Listen, I understand people's excitement for the game updating and continuing to evolve into the version we currently have. But as someone who went ahead and got the platinum trophy for it, I can say with 100% honesty that they simply tricked you into thinking it's better. Yes, there's co-op now. Yes, you can build bases. Yes, there are new variations of planets and areas to explore. Yes, there's new missions that open up more to do... But it doesn't change the fact that you're still forced to explore planets with absolutely nothing interesting in them. Animals still do nothing but walk around and exist. Flora ends up eventually looking the same with slight variations. Temperatures on planets only serve to add annoyance and eat up resources rather than challenge the player. There are things to do in between this, but what's the point of doing it when your only real "reward" is the ability to see more of these barren, desolate planets? It's just No Man's Sky with extra steps. Instead of improving the actual gameplay loop and making your goal feel meaningful, they just slapped more things on top of the already bland main structure.
@@DeosPraetorian Putting sparkles on a dog turd technically makes it "better" but it doesn't change the fact that it's still a dog turd under all the cosmetics.
@@FreakinSweet1987 That's the same as asking why should anything in life matter if the end is just death? You build bases because you can and you want to , just as you play coop because.... , and watch animals because..... and eventually you get bored of it and you leave the game to play another one. The definitely has around 80(Maybe around 50 for some types of people) hours of play before it gets boring and that's more than enough.....
@Urayis wish l One major thing before we get into this: If you're going to call out the intelligence of someone else's decisions, you should try to learn proper English, spelling and punctuation. Because right now you ironically look like an uneducated idiot. As for the game, I bought it at launch for full price and 90% of the trophies came naturally before the patch by just playing and doing what the game expects of you. I'm not going to buy a game and just shelf it without giving it a fair shot. I enjoyed my time with it enough to see what else it had in store. The problem is that the gameplay loop eventually shows how shallow and lackluster it is, and by that time you've already sunk 30+ hours in and done almost everything there is to do.
You know you could have the exact same criticisms of Minecraft, as the core gameplay (minus the story aspect) is strikingly similar. I think it boils down to a base building adventure once you hit endgame, much the same way Minecraft does. In my opinion it comes down to what you enjoy about the experience, and I rather enjoy the space aesthetic a lot
I thought I knew the majority of this game, but I don't even know the beginning. You taught me new structures, aircrafts, and ruins in this video. Good job!
I actually liked the game when I first played it on Aug 11, 2016 (My P.O.V is bias. It was the first game I played on my new PS4, and it was my birthday gift)
I picked up NMS in early 2018 and it was playable, fun, for a while kept me entertained, I stopped playing in Q4 2018. I just restarted playing it Q2 2020 and its almost like a brand new game, I'm pleasantly surprised by the improvements, additions and changes made to the game, its a much more enjoyable and streamlined experience now!
yes, its a nice game, not for everyone tho, for most of the game you have to set your own goals, i like that freedom, you have the tools, and can go where you want, im just waiting for next update to get another friend on it and dive on all the content i havent played yet.
@el SM I’m female (lol). YES, It’s fantastic fun. I’m playing it in VR. If you decide to get it read about the game on the game website first. I made the mistake of just starting without a review of the game site and spend a lot of time trying to figure what to do and what the game is really about. I’m finally getting to challenging missions and fully understanding the gameplay. It’s a very intelligent game. If you like sci-fi, choose your own adventure stories/games and strategic games you’ll love this one. Totally worth it. I may even play in multiplayer soon.
You mentioned that they had made money because of which they were focused to improve it. If they didn't had that money, it'll be another tragedy. I absolutely agree! However, you should have also mentioned that Hello Games reputation among the people has also improved drastically. They have made sure bigger studios make considerable effort to improve a game if they had bad launches and not just leave them. Everyone make mistakes. We usually don't know the struggles. The only stories we are inspired by are the ones that go from bad, beaten down and ignored to greatness. I think Hello Games are happier that they had one of the worst launches and games in the history of an entertainment product. I'm pretty sure, the next game they make will be outstanding. P.S.: I bought the game at launch.
The video omits the fact that Hello games cut off all communication for months after launch, causing an uproar among gamers that rightfully thought the game was going to be abandoned in its catastrophic launch state.
Sean has told the reason in an interview some years ago. They went sient because he knew/thought that nobody would believe anything they said at that point and that actions matter more than words.
theJonzu it was probably a botched attempt at damage control. Gamers thought they just took the money and ran. A simple "we're working on it" would've been enough back then.
Must agree with both of them. It would've been great to hear from them; but at the time, it seemed like anything they said would have been garbage in the gaming communites' eyes.
Currently Cyberpunk 2077 is facing the same No mans sky 2016 effect , just that CB2077 was hyped as a GTA Killer and now CD PRojekt lost all their reputation and I guess even fixing the game wont help cause the hype is dead .
No Man’s Sky is something a lot of companies should take note cause they never give up and made their game better as time went one even better fixed it....
The similarities to cyberpunk 2077 are uncanny. I am really hoping cyber punk has a no mans sky comeback. The devs at cdpr neeed time. No mans sky revival didn't happen overnight
I have started to play this game a week ago an I discovered a planet no one else has since this game wast lunch , and now imagine how big the universe of No Man Sky is
Theres a game with a similar situation as this one right now. It's FNAF Security Breach and it came out rushed at launch. I do hope the devs would rescrap the concept and really fix it just this one did.

Dude this videos a few years behind every other channel. And HG still doesnt have the procedural generation promised, a proc.gen overhaul is the most requested feature 7 years later.
@@slyf0x183 Me, personally, I think they added a bunch of content to the game that lots of people asked for; THEN they added in more "exploration stuff". For better or worse, the Origins update really refreshed the 'exploration' aspect of the game. I am really enjoying it. I started playing on Jan 1st, 2019, so I have been playing since the 'Visions' update. Over 1500+ hours in, and I don't intent to quit.
Before u buy the game be reminded that it is well made and seen for people who have great decision making as well as work planning since the game has a story but once you do finish it the rest is just up to you, the rest that happens is all up to the player and his/her ability to have independent objectives, in short the fun of the game is all on u and how u play and see it
The problem with the game and others that failed, is the f*cking HYPE and MARKETING Too many expectations and promises and they deliver a s*it story and repetitive gameplay and lots of bugs
Check out internet historian's video over NMS, it explains a ton of why they had such a bad launch. The TLDR version is Sony wanted them to push an unfinished game, their office flooded and that Sean Murray is a dev, not a spokesman so he didn't really manage expectations
Game is great. Yeah, Hello Games did do the dirty - and whilst we must not forget the words they spoke its hard to ignore their actions. The game being worked on, without having to pay a cent for the 4 - 5 years of updates speaks volumes and while some will still expect more when they eventually drop support I do believe Sean and his team have nailed it. Can I recommend this to everyone? No. This isn't a niche' game but you have to enjoy a slower paced make your own adventure and way kinda game. Its not all shooty bang like COD either. Its perfect for those who still have an imagination and grewup building things with Lego whilst having their eye on the majesty and mystery of the greater universe. My girlfriend plays on her Ps4 pro and I play on my pc and because of Hello Games efforts we can play together and experience all the lunacy that is Proc gen (especially the creature generation at times).
Almost everyone of us lies, yet so few are making lies truth. It's hard to fix a lie, but even harder to fix something genuine. No Man's Sky is genuine.
Same. It's all up to CDPR, but I hold out hope that they'll do it some justice. If NMS can win Best Ongoing Game in 2020 with a smaller dev crew, Cyberpunk 2077 definitely has hope for redemption!
I bought day one, never deleted it. Have enjoyed free DLC after free DLC from Hellogames. Coming from Elite Dangerous, it was a refreshing take on space exploration. Way more color to the game, I had "legs" to walk on (ED now just teased their legs feature....) animals to discover and huge caverns to explore.
i bought the game bevor launch and i was disapointet and played it for aroudn 20 hours then i stopt, now i got back and i love it gald Hello Games stick with the game and delivert so mutch to it hope they still have some cool stuff left to expand the game even further
I'ma have to give it another try. I played it off and on for about 6 months when I got it at launch. It was very repetitive at that point. My roommate has been playing it recently tho and he likes it so, guess it's time I get back in there!
I must be one of the rare people who loved NMS back in 2016. It totally delivered what I wanted back then and now with the Origins update I still play it the same way I did back in 2016. I just explore the worlds, walk on the planets and film and photograph the environments. I never needed anymore gameplay to have fun in the game back in 2016 and i still dont need it. I just encountered the most incredible epic mountain world i´ve explored in NMS. Check it out here: nmsgalacticgeographic.wordpress.com/2020/10/15/no-mans-sky-origins-best-planets-the-best-mountain-world-ive-found-so-far/ Im so glad they brought back the original worlds scale with the Origins update as I totally hated the worlds after Next which had downgraded the terrain generation and made me not want to play the game no more because there was no interesting geographies to explore. But now with Origins the original 2016 is back and Im back to enjoying the game once more.
Great job on this video. It's a lot better than your normal garbage that you put out. I'll give you a like on this video. Please continue to make good videos.
This game is so satisfying... i like to casually explore new planets, build, and find my ultimate Forever Ship. Great game, and there is an update coming soon.
I love no mans sky because I got it free when it first came out because it was such shit I got a refund from hello games and they let me keep the game installed. So years later I came back to it and checked it out and it was 10000X better than before. I turned around and bought the game on steam using a steam key for only 5$ so I could update the version I had without trying to steal the updates offline and backdoor the files into the game and dude it was beyond worth it. I hit 500 hours of game play on steam in only about 3 months of playing it. I rank it up next to grand theft auto 5 in terms of the games broken and we all know it. It will never be as good as it was promised to be but it’s damn close and easily one of the best games to just log onto and blow a few hours fucking around killing and stealing and flying ect . It’s not a game you sit and play for 12 hours like LOL or WOW but it’s a game you’ll blow 5 hours on and not even feel like you wasted time
I’m reading the comments. Everyone is saying the updates have made it better. Can anyone inform me and what updates they did and what they included? Cause I shelved it and I want to play it again.
I got it for $8 and are some of the best 8 dollars I've spent on a game. By the time I got it-it was so fun. I still have to try the final add on. But I've already played so much that I got my fill.
Kudos to the developer for working to improve the game, but that's what you are SUPPOSED to do when you take people's money. It's amazing to see how everyone is acting like they received a gift.
Is it worth getting now? Did they add the customization that they said would be there at launch? I got curious to see how much it has improved after I just watched angry joes review when it first came out
Now I know the reason why No Man’s Sky rushed out the game I understand and gave it a second chance and was glad I did. I love it and it was well worth it.
People seriously need to stop viewing pre-release content as being "Promises" and start viewing it as "Here's what we'reworking on and hoping to put in the game, but we'll to wait till launch to see what make it". No developer actually "Promises" anything.
I understand why this happened. Sometimes it is best not to talk about vision (if you cannot give correct message). Respect for fixing the game after that mistake
I think those who complain may be "gamers" in the traditional sense, in other words expecting a game. For me it's a work of art, the creation of a nearly infinite virtual universe with its own set of rules. The gaming aspect is far far secondary to me, so I'm glad it's not much of a challenging game. My only complaint was essentially starting out with amnesia in a very hostile environment. I was angry at first at the tedium of getting going. Now NMS is almost all I think about.
You know what's actually very strange and still puzzling to me? The fact that they built so many assets for the E3 and press presentations before the launch but almost everything got scrapped or wasn't used in the final game release, not even to this day! Where's the sand planets, where are the cool creatures, the big space battles. Even if they are scripted I wouldn't mind! Add back the old assets in your updates and patches.
I doubt I'd play it much if it weren't for the VR support. I went from 2 hours of play over 2 years, to 120+ hours over a few months when VR support came out
For me, the only thing this game is missing is a true survival mode. Simply existing in this game doesn't feel meaningful, you just feel like your some sort of invincible robot that never has to eat, drink, or sleep. I'd love if there was some kind of food and water health bar system along with a sleep meter. Maybe even a water purification machine to craft, and in order to eat you had to search for food like killing animals for meat or scavenging planets for plants to eat. Things like that would give me reasons to exist in the No mans sky universe but right now I just feel like there's nothing else to do but craft random bullshit and do pointless quests that I don't care about
I bought this at launch was unimpressed and shelved it. Started playing it again two days ago. Now blown away.

I've had this game for months and I still play it every now and then and I always have something to do. I really love this game
Completely different game since day one. Best bang for your buck
It's still better
Good job!

Cant wait to see how No Man's Sky looks in like 5 years
Just look at it now lol

Great video. You carry a tone very similar to that of a news anchor carrying out an investigation on a company under fire lol. I'm subscribed.
I brought this game two weeks ago. So glad I found it late and missed all this fuss. Love it!
@@KJ-qq1wr I think we already settled the fact that bro and dude are gender neutral words lol
I have started to play this game a week ago an I discovered a planet no one else has since this game wast lunch , and now imagine how big the universe of No Man Sky is
My evening interview... at Hello Games
I arrived at the Hello Games office in the early evening, as the sun was approaching the horizon.
The door opened and Sean poked his expresive face to greet me
I *KZZT* Sean
Theres a game with a similar situation as this one right now. It's FNAF Security Breach and it came out rushed at launch. I do hope the devs would rescrap the concept and really fix it just this one did.
Someday they will make an update about building a colony to a planet of your choice and play like like sim city. I will buy it even it went up to $60.
proud to say I loved it since day 1.
It's been quite the journey to see it evolve over time. HG have done wonders for the game.
I am so used to seeing, The Rise and Fall of X.
I even read this as Rise and Fall of No Mans SKy i was like WHA?
then i read it again.
I love No mans sky will do. always.
Dude this videos a few years behind every other channel. And HG still doesnt have the procedural generation promised, a proc.gen overhaul is the most requested feature 7 years later.
What do you think about Origins?
@@slyf0x183 Me, personally, I think they added a bunch of content to the game that lots of people asked for; THEN they added in more "exploration stuff". For better or worse, the Origins update really refreshed the 'exploration' aspect of the game. I am really enjoying it.
I started playing on Jan 1st, 2019, so I have been playing since the 'Visions' update. Over 1500+ hours in, and I don't intent to quit.
Before u buy the game be reminded that it is well made and seen for people who have great decision making as well as work planning since the game has a story but once you do finish it the rest is just up to you, the rest that happens is all up to the player and his/her ability to have independent objectives, in short the fun of the game is all on u and how u play and see it
The problem with the game and others that failed, is the f*cking HYPE and MARKETING
Too many expectations and promises and they deliver a s*it story and repetitive gameplay and lots of bugs
And that they straight up lied about the content
Check out internet historian's video over NMS, it explains a ton of why they had such a bad launch. The TLDR version is Sony wanted them to push an unfinished game, their office flooded and that Sean Murray is a dev, not a spokesman so he didn't really manage expectations
A lot of media took what they did promise out of proportion though.
@@theintelligenceagency3638 So true. They are all programmers and artists. They don't have a PR department. They didn't know what to do.
I started nms recently and LOVE it, I hope they keep working on it though, it's still got lots of bugs
Tried the game.. and instantly amazed by how you can explore every planets..
Me watching this after Cyberpunk 2077's launch debacle.
Returning to this to get hope for cyberpunk 2077😭
Same. It's all up to CDPR, but I hold out hope that they'll do it some justice. If NMS can win Best Ongoing Game in 2020 with a smaller dev crew, Cyberpunk 2077 definitely has hope for redemption!
I agree I got it early was very confused never got off the ground and now I am recently playing it now and love it so much. They did a great job
Who is here after Cyberpunk 2077 became this games replacement for disappointment on a whole new level?
Now there is one thing the game is missing. Space walks. What would be more fun than decompressing your ship’s cockpit and float around in space?
i bought the game bevor launch and i was disapointet and played it for aroudn 20 hours then i stopt, now i got back and i love it gald Hello Games stick with the game and delivert so mutch to it hope they still have some cool stuff left to expand the game even further
Check it out here:
nmsgalacticgeographic.wordpress.com/2020/10/15/no-mans-sky-origins-best-planets-the-best-mountain-world-ive-found-so-far/
Im so glad they brought back the original worlds scale with the Origins update as I totally hated the worlds after Next which had downgraded the terrain generation and made me not want to play the game no more because there was no interesting geographies to explore. But now with Origins the original 2016 is back and Im back to enjoying the game once more.
I loved it before it launched, also!
Great job on this video. It's a lot better than your normal garbage that you put out. I'll give you a like on this video. Please continue to make good videos.
This game is so satisfying... i like to casually explore new planets, build, and find my ultimate Forever Ship. Great game, and there is an update coming soon.
Jeez you can just imagine what hello games will do on PS5. This game will be a flippin beast!
It’s not a game you sit and play for 12 hours like LOL or WOW but it’s a game you’ll blow 5 hours on and not even feel like you wasted time
This game just keeps rising...
I’m reading the comments. Everyone is saying the updates have made it better. Can anyone inform me and what updates they did and what they included? Cause I shelved it and I want to play it again.
Does no man's sky include mechs you can pilot? I would definitely love it if that happened
Added in the ExoMech update, yes!
I got it for $8 and are some of the best 8 dollars I've spent on a game. By the time I got it-it was so fun. I still have to try the final add on. But I've already played so much that I got my fill.
I bought it at launch and got fed up of the bugs so put it down for a while but it's one of those games I keep coming back too.

I picked it back up when this pandemic started and addicted ever since. Very fun to play when getting stoned.

This could might as well be talking about Cyberpunk 2077
Now I know the reason why No Man’s Sky rushed out the game I understand and gave it a second chance and was glad I did. I love it and it was well worth it.
People seriously need to stop viewing pre-release content as being "Promises" and start viewing it as "Here's what we'reworking on and hoping to put in the game, but we'll to wait till launch to see what make it". No developer actually "Promises" anything.
I have an idea for a mod for No Man's sky Alien vs. Predator mod
This winter I will explore the universe
You know what's actually very strange and still puzzling to me? The fact that they built so many assets for the E3 and press presentations before the launch but almost everything got scrapped or wasn't used in the final game release, not even to this day!
Where's the sand planets, where are the cool creatures, the big space battles. Even if they are scripted I wouldn't mind! Add back the old assets in your updates and patches.

@@Lord_of_Dread already spend 400 hours for few months, and the update still keep on giving
Things like that would give me reasons to exist in the No mans sky universe but right now I just feel like there's nothing else to do but craft random bullshit and do pointless quests that I don't care about
Me and my group of space pirate play every weekend soooooo I don’t know what this down fall is
