Great video JAMES; is there any chance you can do a separate video on replacing the 996 seatbelt receptacles, as I am about to order those for my 2001 911 and would appreciate any help I can get. I am ordering them from Suncoast Porsche and I cannot see where the wiring harness ends or plugs in that comes with the replacement or on my existing receptacle.
Hi John, yes! In fact I have replacement seatbelt receptacles ready to install. I'm just waiting on my seatbelts and seats to come back. Hopefully in a week!
I have so many questions. What kind of lift is that? How do you like the RaceDeck flooring? And where did you find the Porsche lettering for the wall? That’s it so far lol.
Hey Mike! Got the lift from Toolots.com but if I had the chance again, I would buy the exact same thing from TwinBusche USA. RaceDeck flooring AWESOME and the letters are from CustomGarageDesigns.com !
@@AutoAmateur Even though I have 992, after watching the video on you changing the seat belts out and changing the color. I did the same to mine. I get So many ideas from your videos. Keep it up!
Seats can very very heavy cant they, great too have the car lift to work at a convenient hight. Impressed by your battery thingy. Good to have another vid on the channel.
Thanks for the video, I am planning to recover my seats also and now I’m not afraid to take them out. Are you going to do anything special? Logo embossed or embroidered? Staying as close to stock as possible?
Hey Lou! I've got an overall budget to manage, so I have to be a little conservative with big ticket items BUT I love the idea of doing the logo embossed onto the head rests. Other than that though, I'm just trying to make the stock chairs factory fresh.
As much as I like some of the aftermarket seats, I think they take too much away from the classic look of the Porsche interior. I know that might sound off coming from someone who likes to modify his cars, but aftermarket seats and steering wheels are too far for me personally, as cool as they look.
Third video I'm watching to see how to disconnect the electrical part and two of them had some other connector different from my OEM 2000 986. This video doesn't show how to disconnect the electrical.
It is a beautiful color!! Next DIY needs to be to put some sort of cap over the nut on the rear wiper. Looks unfinished. And is it me, or does the thumbnail pic say “Pt. 2”? I was about a minute in a half into it today when I realized “this is the same video I watched yesterday!”
I’ll provide a proper run down of costs in Part 2 of this video but the driver’s seat it going to cost roughly $500 to repair half a dozen panels - the four bolsters and the seat base. Then the passenger seat will cost roughly $150 to recondition.
I'm really liking these DIY videos, James. I learn something every time! So, have you sourced a new engine or what? Apologies if you already explained this - I may have missed it. I hope I will see you in Colorado!
Yesterday i said full steam ahead on 996 but didnt expext another vid so soon. You really dont wanna be driving that support truck . Volcano 2000......funny
Can’t wait to see the finish seats. I like the idea of blue deviated stitching but then it open up the flood gates of matching dash and door panels.
Haha. VERY TRUE! I'm already perhaps too far down several different rabbit holes to open up another... :)

Always good to see that a older car receives some love to come back to life !
For sure! You got that right!
Way to go ! The value of doing a full seat restoration is Gold !
Thanks Trond!
Thanks James, great video and good to see Project 996 back up and running. You've revived my interest. All the best from Huddersfield.
Cheers! Appreciate it! All the best.

@@AutoAmateur awesome! Thanks!
Even though I have a 992, I get a kick out of watching your video's!
Haha. Thanks Bernie!! I hope to be mod'ing a 992 some day soon! :)

Thanks again James for such interesting videos. Can’t wait for the next one.
Cheers Werner, appreciate it!!
James, another brilliant video that encourages me as a very “un-handyman” to do things with my P-car. Happy New Year!
Cheers Lars! Appreciate it! See you around soon!
Minnesota native here. Keep up the good work!
Cheers Peter!!

And another great video!!! why no aftermarket seats? i'm looking to do maybe some recaro's...

HAHAHA i love the expressions sped up lol looks like ya hand got pinched hit a knuckle or lost a bolt face lol nice vid!!
Definitely got a couple of pinches on my knuckles behind that panel. 🤣🤣🤣
I would also do steering wheel, shift boot, and door panels.
And emergency brake lever, if it has one.
Great suggestions! Thank you!
Another good video james. The 996 looks great👍
Thanks 👍
looks great. covers do scratch the car though
I need to do that. Looking forward to the next one.
Cheers Dan! Material comes in around 2 weeks, then I get them back a week after that. Can't wait to see how they come out!

Hahahahaha. You’re right!! Bah, I need to correct that. This is most definitely part 1.
As for the rear wiper - you’re right. I actually have several pieces of missing trim on the way for there, the wiper / cowl area and the interior.
I'm very interested to see what sort of price range this cost because my boxster needs similar love and attention on its seats.

@@AutoAmateur not a full recovering then?
When do we get to see them? 😀
How true is it that I need to disconnect the battery so I wont get an air bag warning light on the dash?
Very true.

Hey Tom! Thanks! Yes… replacement engine should be here by the end of Feb. Can’t wait! See you in Colorado!
Keep the 996 vids coming ?
Cheers Chris, absolutely! I have several new 996 videos in the works... stay tuned!
Nice job !
Thank you! Cheers!
The 2000s fad of wearing “designer” jeans with all the metal crap has done a number on the seat bolsters of many cars from this era
fantastic
Thanks Mohammed!
Nice
Love the comedy!
😂😂😂 nice outtakes
Ha! Thanks!
9:42. That is one loss terminal bro
Loose? You're right. I just had it disconnected earlier that day.
