Anbernic RG556 Handheld - Gameplay Test - Xenosaga Episode III (PS2)

- This is Xenosaga Episode III for the Playstation 2 running on the Anbernic RG556. I've been meaning to replay this series on handheld for a while now, and will go back to the first game and start a playthrough soon.
I'm running this at 1X native resolution because I noticed a significant amount of slowdown at 1.5X and 2X resolution, which is a bit of a shame as I think this game looks really nice upscaled.
I've put the emulator settings at the end of the video as usual with my PS2 recordings.Any out-of-sync audio here is the fault of the capture card - in-game I don't detect any audio lag.
You might notice that this video looks a bit different from the other gameplay videos I've uploaded. I'm trying out this green screen thing to see how well it works ... which hopefully gives you a better look at the graphics and gameplay than the two smaller windows I'd been using. And for those of you that were coming close to overdosing on the purple, there's less of that now!
I'm still recording these gameplay videos on an Anbernic WIN600 handheld, but I wonder if the green screen effect at 1080P60 overlaid onto the video capture is pushing the WIN600 to its limits.

Just invested in a RG556, and it's fantastic. Thanks for showcasing this game, not heard of this one before.
The RG556 is definitely the most capable handheld Anbernic's put out.
As for Xenosaga ... definitely worth a try if you're into turn-based JRPGs with sci-fi settings. You can probably get a hundred or so gameplay hours going through the whole trilogy.

Thank you! I am just using a sd855 in an LG g8 phone I can do 2x while playing this vulkan of course but thank you for showing me this!
The RG556 can do upscaling of this game SOME of the time. I just like to not have to stop mid-game and play around in the settings menu so I leave it at 1X.
Realistically, though, I'm probably going to do my Xenosaga playthrough on my Ally. No worries with upscaling there.
Hello I have rg556, but it has 64gb card, and there was no ps2 games I try to load ps2 games downloaded but it doesn't work what extension your ps2 games is it iso? or can u give an adress for downloading?
Some people use the .chd format to save space, but I've just been using .iso since that's what I get when ripping my PS2 games and I still have plenty of HD space on my network drives for the uncompressed files. (I don't think you can feed AetherSX2 or NetherSX2 .7z or .zip files, so depending on how you're sourcing games you will have to uncompress those or they won't work.)
I do use .bin/.cue format for some of the older games that came on CDROM (the blue ones).
I use k3b on my Linux laptop to rip the discs ... works with no issues for all my PS2 games - at least the DVD ones like this one.

I think we're seeing the limits of the Anbernic WIN600 here. It doesn't like doing the green screen effect.
Also what version of the emulator are you using!?
It's NetherSX2 based off of AetherSX2 4248 (the last release). I had more trouble with the older 3668 release (although there are some games it works better on) so I'm just sticking with the latest. It's a shame you can't have both installed at once.

With these handhelds, if you don't like what's currently on offer, just wait a few weeks and there will be more.
