4 years ago my 04 tribute lx threw a po403 code. I threw parts on it to fix it with no success. After seeing your video, decided to check the wiring to the EGR controller. The purple wire did not connect with the controller, then cut the connector of and soldered new pigtails on this and re-connected back to the harness. The MIL did not come back on and checked with my obd2 reader and no codes showed. After 4 years of MIL on, no more. My Mechanic would not tell me about this, my bro in law who owned a repair shop would not tell me about this, only this one video on youtube show this. Of course, I always disconnected the battery before performing this procedure, not wanting to fry the ECU. Thanks for sharing this tip.
I remember a line from Forest Gump " You are a G__D D___M F Genius" They should make you a senior technical advisor at Ford. I was going to start at a leaky exhaust manifold and work my way up.. I bought the part from your link. I hope you got a big commission. I would have never thought of that in a million years with a recent EM gasket leak. I have friends who are ferrarri and mazarati techs and they never thought of it. The thing that sold me on your idea was that I would reset the code. I would start it cold and the code came right back. I would start it hot and the code came right back. Had to be electrical. Good Job.
I appreciate your comment and very happy to hear that the video was helpful to you. Also thank you very much for ordering through the link. The commission's are small but it adds up to something at the end of the month. Thank you
When these electrical connectors get old, they are very hard to remove and the wires get broken during the fight. This is one area that I have learned the hard way, to be very gentle and not force anything. For this particular type of plug, I usually use a very thin, small flat-blade screwdriver to insert into the gap and twist while pushing the tab. It doesn't always work, but definitely worth a try.
Thanks - my 2003 Mazda tribute had same exact problem. Unfortunately I replaced every electronic sensor in the EGR system - I wish I found your video first! Then I test drove, parked and I believe my fuel pump stopped working......
A quick blast of super helpful info. I bet your customer waiting area even has Twix in the candy machine. (*Twix is the only candybar that has the cookie crunch.)
This video is correct.. I had to find out the hard way.. my control wire was broken inside the insulator.. everything looked fine but the voltage wouldn't make it to the PCM.. cut your time in half and check the continuity..
Great video! Thanks for the link to Amazon, which has the part described (although their 'part matcher' says that it does not fit my 2004 Tribute, comments in the review section say it does ;-} ) I probably would not have suspected or even known to suspect this wire/connector without this video. Kudos!
Hey my friend, With a power probe on that solenoid connector, one should test battery voltage, and the other (purple) should read as a ground, correct? I have voltage on the one wire, and nothing (no ground) on the purple.
Once you cut the old pigtail connector and will install the new one is there a specific way that the cables need to be arranged ? Since there’s 2 does it matter which cable it soldered on to ? Thanks in advance .
No problem buddy. I would think it should disappear within a week. Or you could just disconnect the negative terminal from your battery for 15 seconds and that will also clear the light most of the time. Or investing in a cheap OBD2 code reader is also a good move
I have a 2006 ford explorer with the code p0443 purge evaporation circuit fault, the question is if this fault is related to what the EGR valve code p0403 appears, if I change the purge valve, will the two codes disappear?
04 tribute v6 & I just need to vent. I’ve been to every shop in town & none will touch my rig because there’s no check engine light & no stored codes? How’d they used to do it?! So the engine surges, the car makes a whistley/whining noise in motion & my MPGs as well as overall power are suckin 👎🏼 I’m frustrated. Great video, thanks. I’m goin for it.
That's crazy. Surprised to hear so many shops would turn down a car that has issues like that. Engine light or not. But yeah, armed with UA-cam and online forums you should be able to figure out what the issue is.
I should’ve quantified. Podunk deliverance-ville here has 5 but I refuse to approach one. So 4. Every shop in town = 4. Also noteworthy, there’s one dealership but nahh. Still only 4 to me. Thanks & I’ll lyk.
Hi bro, I got this code on my Mx5 nc1. Egr valve cleaned and code still appear. I guess I need to check the wire fist as u suggested before trying to replace solenoid
What to do if negative "ground" wire not working? In theory need replace him? Cuz searching broke place inside labyrinth of wires under cover it's looks super hard job. But first replace ground wire need to know where he connected exactly to computer :( And I can't found diagram in internet where lead EGR solenoid wires exactly
Im having this code problem for about 8 months now.. i changed the egr unit 3 times already..i have change head and block as well..i dont know what to do again please help.. i have a nissan y11 wingroad. Its a 6 pin egr unit
I have an 08 Ford Explorer XLT 4.0 and is throwing Codes P0403, P0443, P0155, P0135 and so on. Shows all Four O2 sensors are bad. I get some rough idle at times and kinda comes and goes. I have replaced the Purge Valve and EGR valve and about to change all Four O2 sensors but even after changing EGR and Purge valve, it is still throwing codes for those 2 parts. I have also noticed that trip ometer and fuel milage resets on its own to zero. So I feeling like I have jumped down a rabbits hole swapping out parts. Any idea on what to look for ?
I had the same issues the problem is usually the wiring from the pcm (engine computer harness) that goes to the egr I had to take the wrapping off to see the broken wires Hope this helps
@@MC-hs4mf not exactly. You would probably want to take a look at it wiring diagram first to determine and also you may need a scan tool to activate it

Good video , saves time and money. Don't have to fire that parts cannon.
Yes!!!! Just checked that on my 2004 Ford and sure enough, broken wires.
Thanks a million for this video!! 👍🏿
No problem man! Glad to hear it helped out. This is a super common failure on these! I've seen it countless times

Perfectly explained, this was the best video.

Great detailed and knowlegable video. Short and straight to the point.
Thanks bro
Shon Bembry no problem and thanks so much for commenting and giving me some feedback.
I'm learning more and more about these escapes. Thanks

Would this broken wire cause the vehicle to not start?
The unit on the firewall isn't on the firewall on my 04 escape... Looks kinda rigged. Great short and sweet video

I suppose technically it doesn't matter because it's just a solenoid, but I would put them on in the same orientation at the old one was
NoNonsenseKnowHow how would I check continuity? I recently started getting po403 on an 05 Escape.
????
Hey, thanks for video. I just replaced the pigtail connector. If this is the fix, how soon would code disappear?

I have an 0403 and and 0443. Would this be the valve or the solenoid? Surely not both at the same time. It's a 2010 Mustang v6

I had the same issues the problem is usually the wiring from the pcm (engine computer harness) that goes to the egr
I had to take the wrapping off to see the broken wires
Hope this helps
Do you have a link for that connector, I've been having the same problem since I've gotten the car 3 years ago lol
OhYoJo I'm 99% sure this is the correct one right here. let me know how you make out with it. amzn.to/2GYJNFc
That one he link worked for my 2003 Ford Escape with same issue, just did it yesterday.
Where can I find a pigtail part
How can I check the wires with a meter?
Yes you could. But usually a visual check is all this necessary with these. It's a very common failure
