Decent interview overall but she could have done a bit more back research, particularly about his upbringing. Around 8:00 she begins to talk to Kevin about how he had "such a normal upbringing" - but the first chapter of his book is devoted to detailing how his upbringing was abnormal - his father would beat his children regularly in order to teach them to fight and toughen them up, to discipline them, and his neighborhood encouraged settling scores via street brawls, which were regularly observed by parents and friends. I am not sure if this qualifies as normal.

But what I do know is I hate bullies and always hope they receive the bad karma they deserve in return and in all honesty I have made mistakes but to repeatedly continue to make others suffer without a care I couldn't understand and no doubt he will get whatever he deserves coming right back at him and for that I can't say I have any sympathy for the Guy ✌️

10:13 - shows how dominant these guys were to just decide to kill someone for just something to do...obviously Jim Bulger was driving the gang to do it and another story that shows how dominant and bored they were is that in Kevin's book "Brutal" he says they had weapons stashed in safehouses that they would go and take apart and clean to make sure they were working when the time came to use them...I like Kevin Weeks he makes no excuses for what he did and seems honest and remorseful for what he did...

Emily Rooney, the lady giving this interview, should know a thing or two about how to interview someone seeing as how she was the station manager of WCVB tv channel 5 in Boston for a number of years and she is the daughter of the late, great Andy Rooney from 60 Minutes tv show on Sunday nights. I personally thought this interview was great. Kevin Weeks, tho he is an accomplice to many murders, I believe has told the truth about everything. I do think however, there are things that he knows that haven't come out and probably will go with him to the grave.

    • @gymnastix
      @gymnastix 8 років тому +1

+dublintoo I agree with you that Kevin Weeks probably still knows more than he has selectively chosen to divulge about crimes he committed or was witness to with James "Whitey" Bulger.
And you are also absolutely correct Emily Rooney is the daughter of the late, legendary CBS News commentator and journalist Andy Rooney, whose "A Few Minutes with Andy Rooney" segment closed the iconic "60 Minutes " program for 33 years (1978-2001).
As for the professional credentials of Emily Rooney, she was NOT the station manager of WCVB-TV (Channel 5) in Boston, but the news director (for three years, 1990-93), and before that the assistant news director 11 years (1979-90). Miss Rooney's tenure at WCVB coincided with that station's position as having the most-watched evening newscasts in the Boston viewing area most of that time, broadcasts helmed by the popular husband & wife anchor team of Chet Curtis & Natalie Jacobson (1976-2001). Miss Rooney then went on to be the executive producer of ABC News' "World News Tonight" with the late Peter Jennings for a year (1993) before becoming director of political coverage and special events at the Fox network in New York for three years, just before returning to Boston and her current stints at WGBH Radio and TV. Although retired as host of the nightly "Greater Boston" program, Miss Rooney still hosts the weekly "Beat the Press" program, as well her own daily show on WGBH Radio.

To be busted by a pizza man from an Americas Most Wanted episode and be beaten to death in your wheelchair in a prison cell. Even IF he'd been found, he was in his 80s, he couldve fought extradition for the next ten years or so..an if you have money you can buy a local judge in some banana republic to drag his feet. Whats he care about U.S. court orders when he's making maybe 8ooo a year?

Very disturbing all the posts here with "rat" and "snitch," as if divulging information about the brutal crimes of murderers is more dishonorable than the crimes themselves. To put this on a child-like schoolyard level--it's not "tattling" when the person(s) about whom one is telling is "in the wrong."
Also, I am disgusted with the romanticism (by Hollywood and people in general) of so-called "mobsters."T here is nothing funny or noble about the crimes committed by such lowlifes and the lives they lead. This tendency to romanticize organized crime reached its nadir with the television series "The Sopranos," a series I am happy to say I never watched, not even one episode. I had seen "The Godfather" films and Martin Scorsese's "Good Fellas," the latter which I think greatly contributed to this notion of mobsters being regarded "colorful" and their business "just another career choice."
I was curious to see the recently released film "Black Mass" because of its Boston connections, mainly to see the genuine locales shot in the film , as well how authentic were the performances of its lead actor, Johnny Depp, and supporting actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, in their portrayals of the notorious Bulger brothers (James"Whitey" and William "Billy," respectively) of South Boston. What I happily discovered is, for once, a film that doesn't wax comedic or romantic, but just shows the brutality of mobsters for what they really are. This is a break from the Francis Coppola and Martin Scorsese oeuvres of "mob cinema." I also read online a comparison between the actual history of "Whitey" Bulger's criminal activities and those events portrayed in the film "Black Mass," and found there has been little distortion of the facts. While certainly not a documentary, this film directed by Scott Cooper is basically an honest depiction of events as they happened, with a small amount of artistic license allowed. I think the fact the screenplay is based upon the book and reporting of two "Boston Globe" reporters, and not the anecdotes of or books by any of the subjects themselves lends more credibility to the project.
If I was trying to dissuade a child from a life of crime, I wouldn't show him "Good Fellas" or let him watch episodes of "The Sopranos." Rather, I would allow that child (when old enough to understand, of course) to watch "Black Mass," which shows just how barbaric and brutal are the lives of those in the world of organized crime. Hopefully, after one viewing of "Black Mass," a young person would not ever wish to see any more films about mobsters and organized crime, such would be their revulsion about the subject.

if you'd seen the sopranos you'd know they don't romantice the lifestyle in any way
Tony Soprano is a Sociopathic piece of shit with a very dysfunctional family and no real friends
      Still entertaining though
Goodfellas shows you several instances of brutal crimes (Joe Pecci charachter beats someone to dead with pistol and gets shot in the head) maybe not brutal enough for a you? how violent must a scene be before you deem it proper?
I'd advice you to finish Scorecese movies, and not stop watching halfway through. Most of the time it's all about how the easy road might seem glamorous but they turn out the be the dirtiest path and often if not allways lead to ruin and disaster.
Not Martin's fault most people are retards and can't see past the glamour. Then again Jon The Teflon Don was idolisted, just as Frank Costello and Al Capone were in real life.
So maybe Hollywood isn't responisble for romantiscing mobster?
