  • May 14, 2020 marks the 35th Anniversary of the last International Harvester tractor rolling off the production line at the FARMALL Works in Rock Island, IL. The last IH tractor was a 187 PTO HP 5488. This video shares International Harvester's history and salutes the 5 million plus tractors the company built. On November 26, 1984 Tenneco squired International Harvester's Agriculture Division and merged it with J.I. Case. Case International continued building Red Power tractors. Today Case IH is one of the largest farm equipment makers in the world. .
I share 10 of my favorite International tractor filming finds in this video, Watch for these IH tractors.

We owned 2 IH tractors in Serbia in the 90s and 00s. One was a 1066 in yellow color, and the other was a 1086 in white color. Both of them had double wheels in the back. I was just a little kid but I always wanted to sit in the cabin with my father in the 1086 since you could seat in the back in that tractor. A few times I even fell asleep in that tractor as a kid. I remember that they never wanted to start up on the first try so we always used K2 spray to start it up.

When I was in high school in the mid 70’s I worked for a guy that was an international dealer mechanic and went on his own. We worked on everything but mostly international tractors and trucks. I learned a lot about international and how to work on them. My favorite was probably the M and the 1066. My son has a nice 666 with a loader. Thanks for the video

Spent many hours on IH Farmalls. My uncle farmed with 560, 400, and an H. The 560 being the main workhorse of the farm. I can still hear the 560 as my uncle throttles and lowers the 4 bottom plow. Loved the sound of the 6cyl engine. Great memories!

My grandad had lots of older Farmall tractors but that was before I was born (Dec 1960) and when he passed away suddenly in Nov. that same year, my dad took over the farm at 24 years old. He eventually bought a 806, 966, 1086, 1466, 5088, 686 and a 7130. We still have the 966, 686 and 7130, but the 5088 caught fire in the field last year and burned up... a complete loss. My favorite was the 1466.

When I was 7 or 8 my grandfather would take me to the Hightstowm market. The IH tractor building in the front of the property had an 806 inside. I would jump on that tractor and dream. 20 years later I would drive that tractor in Yardville over many acres.
Favorite IH is anything with a V8 and those long nosed tractors with duals front and rear.

for the small dairy farms around me, the 1066 or 86 is still one of the go to machines that everyone is using for it's versatility, simplicity, durability, and cost. In that 100 cow operation it's tough to beat. And if there's extra room of course and 806 always seems to hang around. My all time favorite is the 4166. Has it's flaws, but a terrific 4wheel drive that can get in small steep fields where a larger machine cant get through the old stone walls and narrow access in fences and whatnot that seem to be literally everywhere here in north eastern N.Y. Maybe there is no great practical reason I love the 4166 and I'm just making excuses for it, but damn it's just such a sexy beast. Any plenty big enough for my spreading and tillage needs. Great video really enjoyed it. Thank you

He had about every one of your favorites. Don’t remember all the numbers, but my favorite was a Perkins powered two wheel drive. The mufflers were shot so I put two straight pipes on it, ma was it loud when she was pulling hard. She would blow smoke about 40 to 50 feet in the air on a windless day. What a thrill. It was always the bearing that would let go often messing up the crown wheel and pinion the clutch. They were are nice tractor to drive with plenty of power to the ground

Nice video. IH was very popular in our area in the '70s and '80s. Very fond memories of operating the 4166, 3788, 3588, 1456, 1466, 1468 (Of course it had the deluxe cab, belly mounted auxiliary fuel tank, chrome pipes and chrome heat shields lol), 1066, and all sorts of utility size tractors from the 606 to 574, 684.

@@bigtractorpower There weren't many 4166s in our area. The ones I saw all seemed to be cranked up to higher hp which meant they ran with straight pipe exhausts. It was a beast! Used it to pull a 32 foot Vibrashank cultivator and occasionally a 24 ft. disc. .Small by today's standards, but uncommon in those days.

Any cattleman that had a Hydro 3488 a Hydro 186 or Hydro 100 with a loader on it would say it was one of handiest tractors made of any brand. They also worked very well on a snowblower, mixer feeder wagon, and are great on big round balers. The 826 & 656 were ok as haying tractors, just very underpowered, none of them were any good for field work, but they served their purpose very well in other areas on the farm.

My favorite was the 1468. My dad bought a used one that was in good shape when I was in grade school. I spent a lot of time in the seat of that tractor. I started out on an 806 then graduated to a 1456 before we got the 1468. Dad also had a 560 LP and eventually bought a 1466 and a 4366. Wonderful memories of all of them.

Enjoyed the video. The tractor I grew up on was a IH 350 utility tractor. It ran on propane gas. No power steering and refueling was always an adventure. Put in my first crops with it. Did a lot of bush hogging with it. Kinda hated it when Dad sold that old tractor. Tractor we got after that was a lot bigger more power but it never was as reliable!

I spent many hours as a teenager on an International 560 Farmall (loved it), 660 wheatland, 1206 Farmall and W9 wheatland tractor. They all performed well and were good to drive. The 1206 even had a cab from the factory. It was the only diesel. The others were LP.
My grandfather had the first rubber-tired tractor in Texas County, OK, a Farmall MD-20 that was made in the 1930s, I think.

My favorite is the 856 XL made in Germany, which my father almost bought in 1984, but got wind of the financial hard times IH was in, and chose a different brand of tractor at the time. My father farmed in northern Jutland, Denmark. Here is a link to its specs: www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/002/3/0/2309-international-harvester-856xl.html

I was raised on a dairy farm, and in 1950, I was 4 yrs old and was steering a H Farmall between rows of haybales. There was a H and M Farmall on the farm for many years then a B414 was acquired and then finally a 706. The farm was then closed down and I went into public work. I now own a H Farmall and an IH 574 and have retired in the past few years from cutting and selling hay.

We have a ‘49 McCormick International W-6 Standard that we have had since 1961. Been a heck of a workhorse and a great tractor for doing mid sized jobs, has even pulled out stuck tractors due to its large frame. I’ve always wanted to have an IH 5488, as I’ve always had a soft spot for them and my cousin has one just down the road

I grew up with IH tractors. Spent a lot of time running an 826 and a 1086. I never got a chance to drive an 88 (50 series) but I remember being 10 years old when they first showed up at the dealer ship. It was the first time I saw an International with front wheel assist. It was the most beautiful thing I ever saw at the time. 5488 is still my favorite tractor to this day.
