For the ppl lauding this product. Just over a year ago they were 2 quid, 400g in weight and a higher percentage of meat. Eff off Iceland and the rest of the supermarket chains.
I see some of the prices and wonder if they hike them up so they can create an offer as these are £4 for 2 online. The shrinkflation though, that is everywhere.
@@danceswithsheep3058 I'm sick of being shafted. I notice the really cheap cider ( in Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's etc £2 a bottle ) alcoholics drink to kill themselves hasn't gone up a penny in 2 years. Funny that.
Charging £6 yesterday for a bag of 750g doner meat (aka mystery meat). £2.25 in Morrison for exactly the same product. Bearing in mind this was also in their ‘warehouse’ which is ‘allegedly’ much cheaper.
I used to buy the chicken jalfrezi from Iceland and thought it was a nice curry , however I was in Asda one day and thought I'd treat myself to one of their £4 Curry's , these are on another level. Meat content and quality is high and the sauce and ingredients are excellent , as close to a takeaway as I've ever tasted. They can sometimes be found on a 2 for £6 deal but in all honesty even at £4 , I think they are fantastic value for money , well worth a try if you enjoy a good curry !
Iceland prices have gone way off the scale, when they used to offer great value. Although some of the comments here tell us these particular meals are sometimes 2 for £4 which is good value.Notice the old "That's why Mums, go to Iceland" adverts have disappeared from view! No coincidence there, eh! Another great review, thank you, Gareth!
This is one of the reasons why a lot of iceland store are being shut down cause of the shrinkage in the product and also the price hikes its unbelievable tbh but these currys are amazingly flavoured another great review pal 👍
Aye, I've got about 8 in the freezer, still, they were a nicker each, 8338. Looks like i'm gonna be shocked next time i go in. Used to get my t/cakes from there too, but they're as dear as all the rest of 'em, now. Seems the way of it !
I recently bought a beef lasagna from Iceland d in the Range for I believe £1.79. I would.d be enough for 2 with maybe chips. It was very tasty. I could really taste the Italian herbs. It has only two layers of pasta, but very enjoyable. Not sure if you’ve reviewed it. If not perhaps give it a try. Love your videos! Trying to catch you live, but usually sit my grandchildren on Fridays. See you on the next one. 💕
This actually looked pretty good for a ready meal curry, makes a change too that there were plenty of chunky bits of chicken, usually there's too much sauce and a where's wally hunt for the chicken lol! Thanks gareth for another great review 👍🏻
The iceland takeaway curries are actually alright where supermarket curries are concerned i have a had a few in my time... they actually have a bit of heat as well unlike a lot of other supermarket ones... being of indian ethnicity myself i can tell you none of the supermarket curries come close to traditional food cooked by your mum :P (mine are ok but not as good as mums lol)... Actually the asda takeaway ones are half decent as well... ahh i got the end of the video where you say they arent the same anymore... i think you are probably right i havent had one in a long time and they defenitely carried more heat than most other supermarkets which is why i liked them
I got some in an emergency from Morrisons a while back - and my brother (that likes hot curries) couldn't eat it. I had his..... (just talking about the heat here - I bet your mum's food is excellent, just like my best mate at school mum's samosas)
I have had most of there curries in the past and I find the best way to deal with them is let them thaw out that can be at room temperature or in the fridge which takes longer . Then when it's thawed out heat it on the hob over a low/medium heat doing them in the microwave often makes the chicken taste rubbery and we don't want that. In this day and age you can't afford to put an oven on for 50 minutes unless your have won the postcode lottery or your a wealthy you tube presenter. I think there good with a few chips or some of that Farmfoods vegetable rice.
Great review as always! At the moment my favourite curries are the Indian Essence range from Heron. I particularly like their Chicken Vindaloo.{ I find it hotter and spicier than the Iceland version. }Heron offer a meal deal two curries and two starters for £5.00. I always buy two vindaloo's and two Bombay Potatoes. Looking forward to the next review!
I would like to say that Greggs Sausage-Rolls are the best tasting I have ever eaten, and they are also sold in Iceland supermarkets as frozen to be baked. The best way to bake them is to pre-heat your oven, run each and every Sausage-Roll under a stream of cold tap water for a second, shake off excess water before baking them on a tray covered in non-stick Aluminium foil for 12-15 minutes, once baked remove tray from oven and place the tray containing the Sausage-Rolls on the cooker with hobbs turned off, leave Sausage-Rolls to cool for at least 5 minutes before peeling them off the Aluminium foil on the tray. I then cut the edge of each Sausage-Roll along it's entire length, open the top pastry to reveal the strip of sausage meat, then smear a layer of Primula Jalapeño cheese onto the sausage meat, close the top pastry back before eating; sometimes instead of adding Primula Chilli Cheese, I add hot chilli sauce mixed with Mexican tomato salsa.

I've noticed with a lot of these chicken curries and 'take away' dishes, the chicken hasn't been marinated. It's almost like they make a sauce, and shove a load of chicken chunk in, which has a short time to soak up the sauce during the final home cooking process. Break the chunks in half, the chickens are still white as the driven snow. Incidentally, I have smaller versions of your plates that I've been using for years. Flat plates spill sauces and gravy, and break when dropped. I bought a 12 pack 9" Frisbee's off ebay and use them as plates, 😁don't laugh🤣 I just think outside the box! A good informed review. I agree, these are not great but if you are on a budget and it's accompanied by a decent naan or chips. 👍 it's better than others on offer.
Surprised the amount of chicken in there for £3, I've paid more for those types of meals with alot less chicken. The video made me smile as I dropped my homemade defrosted curry on the kitchen floor and broke the dish as well... then flooded the kitchen from a disconnected waste pipe from the dishwasher straight after😮😢 . Always liked these ,when coming home from the pub (madras & vindaloo) ones. But since the price hike, I've started to get the Heron ones, at £2. Just woof them with fajita wraps, like you would nans or chapattis.
Recently I tried Iceland chicken curry with noodles. Don’t really do curry but this was quite tasty. Not a lot of meat but the chicken was tasty. Curry was tasty and noodles was just so so. I only do Chinese curry sauce , usually but I’d buy the chicken curry again.
Last one i had of these the chicken was inedible. Put me right off. I rarely shop in Iceland now whereas was regular before. Their prices are shocking.
The curry looked quite nice! I don't know if you've tried it but uncle bens do something called one pan creations and the szechuan fried rice is absolutely delicious and is £1.50 at the moment.
Good to see you back in the kitchen, Gaz -- it feels like your natural location in this portion of your life. Embrace it! My microwave came from a dumpster at my apartment complex, so I have no manual. Have to figure out cooking times by trial and error. It still works. That curry looks more like soup or stew -- you would need a ton of rice to soak up all that liquid, and naan? No way! The chunks of chicken are bigger than you would see in a can of soup, though. To me, this is a stew, to be eaten in a bowl with crusty bread on the side.
A month's shopping for £35 🤯🤯 are you a hermit living off rice and noodles? Even my vegan mate spends that a week and he lives of pretty much combinations of chickpeas, lentils and carrots...
Hi Gareth, again where it is now 36°. I'd have said that should be with Rice and for two people. Any curry type of thing I prefer homemade because i like to know what's gone into it. If it had been between £2 and £2.50, it would have been better value.
I forgot to mention a mix of two favourite foods. A nice mild creamy fish curry. I don’t think I have ever seen a ready meal fish curry, but maybe someone has?
Its pronounced Doe P azza. It translates to Two Onion, or double onion, basically the onion puree you associate with the massala gravy, and slices or diced onion in the sauce as well. At least thats how I made it when I was cheffing :-)
Gareth you really need to go to Home Bargains and try the curry sauce range made by Indi Grand. You do have to put your own meat or veg as they are sauces not meals but I am blown away by how authentic they are and at 99p per pouch they are simply amazing. I'd love to know your thoughts on them, all the best mate, Bri

Agree 100% regarding the Vindaloo Gareth, when it came out it was lovely, but then it sadly became the 'improved recipe' which was nowhere near as good. I haven't bought it since. In fact, when I now see anything with improved or new recipe, I steer clear because they ruin them all.
Yes its a shame that some 'Improved Versions' can be the new cheap made version they hope nobody will notice. Some in the food supplier business don't understand that there is a such a thing as the sense of taste out there in the wild.
I got them plates and i'll tell you... they are very useful especially for sunday roasts where you can ram as much food and gravy onto it without it spilling all over the place
OK Gareth, Dopiaza means double onions, the first lot of onions are fried to brown and caramelise them before the chicken and other ingredients are added. Just before the end of the cooking process, more onions are added to give the dish more flavour and crunch. Before the current food crisis, these Iceland curries were £1.69 each, or two for £3.00. They were good value the, unfortunately they aren't value for money now.
They look great, you can always pimp em up a bit for 3 quid! you get loads of meat in there. I always used to order a dopiaza because I liked the fried onions they put on top and in the local gaff you could ask them to kick it up a notch for you. Cheers
I sometimes buy the chicken and fried rice in the same tub. Have you ever noticed ready meal chicken from a lot of the big supermarkets is like Russian Roulette. Some ones have a firm almost chewy rubbery texture which I find really off-putting. In one ready meal it some bits might be ok other bits not. You don't know till you eat it. I googled and when chicken is like that it's probably been overcooked. But I think these manufacturers need to do better.
Who doesn’t like the odd Ruby Murray and rice? Naan bread and some extras as well. You can’t really go wrong. My favourite at the moment is a nice Korma. It’s not that hot and spicy. I love the coconut taste. Lamb curries are really nice too. Hot curry? I think the hottest curry I’ve ever eaten was cooked up on Bisley Ranges in a tent we shared with a Gurkha shooting team. I swear it would have stripped paint off a car. They used to have it for breakfast, dinner and tea. It would cook all day. It started off pretty mild in the morning😅. Got a bit hotter by lunch 🥵🥵. And killer by early evening 🤬🤬. The whole chickens were tossed into it, including giblets. By lunchtime all the meat had come off of the bone and was so tender. I don’t understand buying ready meal curries though. If, as a lot of people do, you have a slow cooker? Just add fresh ingredients and let it cook while your at work , or whatever. Come home to a nice tasty, tender meal. Keep up the good work. I think you can guess that I love your channel 👍🏻👍🏻.
Decent looking meal bald foodie guy- sufficient chicken for me 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Yes,il have mushroom rice, bhaji and a piece of Nan (any naan, but I usually go for garlic, occasionally keema) and side salad, mint sauce lol My first Indian dish in a restaurant, many moons ago was either a dopiaza or a shashlick lol
Hi gaz I hope you are well ! I suppose with a bit of rice or chips and a nann bread to mop up the sauce you could say it’s a good meal for one at some point if you could review some other foods for people like me who go fishing cheers mate all the best
There were 9 of these curry types available when I looked, just got the Madras & Biriani to try now, think the first will be to hot for me, like some of the previous I tried, didn’t really notice the pepper ratings on them to tell you how hot they may be 😂😂 still it’s a learning curve ❤
These are great and taste much better cooked in the oven, the last ten minutes or so with all the plastic off, makes the chicken non slimy, the prawn bhuna one is great and the chicken biryani one is good also
Hi Gaz. Never been a huge fan of curries... I've got to be "in the mood" (as the late great Glen Miller put it) But, all the same another great video. Richard, Store Assistant, Aldi, Bangor, North Wales. Keep up the great work, and lets see some more "Meals on a budget" reviews, like the £1.99 chicken video you did recently.
Thanks for a great vid. “Paying for convenience” is always going to look poor value. We just have to be savvy when buying, as a previous answer said, always look for the offers.
There was a point bout 12 months ago where i couldnt stand these curries because they were really watery, much better now though 🤤 although i miss the carolina reaper 😢
the shape of that container looks like Morrison's new frozen range , where u get a meal and a side (# often rice ) for a deal price , eg , a masala + pilau rice
Have you tried the curry deal from Heron? They do 2 curries and 2 sides for £5, including a really hot vindaloo (unlike the weak ones you normally get from the supermarket)
I called in to my local Food Warehouse in Wigan earlier today as a change from the usual place I go, pretty decent selection of foods like that, I got some good stuff at prices much like anywhere else. That looks like a decent meat content for £3, and tasty too.👍
Like with other Icelands lines these curries have a wide choice of different flavours & they are all decent, but we like 2 of them particularly. We noticed that in smaller iceland, that quite a few of this range can be missing ( so worth bearing that in mind ) We really like our favourites theres nothing like a good potent hot spicy curry on those cold winter days. I think this line has been around a very long time & has evolved. We never forgave Iceland for being - (IMHO) - THE FIRST to put a horsemeat curry out well before that scandal broke. Everything was normal with beef curry then one day there was horsemeat in it and i don't make mistakes about stuff like that. So we've keep our eye on Iceland like, and they've been mad price gouging perverts lately therefore we've kept BOTH eyes on em. However we find these delicious tbh & hope those nu sprog of original iceland management just leave these alone.

@philipmason9537 ... It's processed formed chicken that's used in frozen ready meals not actual breast pieces.
@@martinwebb1681 At that price I wouldn’t expect anything else but I’ll still try it.
@@philipmason9537 ... Good luck with that. 🙂
If you can get to a Lidl, they do a Delux range, frozen steak & Old peculiar ale 2 pies. Delicious! Around £3 ish for 2.
Last one i had of these the chicken was inedible. Put me right off. I rarely shop in Iceland now whereas was regular before. Their prices are shocking.
Agreed. It’s like fake meat
It's processed meat that's why, formed meat is used in frozen ready meals.
i love the heat rateing on these the vindaloos are as hot as the madras and dopiaz makes it hard to choose which curry ya want day b4 work lol
I buy these they are delicious 😋 and good for the money 👍If you've got an Iceland bonus card I think they are cheaper than £3
The curry looked quite nice!
I don't know if you've tried it but uncle bens do something called one pan creations and the szechuan fried rice is absolutely delicious and is £1.50 at the moment.
P.s it has a three chilli rating and seems to be low calorie 😊
Good to see you back in the kitchen, Gaz -- it feels like your natural location in this portion of your life. Embrace it!
My microwave came from a dumpster at my apartment complex, so I have no manual. Have to figure out cooking times by trial and error. It still works.
That curry looks more like soup or stew -- you would need a ton of rice to soak up all that liquid, and naan? No way! The chunks of chicken are bigger than you would see in a can of soup, though. To me, this is a stew, to be eaten in a bowl with crusty bread on the side.
Oh, and the price seems high. Get a can of soup. Cheaper and shelf stable.
Popcorn: two minutes in a brown paper bag. The internet says three minutes, but that gives you burned corn.
Many moons ago at my local Indian Takeaway their Dopiaza had proper pieces of onion with green peppers and sliced mushrooms and it was Beautiful 😋
Cheers Betty
My local used to be like that too. Not overly hot but full of flavour from the fried chunks of onion and peppers.
Looked very tasty enjoyed watching
Best wishes Gareth
Glad you enjoyed it Kizzy
I have these with Aldi micro rice for 42p, £2.50 a meal can't go wrong.
I chose to go to Aldi yesterday and was surprised a month's shop was 35.50 and I compared to Iceland and saved money. Iceland are becoming robbers
a months shop was 35 quid lol what do you live on 35p packs of noodles
A month's shopping for £35 🤯🤯 are you a hermit living off rice and noodles? Even my vegan mate spends that a week and he lives of pretty much combinations of chickpeas, lentils and carrots...
Hi Gareth, again where it is now 36°. I'd have said that should be with Rice and for two people. Any curry type of thing I prefer homemade because i like to know what's gone into it. If it had been between £2 and £2.50, it would have been better value.
I might try that looks delicious
Hope you enjoy
I forgot to mention a mix of two favourite foods. A nice mild creamy fish curry. I don’t think I have ever seen a ready meal fish curry, but maybe someone has?
Cheers Gerry
I absolutely adore the chicken vindaloo from Iceland and have one a week
I always get the naan bread from Morrisons tho 👍
It's a regular of mine, love it too, and the hot tikka
Love your videos gaz :) looked beautiful
Thanks so much
I've never had a microwave meal with chicken where the chicken doesn't come out as tough as old boots.
That's because its formed processed chicken, and not actual chicken pieces.
Like i've said in the past if its a little watery add some crispy onions and it adds to the flavour aswell as thickening it up .....!!!!!!
Its pronounced Doe P azza. It translates to Two Onion, or double onion, basically the onion puree you associate with the massala gravy, and slices or diced onion in the sauce as well. At least thats how I made it when I was cheffing :-)
Cheers pal
Iceland used to do an Atomic Vindaloo, it was awesome.
Cheers Bri will do.
It's all Formed Chicken in ready meals...Processed is the correct description 😮 Great Review 😋🙏
And, 5121 ? We're all processed. The state has ya well logged !! ( Orwell, 1946. )
@@blackbob3358 just wait until the Mealworms are in all processed substitute Meat 😮 laws already passed in EU and now happening UK. We will eat the bugs 🐛
@epcode5121 ... Yes, I wouldn't touch any of those meals with a bargepole, full of muck. 🤮
@@martinwebb1681 agree, they are not good for our health. I'm 60 and cook the old way. Mind I enjoy watching these food tasting channels 😃
Sounds very nice Gareth I always go for a mild one from david Peterborough 😅
Cheers David
Never heard of this meal before, interesting lol food for thought 😁😁
Great review Gaz..yes slippery chicken 🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
Nice one
Looking good… I sometimes add some chilli powder to heat it up sometimes😃👍
Iceland has been cutting the size of their packs. Vegetables 1kg now 700g.
Agree 100% regarding the Vindaloo Gareth, when it came out it was lovely, but then it sadly became the 'improved recipe' which was nowhere near as good. I haven't bought it since. In fact, when I now see anything with improved or new recipe, I steer clear because they ruin them all.
Yes thought they had done something to it cheers
Yes its a shame that some 'Improved Versions' can be the new cheap made version they hope nobody will notice. Some in the food supplier business don't understand that there is a such a thing as the sense of taste out there in the wild.
Improved recipe = them cutting their costs
Fair play It looks good and tasty for the price also It would be enough for 2 people if had with rice n chips.
Just looked on Iceland site it's £2.00 where I live so it's defiantly a bargain.
I got them plates and i'll tell you... they are very useful especially for sunday roasts where you can ram as much food and gravy onto it without it spilling all over the place
Yes very good arnt they
OK Gareth, Dopiaza means double onions, the first lot of onions are fried to brown and caramelise them before the chicken and other ingredients are added. Just before the end of the cooking process, more onions are added to give the dish more flavour and crunch. Before the current food crisis, these Iceland curries were £1.69 each, or two for £3.00. They were good value the, unfortunately they aren't value for money now.
Thanks for the info!
I like a nice curry Gareth this is one to look out for 👍😎
They look great, you can always pimp em up a bit for 3 quid! you get loads of meat in there. I always used to order a dopiaza because I liked the fried onions they put on top and in the local gaff you could ask them to kick it up a notch for you. Cheers
Cheers
Would you cook it in the Ninga Gaz? Re oven cook option🤔
I got the same size plates pretty much the same from wilko 👍🏻.. you can fit a good Sunday roast on them 😉
You should try the chicken madras my favourite i buy to stock up freezer taste very authentic
Cheers Wendy
I sometimes buy the chicken and fried rice in the same tub. Have you ever noticed ready meal chicken from a lot of the big supermarkets is like Russian Roulette. Some ones have a firm almost chewy rubbery texture which I find really off-putting. In one ready meal it some bits might be ok other bits not. You don't know till you eat it. I googled and when chicken is like that it's probably been overcooked. But I think these manufacturers need to do better.
Hi Gareth looks good mate . Bargain price . Cheers mate .
As my old mum used to say, "serves two ...if one goes without " :)
Haha yes
Cheers Gerry, you're very kind pal thank you. 😊
Decent looking meal bald foodie guy- sufficient chicken for me 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yes,il have mushroom rice, bhaji and a piece of Nan (any naan, but I usually go for garlic, occasionally keema) and side salad, mint sauce lol
My first Indian dish in a restaurant, many moons ago was either a dopiaza or a shashlick lol
Cheers Glenda
Decent amount of chicken in there, imagine it would be nice with a few chips to dip in the sauce 👍
Hi gaz I hope you are well ! I suppose with a bit of rice or chips and a nann bread to mop up the sauce you could say it’s a good meal for one at some point if you could review some other foods for people like me who go fishing cheers mate all the best
Yes needed it
There were 9 of these curry types available when I looked, just got the Madras & Biriani to try now, think the first will be to hot for me, like some of the previous I tried, didn’t really notice the pepper ratings on them to tell you how hot they may be 😂😂 still it’s a learning curve ❤
water sauce is why its good to have gravy thickner in the cupboard :)
These are great and taste much better cooked in the oven, the last ten minutes or so with all the plastic off, makes the chicken non slimy, the prawn bhuna one is great and the chicken biryani one is good also
Yes will have to try that one cheers
Hi Gaz.
Never been a huge fan of curries... I've got to be "in the mood" (as the late great Glen Miller put it)
But, all the same another great video.
Richard, Store Assistant, Aldi, Bangor, North Wales.
Keep up the great work, and lets see some more "Meals on a budget" reviews, like the £1.99 chicken video you did recently.
You're welcome 😊
Ok if you are having a long day at work and good as a back up with other bits thanks for the vid godbless all
No problem 👍
If i get a watery curry like that i usually mix half a teaspoon of cornstarch with water and mix it in 5 mins before end of cooking Gazza.
Great idea
Yeah I bought that about three weeks ago and I enjoyed it 😊😊👍👍
Good to hear!
The portions are getting smaller
Looked a yummy curry.👍 Did you have a good time at Beamish, and Alnwick castle.
Yes we all had a great time. 👍 thank you 😊
Thanks for a great vid. “Paying for convenience” is always going to look poor value. We just have to be savvy when buying, as a previous answer said, always look for the offers.
You're welcome
There was a point bout 12 months ago where i couldnt stand these curries because they were really watery, much better now though 🤤 although i miss the carolina reaper 😢
I love the vibdaloo in this range .
And butter chicken
It's 2 for £4 here.
I really like the range
Cheers Sophie x
the shape of that container looks like Morrison's new frozen range , where u get a meal and a side (# often rice ) for a deal price , eg , a masala + pilau rice
I've noticed sauces seem to be more Watery in processed meals . Have a great weekend you and family
Thank you! You too!
Have you tried the curry deal from Heron? They do 2 curries and 2 sides for £5, including a really hot vindaloo (unlike the weak ones you normally get from the supermarket)
Yes I've reviewed them
Yes, the vindaloo blew my flippin' socks off !! Great quality and value but I won't go hotter than madras in future😂
I bought the Aldi vindaloo after your review but not enough chicken but takeaways doing the same.
I called in to my local Food Warehouse in Wigan earlier today as a change from the usual place I go, pretty decent selection of foods like that, I got some good stuff at prices much like anywhere else. That looks like a decent meat content for £3, and tasty too.👍
Thanks for sharing!
You could buy an entire chicken for that price.
@@pheart2381 Not a cooked one with sauce and vegetables.
Does anyone know the cylinder head bolt torque of a 1984 1 litre Austin Metro?
