Best example of speaking English n German simultaneously !
So, Dutch?
@@evanfont913pretty much 😂
The OC-5 rocks. It has that familiar and much improved OC-2 sound and so many usefull features for different uses.
Губернатор Остроухбецкой области прям вообще... Вообще! :3
5:23 Grigor, you are amazing :D
The groovemeister on bass! I always wanted an OC2. The new versions pretty kool.🎸
Shopping for my 1st octave pedal for bass. Was considering the octabass but I actually like this even better. And its $90 less expensive! Great review. Your bass player really demoed it well. Like his style.
OC-2 was released a few years before Chernobyl. It also looks like an object from the Chernobyl Reactor 4 Control Room too. Scary...
I didn't think the Amish were allowed to play electric bass?
me neither!
Mennonites
Depends. Are they using it while it's hooked up to an outlet or are they just playing it unplugged?
I was thinking how good he was, different strokes.
Clockwork...
You convinced me to get the OC-5. It has better note definition and sounds just as good. They technology (note tracking) has advanced since the 80's. Great comparison. oNe LovE from NYC
The first seconds make me understand the deal😂
Fuzz BEFORE the OC? Inconceivable!
the Big Muff sounds best as first pedal after the bass
Great playing from mr Rene as usual I'm def getting this pedal
I lost my EBS octabass pedal a while ago. This is sounding pretty good. Not a practical pedal for what I do but it looks like a lot of fun to mess around with
I love how the lower and upper octave with no dry signal sounds almost like a Wurlitzer
OMG I love that accent it reminds me of Benny Hill doing some of his poetry
His accent makes this someone more legit haha. Excellent demo, keep killing it.
The difference between them, in tone, is really small, but noticeable. The OC-2 sounds a tiny bit "dirtier", "grittier", with a bit more mids, whereas the OC-5 sounds a bit "rounder". If I didn't have an OC-2 already, and although I prefer its tone a bit, I would get an OC-5, as I think the extra features would justify.
Same here, I'd definitely get the 5 if I didn't already have the 2.
Yeah, as tempting as it is to pick this pedal up, I can't really justify it when my OC-2 works just fine. +oct is a cool feature though.
Love your channel, man! Keep up the great work.
I love your honesty. I will buy this for the fun factor. Thanks for a great review. 🙏👏
Kind of surprised the OC-3 wasn't brought up. It was pretty much an OC-2 but with the POLY functionality AND and overdrive feature.
I own the 3, been on my number one board since new, love it. It's really similar to the 5 ? Without the high side octives I think.. I do want to plug one in
Love having the fuzz and lower octave on one switch. Drive Sounds like unity volume when turned all the way down.
The OC3 had a dedicated Bass input and a dedicated Guitar input. To my ear each input had its own subtle baked in eq or filter, the bass channel sounded like it was cutting lows to increase definition, the guitar channel sounded like it was increasing lows to compensate for guitar signals being inherently less bassy to begin with. Neither sounded like the “just right” OC2, from my direct comparison of those pedals side by side.
I like how you guys focus on what matters and don’t use vague concepts to talk down newer models
He shaves his moustache because it is so cool that it would freeze our minds. Love your playing 🤘
Just bought one, I originally ordered the MXR Vintage Bass Octaver but wasn't happy at all with it. I've been a long time OC2 user..😀
I love wintage side 🤣
Nice! I made a review video comparing the OC-5 with the OC-2 “Octaver” as well! I could barely hear a difference either.
One thing I liked about the OC-5 is using the +oct and -oct (no dry signal) with delay. It has a cool synth effect!
Super...very interesting sounds
Oct oc5 ...gives a sound like " MOOG "
Love love love your TARDIS t-shirt!!🤘🏻🤘🏻
I really enjoy this channel. Thank you!!!
I run an OC-3 and OC-5 on my board. Great pedals, lucky to have both.
The OC-5 doesnt overdrive at all. qualitywise its a step up
🤔Who needs Overdrive?
That active is the best I've ever heard
Why does everyone sleep on the OC-3? You failed to mention the OC-3 at all, even though the poly mode introduced on that pedal. It also had a OD built in. If you've been waiting sooooo long for an improved OC-2... why didn't you get an OC-3?
I've never had one, but people really seem to hate the OC-3, and it often isn't counted.
OC-5 actually has quite a bit more fidelity than the OC-2 to my ears.
Obsessive Compulsive kind of describes most guitar players :D
3:49 thundercat song
Why does the host not play bass for demos on the channel himself? Just curious. The guys he uses are all awesome btw.
He said once that the other guys are just so good, why wouldn't he use them!
He did a few videos and he pulled these weird faces like he was ashamed. But he should play more. He’s great!
I LOVE the tracking of the OG OC2. I know I a lot of people don’t love the way it tracks but it’s perfect for me. Does anyone know if the tracking is has the same feel between the two?
it feels the same but the OC-5 is a bit more stable in the lower range
Would love to watch you guys do a review of the Boss bass processors. Like the older GT-10B
been wanting to replace my octave pedal with one from boss but mostly use the upper octave, finally a video that shows that this version of the oc has one.
When I hear this pedal I really want to play the music from level 2 on the first Mario game.
Is it possible to make a 4-string bass sound like F#, B, E, A bass with several octaves like this in series???
Of course, the sound must be as clean as possible without a lot of harmonics, and for low-frequency current (23hz) I would use a subwoofer.
Nothing screams "expert" like a German accent. Love your videos. Alles in ordnung.
How about OC-3... The poly setting, which one is better?
A search on equipboard puts the OC-2 as one of the most widely used pedals amongst bass players, rivaling the B7K and the Bass driver DI in how widely it is used
@lee plays bass don’t be like that, to make something verified on there you have to have proof like, pictures of the artists or posts on their social media.
Sure you can have stuff like the Grunge pedal that Kurt had on the board “for the lolz” and some information is not correct but usually it is not too bad
Every few years I buy an octave pedal and after a few months I sell it.
I really like it whem René is playing the bass videos. He's better than the other bassplayers
It is not a matter of "better". The other players on this channel are also brillant. René just combines technique, creativity and feeling in a wonderful way that is hard to compare. That makes him somehow outstanding.
Yeah that's complete opinion. Have you seen Lars? Frank? Others? They're all killer for different reasons.
Hey , thanks for your kind words. To me Frank, Ida & Lars are high level musicians .....hopefully I reach their level one day.....working on it every day! :) Its crazy to me to be on the same channel as they are, because when I started playing bass they were something like the holy grail to me. Thanks to Gregor for putting us all together here.
Rene that bass is bad ass
I like my Aguilar Octamizer.
Great review by the way.
No no...... there is a difference in the OC-2 Octaver and the OC-5 in the first example! It seemed fairly obvious to me. Oh well. It's just me but not a fan of the digitized octave up sound........ so for me the OC-2 still rules. ;)
Liked for the Tri-Tardis T-shirt.
Hoped you’d compare the meat box with the OC-5. Love them both. Great channel. Long time fan. 👍🏾🎸🎹
Meat box= blown speakers
What song is on the 4:20? Great pedal!
Suitable for 5 strings bass?
I just hope you've had a pillow to receive that fallem Octavider at the start of the video😂
I am very interested toget the boss, but how can I get ?
I'm from 🇪🇹 ethiopia please could you help me to get the boss
Sweetwater or Amazon or Reverb if no music stores in Ethiopia
Original OC2 as a bit more "grit" then the OC5 when playing that bass synth sound!...
Love the shirt. Good review too.
Holy Shaight'!! It sounds amazing!
OC-5 its made to people like me, that have no money to buy a MOOG. ;-)
That lowest option sounded like a Hammond !
Why is the OC 3 forgotten??
Love the tee-shirt! 👍👍👍
Strange to compare like this, with just one version of the oc2 (and which one?) and just one setting...
Is this a digital version? If yes, also in the vintage mode? How does it manage high output basses, because the OC-2 has real problems in that case. Does it have buffered or true-bypass? There is nothing to find on the homepage of boss.
Because some mention that there are sound difference betwen old and new: i have currently 3 OC-2´s. And while they sound close, there are real differences. But in my opinion there are 2 issues for that: they are really old units. So electronic parts changes their values over the years. Especially the capacitors. So, after a couple of decades they will sound different. And the second is, that in an analog world electronical parts always have tolerances, even when new. And they didn´t used the highest quality parts, so there are a little bit more tolerances. But in my ear the examples are more close than the most extreme ones of my OC-2´s.
5:27 Yeah, I heard "praising". Don't know what anyone else heard :D
#BraiseTheLord
Can someone explain in the simplest terms what this pedal is....doing. Distortion is obviously distortion and phaser, flanger, chorus are manipulation effects but what is this doing?
It’s puts upper and lower octave copies in your signal
im into that jazzmaster oooo
Einfach so in 2021 weiter machen... 100% reichen immer ;-)
Man!!!... and woman...that was a good funny unexpected moment.
Nice video mate! But I respectfully disagree. 1:23 I can certainly hear a difference. I'm afraid I still prefer the octave down sound of the OC-2. The OC-5 sounds a bit muddled and dark to me. OTOH, the other features offered are super cool. I've modded my OC-2 and it sounds really nice. Plus it is far more versatile that originally.
I think I am listening to voice of Galactus :-) nice demo dude
still don't know what he says after "my name is..."

Oh wow man. :D
I wan to know more about that J bass!
Custom Sandberg. it's really nice isn't it 👌
I had the Boss Octo-Plus and it was as good or better than the Octave.
Tone is in the fingers, except in Rene's case that tone comes from his neck movements. Word.
Haha, made my day! :)
Doing a shootout between Boss OC2 & OC5 - let me grab my MXR cables for that.😂I like ven he uses the wintage side!🤣
There is a distinct tonal difference between the two. Thank you for capturing the truth. I will be keeping my OC-2 (and Octamizer).
That’s not my conclusion
Great Video Thank you. I have one question though, what about latency? I use software octaver I always notice added latency which is a necessary evil. Are the hardware getting the same problem? I mean octavers in general not just the oc-5
Yes, no octaver works in real time, at least no pedal or plugin I’ve ever come across
Where is the blue bass in the thumbnail? What bass is that, I just fell in love with that color.
I think its the Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass in Dark night
Check de last 2 videos they used it
Review is coming next week!
I like your T-shirt!
Unpopular opinion: the only sub octave pedals worth a damn are the OC-2 and the DOD Meatbox
Unpopular and inaccurate 🙂
I must hafff it!
"it's not a Tumor!!!"
cool
Is there an octave pedal for bass that doesn’t sound like an organ?!
That’s indeed something incredibly hard to find. Definitely not this one here
I love that a lot of the demo bits are played above the 12th fret which totally defeats the entire purpose
Except that it doesn’t at all. Most bassists who use this pedal in jazz and funk applications doing exactly that. Play above the 12th fret with no or very low dry signal for a tone that’s more analog and synthy. It’s not really about generating the lowest possible track able notes
Hi Gregor and René. How low does this octaver track on bass reliably? Thanks! Edit: for the -1 octave setting I mean!
it tracks very well
@@basstheworldofficial The OC-3 could track down to the low A#, what Lydon is asking is for the lowest note the OC-5 would track
@@basstheworldofficial Thanks for the reply. Like @JosephGallagher mentioned I was hoping you would be able to mention the lowest note it tracks well. For example on the Aguilar Octamizer I have this is the low A.
Was that bass line from ghetto biys?
Who needs this when you have a keyboardist in your band?
A pedal is cheaper than a musician i believe
A keyboard player or keyboardist has a different interaction with the instrument and the overall dynamic of composition. By that same rationale you could therefore say who needs a keyboardist if the bass player is adept with pedals. What does other people think about that... Could always ask a Rush fan.
Yea, the tone is just not the same. The only way I can describe the difference is that the OC-5 sounds a little too "polite" vs the OC-2's more wild, characterful tone. It's subtle, but strangely disappointing. The octave up feature is awesome of course, and all bass players wish the original OC-2's second octave down would have been an octave up instead, since we basically don't have any use for sub notes that low.
1:12 they sound very different.
Che fighi
I need one 🔈
ElectroHarmonix *has left the chat*
Wonder why there is no Waza Craft OC-2 ??? Polyphonic mode..... MIAMMMmmm
OC-2 Vintage units are still around and not that expensive. Waza Craft pedals are mostly reissues of very expensive vintage pedals, that are out of reach for most players
@@basstheworldofficial You are absolutely right !!!
200 CAD, on E-Bay, but there is one in my area, MINT, WITH BOX for, 50 CAD !!!
When i receive my unemployment benefits, if it's still there, i'm gettin'it. Kind of feverish for a C4 too....... AAARRRRGGGHHHH CANT DECIDE, i'll draw tarot on this one, maybe get both !!!! Thank you for the wonderful videos and the humour you people put in them. À la prochaine,
and a Happy New Year
Can you get good 808 sounds from it?
Too brown. The compressor is a better colour. I'm thinking outfits 🌵
I very seldom leave comments because I really don't care for bass pedals. Bass should sound like Bass. But but that octave on this video can be really useful I really really really like the sound you get with it
You'd be surprised how many bass tracks you like have effects on them to a degree. Nearly half of pop and rock bass tracks have some level of distortion and compression
I like this shirt, where do I get it? 🥺
У меня все эти звуки есть в комбике.
