I remember when long distance calls were handled like this. They were expensive and everyone took a quick minute or 2 to say hello then the conversation got right to the point then goodbye. It was such a treat to hear from far away loved ones. ❤️

Aunt Pauline should have apologized to Cathy. She said horrible things about her father. Anyone would have lashed out after that. But elders thought they could do whatever they wanted back then.
Creator/writer Sidney Sheldon had an "Aunt Pauline". He often worked the names of his relatives and family into his scripts for Patty, and "I DREAM OF JEANNIE".
According to Sidney Sheldon, this episode was featured as the "premiere" episode on the West Coast, while "The French Teacher" was seen as "episode one" in the East.
@19:33..."Where will she go?" "Mexico City l suppose". Ironically, in real life, Mexico City is where she died. Proves that truth is stranger than fiction.
@MrCJ-qz9dl... Ilka Chase made a rare television sitcom appearance as Aunt Pauline on this episode of The Patty Duke Show. She played her part well that show she was a gifted actress.
God, that woman is irritating. Cathy should not have apologized. She was constantly insulting her, and then has the audacity to get upset when she gives it back to her. Not to mention forcing herself on the home. Martin should have put his foot down early on. Also, when Cathy is angry, her voice sounds more like Patty's. More high pitched.
CATHY, DON'T APOLOGIZE TO THAT AWFUL WOMAN PAULINE. SHE GOT EXACTLY WHAT SHE DESERVED: TO GO AWAY. A GUEST IS A GUEST. THOSE WHO TAKE OVER SOMEONE'S HOME IS A PEST
Aunt Pauline is very much like Agnes Moorehead's Endora character. Considering William Asher was producer of both shows and Patty Duke came first, I think there is a strong possibility that he saw something in Pauline that could be used as Samantha's mum.
@Glenn Wheatcroft Endora from Bewitched is waaaay more nicer than Aunt Pauline will ever will be. Endora will team up with Darren when necessary. Although Darren is a jerk. Not because of him being a mortal. Because of his treatment of Samantha and the children. Aunt Pauline is a HYPOCRITE and a witch of every direction. What a bitch.
@Glenn Wheatcroft. Endora on Bewitched wasn't as nearly as close as Aunt Pauline. Pauline was just a stubbord jackass. Endora didn't like Darrin amd I don't blame her. Darrin was a jerk for the way her treated Samantha and Tabitha.
Apologize for being herself? That would be a hollow apology. She is what she is. The father should have had the spine to set order in his house before she got very far with her bossiness.
@@Ragnar06 No, Pauline the Pathetic should apologize for coming to the family's house and telling them what to do. She is a pain in the ass. REAL PAIN.
@Dominic's Animated Reviews I totally agree with you. That awful witch Pauline is awful, crude and a witch beyond imagination. Cathy, you had every right to say what you had to say. That woman had no right to attack anyone.
agreed. unfortunately, those were different times. I love classic tv and movies as much as the next person, but sometimes the outdated viewpoints etc. are hard to stomach.
Cathy, that Aunt Paulie got what she deserves. That woman got the heart of a stubborn old mule and she needed a good slap in the face with words. Cathy, don't need to apologize to her. A guest is a guest. Those who overstay their welcome is a pest.

Ilka Chase as Endora .. I mean Aunt Pauline . In those old 1930s movies Chase seemed to tower over the other female co stars , but it seemed that Jean Byron was taller then she . I always thought Chase sounded similar to Rosalind Russell . One thing Ms . Byron and Ms. Chase had was being tall actresses' at that time they did not often play the romantic leads or ingénues .
The whole Patty Duke show was stupid. Even "Anna" -Patty- Duke didn't like the full story theme of this sitcom. This particular episode concerning Aunt Pauline stunk The way she told Cathy about her father was disgusting.
I love the classics and this show is my #1, i actually met Patty in 2011 she was such a lovely person, i miss her but i know she's in a better place smiling down on all of us:) thanks for the uploads.
Eloise Ockert , that opening dance scene still drives my harmons crazy just the way it did when I was a young boy in the 60’s!!!! Always loved Patty Duke!!!
THIS helps me escape from this vulgar driven disgusting society !!! FABULOUS ESCAPISM!!
Helmer rodriguez....Gilligan's Island and the Flying Nun are also great forms of escapism for me.

@@MrCJ-qz9dl So true!
This is one of the best "Obnoxious House Guest" episodes in a sitcom I've ever seen lol

I like that the mom was sarcastic and surly instead of sickening sweet.
One of the absolute best episodes. Great comedy and drama.. Agnes is stunning and sharp, 💋

Season one was the best,
they were young and raw but had it together from the start....rip Miss Patty Duke
According to Sidney Sheldon, this episode was featured as the "premiere" episode on the West Coast, while "The French Teacher" was seen as "episode one" in the East.
I lived in Illinois, and we got "The French Teacher" episode first.

That’s a great catch! Aunt Pauline (Ilka Chase) was 72 when she died. Back in those days, people didn’t live very long.

and she said "Dogs can give you hydrophobia"...that's the fear of water, a psychological disorder--not a contagious disease.
Hydrophobia is another name for rabies. That is the term they used in Old Yeller.
Dogs CAN give you hydrophobia if they have rabies and bite you.
Overstaying is not the issue. Forcing your ways on your hosts is out of order and isn't becoming of rational adult guests.
