. Sounds fitting. LOL Gobble gobble
Great stuff. Don't have a Suby or I'd be all over it.
Now, what do we do if we have comments, criticisms, or concerns?
This beats the heck out of making your own from black iron pipe adapters and a bolt. Now if I could only get lucky enough to not break the pinch bolts.
Heat is your friend....
I've had the snapon bjr1-1 for at least 6 or 7 years and man does it make them Subaru ball joints easy and quick 👍

Hey Josh is back!
I see Josh has turned his talents to mechanics. Did he do any other films besides the SandLot?
Nice shiny new lift!
