    Hi guys, This video has gotten more views than I anticipated. I would like to reiterate that this is NOT the correct way to convert your truck to a dually. I always recommend buying STEEL wheel spacers and upgrading your suspension if you want improved payload capacity. Enjoy the video, and don't take it too seriously!

      The stock ten ply single wheel tires will carry more weight then them 4 ply tires this entirely counter productive if you don’t run ten plies honestly no point at all

      Hey I thought about doing this to my k2500 it works. But through research I found Toyota did the same thing with motor homes in the 80s had to recall due to to many axle shafts snapping and wheels rolling away from the vehicle. You have the right axle for doing it though. They used a semi floater your using a single rear full floater. Thanks for the video!

    Duals rock for towing as any wrecker driver knows because double the sidewall count reduces sway. It's also nice to be able to limp a greater distance if you have a rear flat at an inconvenient location. BTW keep an eye out at the salvage yard for the DRW front hub extensions which are basically factory spacers.

    Sadly I see this is a four year old video, but this would help anyone who decides to do this. Make sure those dually adaptors are steel and have the little extension of steel for the inner rim to help center plus keep the rims from walking around. You will notice that the original wheels were also done this way so regardless of type wheel used, all rims need this to keep that from happening. Next is to do the same on the front wheels as it also keeps you from carrying two different spare tires. I see many different brands out on the market since american tire makers are struggling with labor costs which add to costs of doing this. Just a hint of troubles ahead is the rear stabilizer or sway bar as some call it. Go up to the one ton dually sway bar/stabilizer which is much larger and keep from breaking those rims when loaded. I am seventy four as for age and a mechanic for a large amount of this time.

    - improves stability of vehicles with tall vans when encountered with strong winds.

    - gives better grip when braking, specially on wet roads or when cargo is stack higher than cab height.

The dually wheels are hub centric and should have flat lugnuts with a hub centric spacer. That could be a bad combination using no flat lugnuts and no hub centering that wheel.

    Well at least you had a one ton rear end to start with. That’s a plus. The tire load increase helps, but you still only have the strength of the original lugs. By the way, a true duely will be a 2 ton plus. The rims fit snug on the hub so the weight isn’t only on the studs themselves. Only saying so that anyone who tries this doesn’t overload the capacity of the original rear end. Looks good, but doesn’t help. The original single wheels would have done the same job. And you woulda had $600 for fuel.

    You said the spacers are steel, they were bought new on ebay under $100 bucks? I'm looking for a pair like that if there steel an under 100 bucks you know the name brand? Thanks......

    If this is done just for the looks, what could go wrong? Any safety concern?

  • @jamespfitz

    In Vermont the tire can't extend the fender. Safety, you know. But Linglong Tyres from Crazy Han's Tire and Paper Lantern Company...no problem.

    Hope this is only for looking good in the driveway and not for on the road. My friend just sheared off his studs on his factory dually and wasn't using cheap adapters made out of soft aluminum. Wheel adapters should only be used for boat anchors.

    That seems sketchy as hell, those cheap eBay wheel spacers are known to crack, but even if they are ok your putting a ton of stress on the stock wheel lugs. Triply so if your towing.
    On a side note those 6.5 have some known issues (nothing near as bad as the ford 6.0 or 6.4). but they can be easily fixed and rectified. They still make a ton of parts for it if you look up marine applications.

      Ah I'm not concerned, these are tough steel. I have friend with 200k on aluminum ones. As for the 6.5 issues, luckily the previous owner took care of all the common problems. (Lift pump, pmd, cooling, balancer, head studs, etc)

    • @Stricklinator

      Yep, no way I would trust aluminum spacers holding all the weight a 3/4 ton truck might hold/tow.

      @ARuralVermonterQqjmcb182  5 років тому +1

      I just bought the truck recently and they came with those tires on them. Last year I used really aggressive all season tires year round on my s10 and I'll probably do that again

    • @garretts91
      @garretts91 5 років тому

      Its funny, I live in NH and really don't see it here much but in VT I've seen many people run winter tires even studded all year. I figure with the short summer it must not be worth paying for different sets or dismount/mounting fees. Just run one set till their worn and replace em!
