As someone who had big, big problems doing this right and who finally did it yesterday, i still say "Thank you" for this. It sounded so simple and so rational to me when i was first told to just breath in through mouth and to breath out through nose. I asked myself "how can anyone not be able to do this?", but when my instructor told me just to try to breath in through my regulator and to breath out through nose in the water, i struggled that much that i quitted it for this hour of my scuba diving course and in the end it was even one of the reasons why i stopped the whole course. This was absolutely terrifying to me. Yesterday, years after i stopped and after many things in my life had changed to better - also my mental and physical condition - i had another try-out lesson and a very calm and friendly instructor who explained and showed it similar to you. After 3 three attempts i finally understood and could to it times and times again, even in deeper water... To anyone who is still scared of this excercise: I can feel you! But if someone like me can learn it, you can learn as well. Trust me.
I love this comment and so, so true! We can all do it, but some of us just need a bit more time, practice and the right instructor to make it happen. Don't give up! The fishes are waiting :) Marcel van den Berg p.s. if this video really helped that leaving a Super Thanks by clicking the Heart under the video will help a lot! Up to you ofc. 😉🙏
I've been struggling for a few Scuba sessions to get this skill down, you have explained it so clearly, this totally makes sense. Thank you for the "dry training tip". We need the muscle memory for this skill.
Aloha from Hawaii. I struggled with skill so much. First in the pool. My brain would stop thinking the second there would be water in the mask. "Take a deep breath through your nose", it said!! So my first open water dive, I panicked and my instructor just held my hand and I just swam around. She said "some people never get over their fear". Terrible thing to tell me. I came back and watched this video. Did this over and over in our own pool. Then today I went back for another attempt at certification. My instructor had YEARS of experience. He said "You are going to do this." on the boat, he walked me through the steps. Then he said we are going to do the full mask removal on the bottom of the ocean. I honestly thought I was going to die. Well, I want to tell you, watching this video, not giving up, practicing on my own, and an instructor who believed in me made it all possible. So thank you. We all love your videos and are grateful you have chosen to share your calm and kind way of teaching with the world online. Thank you! A certified open water diver.
Had my discover scuba course yesterday. First time letting the water in "half way" and I just let the whole thing fill up by accident. I thought well, nobody has ever died from getting water in their eyes. Not stressing is the biggest factor. I cleared them successfully. Loved the lesson and ill be back for more!
It helped me to close my eyes when I started to breathe out of my nose. And start blowing out my nose right before I look up (like he said no need to look down first, just straight ahead). Practicing breathing in through my mouth and our my nose with a snorkel and no mask helped too.
Great to hear! I hope your IDC went well and that you passed the IE? :) It would mean the world to me if you clicked on: Super Thanks under the video and donate a bit if this video really helped you 😌. This way I can keep investing in new scuba diving content 🙏 Have Great day! Marcel van den Berg
WE MUST, start blow by nose then you need to open the mask slowly, but no ones tells that. opening the mask first never works, instead, it will make more intake water inside the mask.
Can you explain this part? Blow out the nose before you let water in ? Is that what that person was saying? Thank you! I’m struggling w this section of the course
@@hepress2486 believe what he says is that you need to open your mask slowly while exhaling/ breathing out(NOT BEFORE), so that the exhaling force of air will push the water out of your mask through that opening. I think one must also close the mask during exhalation process itself to prevent any water inflow again. I might be wrong though, so feel free to correct me if I am.
@@ScubaDivingTips I am a Divemaster so I'll be sharing and using your tips 😁 thank you for taking the time to make these videos, they are really helpful 👌🏽
I have no problem with clearing water out of the mask in owd training and actual dive. The real pain in the ass was the mask removal and putting back on. Turns out I’ve been putting my mask wrong. I was taught to put the strap on first then pull down the mask. 😂 it’s really difficult to put it in place underwater and even more difficult to not get any water in my nose.
Actually when we push the top of the mask, and blow out by nose, does the mask open up? I saw in this video the mask actually not really open up, or underwater I always tried to open the mask 😂 idk if making sure the mask is open is necessary, but i saw lot of people pushing the mask and it doesnt look like it actually opens
When you touch the frame at the top your mask will slightly open at the bottom then you blow out of your nose, just slightly enough for the water to come out :) But you can also open the mask a bit from the bottom if that work better for you! :)
