Stick some foam in that cone, it should improve the sound dampening by quite a bit. It will be similar to the foam plugs used in speaker bass ports to reduce the boom.
Someone ought to go back and look at CPAP designs. My buddy just found a used CPAP and is leaving it assembled. At full power it's quiet enough to sleep by with some getting used to (obviously).
We call it cpap cooling because the cpap hoses are what can deliver the pressure and flow at ultra low weight and losses. Not because it's the same as a cpap machine. Different rate & pressure specs.
