    Thank you for doing this video.. I nailed my mask clearing skill right after watching this.The crucial part was to exhale through the nose with a firm, steady exhalation as opposed to the blast exhale. I still get water up my nose and drink some whilst doing it, but did much better than I did before watching this!

    Nice simple, straight-forward example with emphasis on slow clearing. Too many SCUBA training videos on UA-cam give bad advice or don't explain key points well, but this one is simple, accurate and effective.

    it's midnight, I live in a land locked state, never even been scuba diving but yet here I am wtf

      You should check around; even land-locked states may have diving opportunities in lakes, rivers, quarries, etc. There are places in Washington and Texas where you can dive in abandoned missile silos. If it interests you (and the fact that you're here suggests that it might) there may be more ways to get involved than you realize.

      Chester Nimitz grew up in the center of Texas and became fleet admiral in the U.S navy. What's your excuse? LOL

      dom't worry,it s very simple,it doesn t require a lot of practice,it s only a mental difficulty.
      the thing that i found difficult was to find a neutral buoyancy!

      I had problem with this as well, practicing while in the shower both half filled and full filled mask and removing and replacing mask helped me get comfortable with it no problem

    Got my first scuba set up when I was 19 and had 0 experience at all. I was way to over confident my first time and jumped in Lake Ontario as soon as I got my tank (from the 1900s) filled. All went well until my cheap China goggles fogged up extremely bad, which induced panic. I remember not knowing which way was up or down and was too afraid to take my goggles off under water. After what felt like hours (5 minutes) I pretty much did exactly what was taught in this video and was able to swim up (way too fast of course).

    Was your eye vision blurry when you opened your eyes underwater and with water in the mask?

    I'm struggling so badly with this! Tried and tried saturday but just couldn't get it! Water keeps going back up my nose after I exhale through my nose to get the water out

      @divetrainingmagazine  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Patrick, it can be a difficult skill to master - definitely takes plenty of practice! Try returning the mask to your face while you are still exhaling through your nose. Let us know if you have any luck - cheers!

    Doesn't exhaling through the nose just fog up the mask again?

    • @masonwoods8534
      @masonwoods8534 8 років тому +1

      +WhatStef YES so WHY are all of these people posting videos about this

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 років тому +13

      "Doesn't exhaling through the nose just fog up the mask again"
      If you continuously exhaled through your nose it might, but one or two quick exhalations to force out the water isn't a problem.
      "WHY are all of these people posting videos about this"
      Because clearing water from a leaking mask is a required skill. Do you know of another way to do that?

    • @killianrosta9418
      @killianrosta9418 7 років тому +3

      If it is you havnt set up your mask properly. It should have an anti fog layer. If its worn off, you are supposed to spit into your mask and gently rub or move the spit allong all of the glass. then rinse with salt water. doing so will prevent foging. Even if it did fog it, a fogged goggle is better than a water filled goggle bothering your eyes and ruining your sight.

      + Killian Rosta "...a fogged goggle is better than a water filled goggle bothering your eyes and ruining your sight."
      Just to be clear, "goggles" only cover the eyes, and cannot be cleared underwater. "Masks" are what we are talking about here; they cover the eyes AND the nose, and thus allow the clearing technique. (There are also full-face masks that cover the eyes, nose, and mouth, but those are more-specialized.)

  • @falseking989

    Ok, so the air that you're blowing from your nose is pushing the water out of the mask. I feel like a complete idiot.
