I once had a C96 Mauser in 7.63mm. After several years of searching, I finally obtained the shoulder stock/holster and the leatherwork (repros, but nice ones).
Then in 1999, it was stolen.
To this day if I could find him, I would gladly feed that thief (feet first) into a wood chipper.

For those interested in the Old video : Ian said production ended in 1918 with ~130,000 units , no mention of post war . Ian also said it was ordered in 1914 and delivered in 1916 . Both these facts are the only differences . It is a sign of a great creator that Ian corrected himself so quickly ! Go Ian !

I just find it strange that the allies would allow the Germans to keep producing the outlawed 9mm caliber and 5.5 inch barrel length after the war. Also what would be the need for the Germans to keep that (expensive) contract going when there was an abundance of sidearms laying about?

@@bmstylee resident evil isn’t like call of duty though. It’s not trying to portray the gun in a pseudo realistic sense. It’s a horror action game with mostly generic gun names like “combat shotgun” or similar. So it’s just really cool that the “Red 9” is in the game at all. Was a very cool choice. It’s hard to explain but what I’m trying to get at I guess is it isn’t a “children’s toy” that portrays guns inaccurately, while trying to tell you it’s spot on or something. It knows it’s a video game.

It's funny both the Luger and the Mauser are not only fine weapons but they each have a distinctive form that is instantly recognizable. Futuristic and baroque at the same time their form and function are both stylish and utilitarian. In 9MM they are also quite an effective weapon for the battlefield. Examples of these will reside in a technical, historic or art museum quite comfortably. Great esoteric information and , as always, an extremely interesting angle of this weapon.

He knows that I was looking for one. So when I send him the links of this batch asking which one should I choose, he found one that has the smooth rear sight ramp, and suggested that it might be a nine but the seller didn't pay attention. I placed my bid and got it for $900. Yes it's a 9mm with a pair of non-matching grips, all other parts serialed correctly!

7.63 Mauser to 9mm Luger is an easy conversion, as 9mm Luger is slightly shorter but dimensionally similar at the base, and not quite as hot overall. The Chinese converted the Tokarev (which fired a dimensionally identical cartridge) with a simple barrel, bushing, and spring swap. They also created new magazines, but the original magazines worked fine with either caliber. You really have to change very little on a 7.63 Mauser or 7.62 Tokarev gun to convert it to 9mm Luger.

@Branticus Maximus. Negative? Lol gawwwwwd damn how sensitive are you ? I literally said 2 words “yeah ok”. Also wtf did this comment have to do with a gun collection? The original commenter said he wanted one as a “carry gun” in a shoulder rig not a conversion piece in his collection there’s a big difference there.

A young Winston Churchill carriedca C96 at the Battle of Omdurman in 1898 and participated in the last charge of the 21st Lancers against what seemed to be a small group of Dervishes post battle.. turned out to be a very much larger group and young Winston used his personally purchased C96 to shoot his way out of a death trap...

I own one of these but without the broomhandle, only leather holster. Gun served in finnish civil war, tribal wars, winter- and continuation war. After wartime it has put down more cattle than people.
It is one thing i'll never lose or give away hence being in my family for ~104 years. Still works.

I love the Mauser C96 my dad has one from WW1 and it’s in I’d say pretty good condition for its age no rust but it does have a dent in it and has cuts and scrapes and no rifling left in it but still such a beautiful piece of history
it is also in 7.63x25 and we have ammo but we don’t want to shoot it due to the fact the of the rarity of the ammo type now days

It's such a fascinating piece of hardware, all that wood and leather and the hand engraving on the grip feels very old fashioned, but at the same time so much of it is sterile and precision machined and marked like the product of industrialized war it is.
