@@matt13ross Oh no! You need to make him addicted, do it right now! Go for a spin with the 996 and let him feel it pushing while it roars down the road. Being a young boy I would be down on it in the twinkle of an eye lol
To fix audio noise.. if your power wires and your rca's are running next to each other thats the problem. When i was an audio installer we would run power and remote on one side of car and the rca's on opposite. Those noise filters were a hit or miss for a fix.
Awesome video Matt. Would have been awesome to see the PCCM Plus for 911 (996) installed. It’s an original Porsche unit made specifically to bring the 996 up to the modern era. Porsche is the only one doing that. Upgrading tech for older cars officially and it’s such a great thing to do. I wish other manufacturers would follow suit.
So good to see all the progress! I love this project! :) A few hints: the ground wire from the amp, always make sure the connection is solid and not on any painted surface. Use some sanding paper to clean and make a good ground connection. In terms of audio quality, new speakers do alot. If you want to do it even better, swap the head unit out. A headunit from one of the bigger companies, like Pioneer, Alpine, Sony etc. These chinese units generally sound terrible. Also, might not be a concern to everyone, but chinese android head units might contain malware (i guess you're connecting your phone to it with bluetooth or other). Not saying every chinese android headunit does, just that you cannot be sure.
what do you think about the audio quality of the stock headunit from Porsche, the single disc CD player CDR-22? I just ordered the speakers and was wondering if it is a waist without also getting the amp.
Hey you got a weak ground, so the noise filters rarely work if at all. You need to supplement your ground from the battery to the body. You can also double up the grounds on the alternator and engine but that might be overkill depends on the car. Doesn’t hurt to give it a try though.
I have the exact same amp and I had the exact same "whine". I tried EVERYTHING to fix it including even wrapping all the wires in gold tape to try and isolate them. I could never get it to stop, so I swapped out the amp and BINGO... no more whine.
Man the timing of this video haha. I was just starting to look for new speakers in my 02 since after winter my sub speaker is now 100% fried. Great video and love seeing the 996 getting some love.
@@matt13ross absolutely! I am going to have to see about the midbass speakers as my system is the Bose with the triangle shaped speakers in the doors. So I might try to make my own holes in the new speakers if they look like they will fit otherwise.
@@matt13ross I've left them since i bought the car in 2022 because they were pretty decent. However the speakers in the doors are now breaking down and crackling with any hint of bass in a song. So figured update the whole system. Cheap brand new pioneer must be at least equal to or better than 20 year old beaten bose. Going to try hooking them up and seeing if there is major differences. Could always undo it and return the pioneers if I need.
@@IanClos3 i just ordered the subs, but I too have the bose system in my 02' 996, the bass is shot so I wanted to try new ones. I did not know the bose subs were triangle shaped though 🧐
Hello Matt. While you were working inside the yellow monster I suddenly noticed it is to black inside and not enough yellow. I think its time for some yellow seat belts in that one 😂
If you like audio you would have been much happier with JL Audio, Alpine , Focal, Morel or Audiofrog. Just an FYI for your other Porsche as it deserves a much nicer Audio system. Also the dash and rear speaker housing were setup for component speakers. In other words a 5-1/4 or 6’ mid and 1-2” tweeter with a passive crossover. If those pioneers sound better than the kickers then the system wasn’t tuned right. I’m not a big Kicker fan but they do make quality equipment and their stuff can easily blow pioneer out of the water when it comes to sound quality. The speakers brands i recommended will be on another level if they are properly amplified and tumed. Your grounds need to be completely clean of all paint and that includes your ground from the battery to the chassis.
@@matt13ross okay gotcha, I thought you might have been going off a sponsor’s recommendation or perhaps had little knowledge about audio equipment. You have to agree that your other 996 deserves a little higher grade audio system. What matters ultimately is that it works and you are completely satisfied with it.
Nah no sponsor here. Just picked what fit. Ultimately I just wanted better than the 20 year old speakers. If I was REALLY into audio, I would have spent at least 5x this setup.
I just bought the same amp and was planning to install it in the same location. Great minds think alike. Do you have a video of the amp install (i.e. how you tapped in to the old amp harness)?
If there's paint on that stud you used for ground, you should clean it all off before attaching a ground wire. Not sure if there's paint on the stud or back of the nut.
Does exactly the same on my 996 with Atoto stereo. Really annoying alternator whine. Try turning up the AC to max to find out if the ground loop is fixed. I'm still trying to solve mine.
Man, I've heard replacing those door speakers were a nightmare since the baffle/box needed to be altered. How did it sound with those new door speakers? I've replaced my head unit and dash/rear speakers (cabriolet) already and added a 10" seal sub (put it in a long narrow box, folded down the back seats, bracketed to the back. It sits beneath the wind deflector so it can't be seen. Im trying to figure out if it's worth it to 1) Ditch the bose amp, leave the current bose door speakers. 2) ditch the bose amp, replace the bose door speakers. The issue for the dash and rears is - i've already replace them with 2.5ohm speakers to run off the bose amp, so I'd have to replace those speakers again unless i find a 6-channel, 2ohm stable amp. Anyway - thoughts? ANd how did the dayton's work out? The magnets seemed small
I have the ground loop issue on my 997. Ended up having an audio shop install similar devices. But I definitely hear a little white noise through the speakers now, when I'm not playing any music. I'm not an audiophile, but does anyone know what path to go down to solve this issue? I'm willing to go as far as it takes to solve this.
Weak grounds, double up the battery and alternator ground. Could also be connections on the head unit, personally I don’t like audio shops they aren’t exactly electricians and tend to butcher the existing harness and hardware.
