I’ve no doubt in my mind that Billy field realises how absolutely gorgeous this song is and how it holds up ( the production etc) today. What a joy to play this on repeat after so many years. Thank you Mr Field.

31/08/2024. Been probably 42 years since I last heard this last night. Now I have woken up with this song in my head. I was looking for ‘Bad Habits’ as I really liked it when I was 10. Clicked on this, wow, I remember it now. Now as an older man with a few decades of history behind me Bad Habits has nothing on this song for me. It’s amazing how a song can make you feel as if you’re in the song itself & it was written about you.

When I was 16 or 17 I was in a band. I was the keyboard player. We were recording a demo in a studio in the city and I was trying to get my head around a Hammond organ. In walks a stranger and starts to show me what to do. It was Billy Fucking Fields! Can you believe it? Turns out he owned the studio. It was mesmerising to watch him play, and he made me look even worse than I was 😂 Seem to be a really nice guy and it’s something I’ll never forget it.

Getting music played in Australia was incredibly hard as a handful of promoters had the scene sewn up. Billy's parents had a lot of money and he used their wealth to get his music played on the radio. Without that we would never have heard of him. He sang a few great songs.

I think when you’re a kid in high school, you become interested in the pretty girl and show her affection, but at some point come to the realisation that she actually likes somebody else but doesn’t reciprocate the feelings towards you, but you hope one day out of the blue she come to the realisation who really liked her That the person that like to from the start, was there all the time waiting for their shot.

I was only three when this song came out, but this sucker remains an all-time classic that always manages to tug at the heartstrings. The standard radio version of the track that most 'old-timers' are familiar (the back-up of the orchestra) elevate it perfectly. Compare this to some modern tracks where the use of an orchestra is often overdone to the point of depreciating a song instead of lifting it.

As much as love these nostalgic dives I get so very tired of comments like “ who is listening in (insert day/ year) “. FFS there are plenty of artist today that are releasing great music- you have to be better and extend yourself, you will be rewarded.
If 56 and still get a rush when I hear great new music
